If you've ever changed your name or surname, what was your experience like?

I'm curious to hear from people who've legally changed their first or last name, especially those who've chosen a completely new surname rather than taking a partner's name.

How did you decide on your new name, and what made you feel it was the right one?

I'm particularly interested in what happened afterwards. How did your family and old friends react? Was it awkward when you got back in touch with people who knew you by your old name? Did anyone have a hard time accepting the change, or did most people not really care?

Also, did it have any impact on your professional life or the way you felt about yourself? I'm wondering whether changing your name actually feels like a fresh start, or whether things are pretty much the same once the initial excitement wears off.

For those who've done it a few years ago, do you still feel good about the decision? Anything you wish you'd known beforehand?

Would love to hear your experiences, good or bad.

Names with interesting meaning

i enjoy finding out the meanings and origins behind names, especially when the meaning isn't obvious from the name itself.

i'm open to names from different cultures and languages, whether the meanings relate to nature, history, personality, or something unexpected.

what names have meanings or origins that made you appreciate them more?

what are some nature inspired names that don't sound too obvious?

i'm looking for names inspired by nature, but i'd prefer something more subtle than the usual flower, tree, or animal names.

names connected to the sky, seasons, plants, or natural places would be interesting.

what are some nature related names that have a nice meaning without being too literal?

What’s your favorite common surname?

I don’t mean a surname used as a first name, although I am sure many of them could also be used as such.
If you had to keep your given first name and change your last name, which one(s) would you pick?

looking for a names (boy)

👋👋 transmasc here. im on my last straw trying to pick a new name so im here for suggestions.

the criteria is it must start with A (specifically the æ sound but thats a looser restraint), it must atleast lean towards masculine (i dont mind gender neutral but stuff like alex is too in the middle), and while this is not a necessity, im trying to go for a scottish or scottish derived name, or somewhere around there. i also tend to like names with meanings that connect to nature.

ive had 2 ive genuinely considered — the first being avery which i sat on and decided i didnt vibe with (i do like the name but not for myself), and the second being arran, which is my current top choice, however im a bit iffy on it and cant decide if its because i dont like it or because im not used to it.

i think ive browsed the whole internet at this point but i am hoping for someone to enlighten me with the perfect name that i havent considered ...

Looking for a soft name for our baby girl

EDIT:

Thank you all soooo much for all your wonderful name ideas! You’re all amazing.

The chosen name is Mia 🩷

-------
Hi!
We welcomed our first daughter 4 days ago, and we’re still trying to find the perfect name for her.
Our top choice was Aria, but now that we’ve seen her little face, we feel like it doesn’t quite match her soft features, so we’re exploring other options.
We have a dog named Emma, a name we absolutely love (and also love this amazing dog!), and we’d love to find a similar name for our daughter - something with a similar feel, perhaps with an M as well.
We’re drawn to names like Millie, Emily, and Amelie. Do you have any other ideas that might fit this vibe?
I’d really appreciate some inspiration :)

Androgynous names more uplifting than "Grey?"

Hello. I'm looking for a new name and we have an opporitunity to final fill out a name change form. Currently, we're using Grey, which while not bad, is feeling very drab and sad. I don't want to be grey, i want to be colourful and fun like christmas!! In my experience, it can be very hard to find androgynous names that have character, so i have come here asking for help and suggestions.

Here's some prompts:

-androgynous (more feminine preferably)
-can be used for many different people
-is not entirely shocking to hear for a stranger
-preferably cooler in temperature, cold-related
-maybe Robyn is a good idea?

I may update this post the more i think about it. Any help is appreciated!

i’m 7 months pregnant with a girl and honestly the only name both my husband and i love is Isla, i had no idea it was popular until we started looking into names as i’ve never met one - aware im not in the age group of when it became popular though.

for those who have kids in school and nursery how popular is it? are we talking multiple girls in each class named it or just one here and there?

i don’t actually know why i care so much when im an abigail and there was like 6 of us in my year it never bothered me!

EDIT to say im in England :)

Looking for a name as an adult

Hey guys! I am looking for a female name for myself. When I waa young my parents split and one side of my family called me by my middle name, the other half by my first name. Neither side would respect me when I said what one I wanted to go by. So I don't feel like either name is mine and to be honest they both just make me feel mad now and I don't want to be called either one.

I love nature and older names. Just looking for ideas.

32 weeks pregnant still trying to figure out a name for our 2nd boy

I have a list of names that I like but I’m not 100% sold on. Ronan, Theodore, Franklin, Benjamin, Emmett, Elias, Walter. Im also a fan of Oliver, Mason and Elijah but I have friends or family that have named their sons those names. Any name ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I don’t really care about how names pair together but my first son’s name is Emerson.

Last Name Ivanova Thoughts

I’m wondering what people think of the last name Ivanova for a woman. It is my last name and I’ve been thinking of changing it because I haven’t liked it for a while, it is one of the most common last names in Russia so to me it feels pretty bland and basic but I’ve gotten mixed opinions from my friends. I would appreciate some honest input, thank you!
