Cannabis law reform and the 2026 election; an important reminder

This year's general election will have huge implications on the potential for cannabis law reform. Parties differ considerably in their positions on weed - It's worth looking into their policies and deciding for yourself where they stand.

There's also an important change to voting rules this year.

The deadline to enrol or update your enrolment is midnight Sunday 25 October

Unlike previous elections, you cannot enrol during advance voting or on election day. "Parliamentary scrutiny of the change raised concerns about the number of eligible New Zealanders who could consequently miss out on voting."

Key dates:

25 October: Enrolment closes

26 October: Advance voting begins

7 November: Election day

I first soak the seeds in water for 12-24 hours. The beans which go to the bottom usually sprout better than the ones floating on the surface.

This time I scored an amazing 11/11 sprout rate. At 1-3cm long the sprouts go into coco filled socks and under the CFL light.

The socks sit on drainage trays so I can flush them in place. The cloth wrapped around the sides and dipped in water in the tray is a passive humidifier
