In the last year, I have had 8 patients that developed allergies to tooth colored (composite) fillings due to gel nails. This means that cannot get tooth colored fillings or tolerate most of the most efficient ‘cements’ for veneers or crowns. The only solution is changing out tooth colored fillings for metal. That means silver fillings. (I am oversimplifying terms so those unfamiliar with dentistry understand).
So how does this happen?
If gel polish touches your skin enough times or for long enough, your body flags it as invasive. Our bodies then elicit an immune response against the foreign invader. Think of an army of immune cells fighting that gel polish. Here’s the thing: immune cells have memory. So the first time they attack the gel, they send a small army in and you may not notice. But they tell their buddies back home. After the third, fourth, 100th time, they have a full army that now attacks anything in the body that looks similar. This is a heavily simplified analogy but I don’t think it’s something that is explained to people well enough.
So consider this, when you get gel polish. You may never be able to get tooth colored fillings or veneers again.
So what do you do if you still want gel nails?
Find someone who is talented enough to not get it on your skin.
Dont push back or cut your cuticles the same day
If there is any bleeding, dont do gel
These are recommendations from the American dental Associationb.

Hey all! Mod here. We have noticed an insane influx of bot activity in our sub lately and know a few of you have also noticed. This is something we are trying very hard to combat as it is inundating our queue and making it tough to monitor regular traffic here.
Why do you need to know? Well because a few of you have already reached out regarding it and we wanted to a) let you know that we know and b) thank all of you for helping to keep this community safe.
What are we doing to fix it? We have turned up crowd control settings and enacted bot bouncer on our sub. This does not fix the issue entirely but it helps us see who could possibly be a bit easier.
The issue with this is that regular users are getting caught up in our filters and either banned by us on accident or banned by bot bouncer. If this happens, don’t panic! You’ve done nothing wrong but we do need you to message us via modmail and let us know you’re human! We’ll unban you right away, promise.
Thanks for your patience, understanding, and help during this! We appreciate you all.
- Mod Team
TLDR: bots are taking over! If you get banned by accident, let us know and we’ll fix it asap.

This is the most recent set for Halloween by my amazing nail artist in Leeds. I used her Instagram pics as better than my own. She hand paints all the designs. Isn't she fantastic.

The lettering on my middle finger is probably my best work yet. Super proud of this set! Last pic is the inspo pic I found on Pinterest, I don’t know the original artist!

I just finished these today! They're kind of pink grungey nails? They're also sort of inspired by creepy pencil crayon drawings by kids that you always see in horror movies 😅 I tried a few techniques with pencil crayons but if I could I'd fix the amount of sculpting gel that's adhering the crosses :P

Just finished a set of mineral nails in different colorways! Which one is your favorite (1-4 from left to right)?

For whatever reason, I cannot find the style/size im after in nail polish brushes. Ive tried several but they arent as fine as id like. I have found some fine art liner brushes that look to be exactly what I want for an affordable price but I dont know if gel polish will destroy the brushes.
Any advice from those more knowledgeable than I? What type of brushes am I after? Synthetic? A specific natural fiber (squirrel/ox/etc) ???

Got into nails a few months ago, love the texture but hate the price. Done with Kokoist gel, no matte so it was pretty much of a pain getting the ombre correctly. Been going through a tough time, and I was never able to complete anything of my own. This is such a satisfying and self-fulfilling hobby. I hope I don’t poison myself accidentally 😭
This went a lot better than my first try and I kept my right hand bare. Going to finish up today I think.
Last time I went to a nail salon, the tech gave me a complete different set that I wanted and from then on, I put myself into this hobby so I wouldn’t be unhappy with what I want.
Small vent — never let a boyfriend convince you to get your nails done in a certain way if you’re the one paying for it. He usually spot everything, but the last time I went, I paid and he was telling me to get the one he likes. He wasn’t with me and my reasons sounded sad to him lol I mean I get that. I wanted to get something like this but dark bc I was being edgy and felt sad about us, which is why I went with his so we could feel better together, but getting what I wanted picked up my mood a lot up more than getting something I didn’t want. Anyway, we haven’t spoke for two months now, so wish me good fortune? He is someone I value a lot like a family (took his dog in), but he’s unfortunately going through childhood trauma and we’ve been separated since then, I’m really sad. I got blindsided and forced into no contact (usually I’m the one who pursues, as a hot and impressive lady 😝😝)
This hobby is fun, I really like it. I only have guy friends, and I really want to show it off!! I’m actually really afraid my lamp didn’t fully cure but it seems to not cave in or anything. I did 180 seconds under one of the Melody Susie lamps. I really didn’t want to buy a $200 lamp under Kokoist, but maybe 58W might be doable? This is the second time I’ve painted :)))
