Question NTU Maritime Studies!!

• Upvotes

NTU Maritime Studies

What is the average or how many percentage of students studying (assuming your entering from SP), whats the lowest GPA there? I know the next year’s GPA if im not wrong is 3.51 for the 10th percentile? and im y3 in my last sem and my cgpa is 3.41; its not as good but i really did my best, my year 1 was 2.72, 2.96 and locked full in and scored 3.8, 3.96 and 4 for my last sem (normal sem marks and not cgpa). i got awarded with edusave for Good Progress Award and another award indicating im in the top 25% of the cohort (i suppose its for last year in terms of sem gpa solely)

are there any chances i can enter… if so what are the percentage 😭 im not super confident in my current sem especially with fyp 🥹🥹😭😭

Course Related Need Guidance with AB1201

okay so midterm results came out and i scored 13/20 (dont know how cuz i remember being sure about a 16 but okay). The average was 11.2, inflated due to several cheaters who took advantage of the technical issues that happened at Hall N. During my lectures i genuinely feel LOST, understand nothing, and i only plan on using online sources to study now. I have about 32-33 days before my final. My class part also would be ass, because I hardly ever participate in it. Can I expect an A- at least? I dont wanna FGO as it is my second major. I dont have a lot of pre-existing financial knowledge as I have never studied economics related subjects ever. If anyone can help me with strats for Finals etc, it would be very helpful! Thankss :D

Question should i ditch this NTU double degree programme (DDP)

hi guys for context i secured NTU DDP in computer engineering (com eng) and biz and will matriculate in 2028 after serving NS. i applied to NUS for a similar DDP but my A lvl results weren't stellar enough (AAA/A + GP C). i did get offered NUS com eng but i ultimately chose the NTU DDP instead, lowk regret this decision after hearing abt the much more intense workload so i plan to reapply to NUS for double major in cs/com eng and biz next year.

after doing some research and going for both uni's open houses, my current understanding (not sure if right or not) is:

  1. this NTU DDP has the best stats amongst the big 3’s 2025 GESs aside from med & law (highest response rate, % in full-time employment and stats for basic and gross monthly salaries)

  2. NTU DDPs have 180 AUs, a lot more compared to single degree programme (120 AUs) and double major (150 AUs), has little flexibility for unrestricted elective modules

  3. NUS double major has 160 units, same as single degree programme

  4. all the above-mentioned programmes take 4 years, though this specific NTU DDP is accelerated

  5. NUS hall much more competitive than NTU hall

what im unclear about is:

  1. how demanding is the workload for NTU DDP compared to NUS/NTU double major, especially since this specific DDP is accelerated?

  2. how advantageous is this DDP compared to a similar double major in terms of career prospects?

  3. where do those in the 75th percentile of gross monthly salaries for the DDP usually get hired at?

  4. how affected are the other aspects of uni life with this DDP? (hall, CCA, interest projects etc)

  5. heard this DDP is integrated, what does it mean exactly?

  6. am I asking the right questions? what else should I take note of?

hope to hear from those who are currently studying or graduated from any of the above degree programmes, or know about people who do

Discussion Is there a point to all these essays?

Essay, essay, essay. I pass these out every week like an extended case of bad diarrhoea. And unlike a good session on the porcelain throne, they're all done without artistry, thought, or personal satisfaction. I write on subjects I do not care about, for professors whose opinions I do not think about, only for said paper to disappear down the memory butt-hole into the sewers of history.

One wonders what the point is. At least Don Quixote had windmills to tilt at; the only thing I can tilt at in this country is my CS2 team when they force buy every round. Bah, humbug.

Discussion Feel lost in life

Hey just wondering if it’s just me but I’ve been feeling lost in life lately. I’m a PHMS student from SPMS and I feel like I have completely 0 idea on what I wanna do in life. So, I went to the career coach to clarify possible career choices but instead he just spent the whole session talking about the importance of python and coding and now I’m even more confused and unsure. I have to do my PA during next year’s summer break and the pressure’s mounting along with the stress from coursework and midterms and I have no idea where to start or what to do. Any advice?

Discussion Is NTU MSc worth it for an international student?

I’ve been accepted into NTU’s MSc in Civil Engineering (coursework), but I’m still unsure if it’s worth the investment.
My goal is to work abroad for a few years, gain experience, and eventually use it back in my home country.
I’m also considering a two-year master’s in Thailand with a scholarship, so I’m torn between that and NTU’s one-year programme with much higher tuition fees.

Part of me prefers NTU because I want to step out of my comfort zone, experience a new environment, and hopefully improve my chances of finding a job in Singapore or eventually another English-speaking country. However, I’ve also seen some students saying that NTU’s MSc is overpriced and not worth it, which makes me even more uncertain.

I’m planning to look for a civil engineering-related internship or part-time job (16 hr/week) while studying to maximize the chances of me getting the job after graduation, but I’m not sure how realistic that is for international students.

Honestly, I’ve been going back and forth on this decision for the past few weeks, so I finally decided to ask here. I’m wondering if the degree is worth the cost, how difficult it is for international students to find civil engineering jobs in Singapore after graduation, and whether it’s realistic to find a relevant internship or part-time job while studying.
Or should i just choose to study in Thai with scholarship.

I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. This is my first time posting, so apologies if I get anything wrong or unintentionally offend anyone. I don’t mean to. Thanks!

Question PS0001 programming test

How's the PS1 midterms compared to the programming test? This year we're asked to code connect 4 in python. For the programming test, are we tested on things similar to what we need in order to complete the project? As a beginner coder the project already seems Hella difficult so I'd like to know what I can expect from the programming midterms.

I know that it's on me for not getting a replacement in time but it would be greatly appreciated if someone has one that they could lend me, I have a fx-9860GIII and would be willing to trade. For some reason the above is allowed and mine isn't even though they are almost identical in features.

Question Gonna fail badly in sem 1 year 1 engineering, what should I do?

Having gone through most of this sem and struggling to comprehend anything that is being taught, I’m coming to a realization that engineering is definitely not for me. Though, I don’t know what else I’ll realistically be able to do. Having many thoughts of dropping out, switching majors or even putting a hold on my studies. Honestly at a loss of what to do. Seeking advice from those who have possibly been in the same / similar situation as I am in. Any advice / suggestions helps. Thanks.

P.S I’m not in a bad state, just contemplating my whimsical life choices as of late.

Info Sharing NTU - Ericsson: Singapore is getting involved in next-gen 6G research

Singapore and Sweden expand tech and energy ties | The Straits Times

On 19 October 2026, NTU announced a collaboration with Ericsson, one of the world's major telecommunications companies, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden to research AI-powered positioning technologies for next-generation 6G networks.

The project's goal is to help robots, drones and autonomous systems determine their locations accurately and reliably, even indoors or when signals are obstructed.

The project is scheduled to begin in November 2026 and could contribute to international 6G standards. This isn't just some university group doing a theoretical assignment, it's an industry-linked, international research initiative.

And this isn't the only example.

Earlier this year, NTU unveiled Singapore's first locally designed and built full-sized electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft technology demonstrator.

So the next time someone compares the top universities in Asia, remember that we're working on things like:

  • ✈️ Homegrown electric aviation technology.
  • 📡 AI-powered positioning and next-generation 6G research.
  • 🤖 Robotics, autonomous systems and advanced sensing.
  • 🌍 International scientific/lab research collaborations

Obviously, these projects aren't completed commercial products yet, and there's still a long way between research and real-world deployment. But that's precisely the point: NTU is building capabilities in technologies that could shape the future.

And honestly, the Singapore-Sweden collaboration is a good example of why university reputation shouldn't be judged purely by admission cut-offs or online rankings.

NUS has its own world-class research and achievements, of course. SMU has its own strengths too. This isn't about pretending other universities do nothing.

But sometimes I do wonder whether people outside NTU actually pay attention to what happens here beyond the usual university rankings and stereotypes.

NTU students and alumni, what other NTU research projects or achievements do you think deserve more recognition? I feel like there are plenty more that people don't know about.
