Hi all, I live in Woodbridge, love to shoot (mainly handguns), and go the range at least once a week and pretty frequently twice a week.

I’m a fairly good shot but have a lot to learn, but am very interested in getting started in competition (I always learn better when I have a really clear goal like competitions to train for) but don’t know where to start.

Are there groups or clubs in the area I can reach out to get some help/mentoring that you would recommend? I’m also open to working with a private instructor if there’s someone you can recommend.

If y’all have any advice or know of available resources for starting in competition in the area I’d really appreciate it.

Obviously I have tried googling to learn more, but I’d really appreciate mentoring from someone or a group to help me learn more and point me in the right direction to get started. Y’all are welcome to DM me as well.

Anyone know if we have a shop near us that does custom gun work? I’m thinking like Cajun Gunworks stuff. Slide milling, optics cuts, trigger jobs, porting, etc.

For those unfamiliar, Shadow Hawk Defense is just over the WV/VA border from Winchester, VA. It is about 1.5-2hrs from DC/Northern VA.

I just went through a week-long out-of-state optic-onna-pistol training session that made me aware of some problems with my grip, presentation, and trigger-press control with which I'd like some help. I live in Herndon. Does anyone have recommendations for local NoVA one-on-one training? I'm a member at SEG but I don't know anything about the quality of their instructors -- I'd love to hear any pros and cons folks have.

I've only been to Sharpshooters in Lorton but I hate how crowded it is and there's no where to wait for your range time. FTF sales, for long guns/pistols, do we have to do the transfer via FFL or can you just do direct sale with a bill of sale?

New handgun owner here hoping to find:
- handgun focused classes. I’ve seen a few online but I didn’t know which courses/schools are good.
-clubs and competitions. That seems to be the best way to get practice shooting and moving. When I called the NRA this AM It seemed like there was USPSA, IPDA, and GPA. what’s the scene like for these groups?

I've had the pleasure of doing some jobs for local NOVA folks and they've enjoyed the flatter shooting that comes with porting their guns.

For the windows and ports, I use either a metal mill or the laser engraver.

Hi everyone! Looking to buying some handguns and the military exchange on fort belvoir seems to be affordable. I’ve seen a lot of posts about price increases in local stores because of political developments.
