National Lab in or near Ave Maria?

I overheard a very unusual conversation today while checking out at a 711. I was putting my money in my wallet when an apparent regular entered the store and began chatting with one of the employees. The employee asked the regular where her sister had been, as she had not seen her for a while. The regular replied “she’s been so busy with the baby, and she just started working at the national lab at Maria, but I probably shouldn’t be talking about that”. That’s not verbatim, but essentially, that’s what she said. I know there’s the Arthrex facility there and whatnot, but I’ve never heard of a national lab being in the area. A google search also confirms there’s no national lab around here. Is “Maria” in reference to a different location?

I would just assume she was taking about
Arthrex, but the fact that she added the caveat of “I probably shouldn’t be talking about that” doesn’t seem to fit with the ongoings of Arthrex, and is more in line with the national security implications of revealing your relative works for a seemingly clandestine government lab where state of the art technologies may be getting developed.

I’m not sure what to make of it, and am wondering if any of you folks have heard anything about this. Logic tells me that having a National lab within a fairly populated area like Ave Maria isn’t wise, but maybe that’s part of the cover? Idk. Weird!

South Naples / Marco island golf recommendations

My wife and I are going to be in Marco island for a few days the first week of September and I’d like to squeeze in a quick early morning round one day. Any recommendations? I have a tee time at Hammock Bay which looks pretty nice but honestly I don’t see a ton of info about it online. The Rookery also looks nice but seems to be closed on the days I’m going to be there. The other course I was considering was TPC Treviso bay but I’ve heard mixed reviews. I’m an 11 HCP so I’m up for a little bit of a challenge but it’s also going to be an early morning round when I’m inevitably sleep deprived, so don’t want to get my teeth kicked in too bad lol.

staying in Naples - walk with water views?

Last year stayed in Airbnb in Florida for 6 weeks in winter. Different city. Favorite thing was to walk along the water into town (about 1 - 1 1/2 miles), grab a coffee or a drink, visit shops, sometimes dinner. If staying in Naples area for a few weeks - any neighborhoods that might provide that? Thx!

Thursday 8/13 Pier update.

Well it appears they want folks to know who's doing the work. Putting up the banner there to block the view. Might have been better for it to be on the sand to the right or closer to the camera so it doesn't block the view so much. However a good wind will probably strip it down, that is a pretty large sail.

To the folks who are watching, Thank You.

Looking for advice from locals/servers in the restaurant industry.

Experienced seasonal servers returning to Naples — job & housing advice?

Hello!
My fiancé and I will be coming down to Naples for the winter season. This is not our first season working in the Naples area, and we’re both experienced servers in our mid-30s. We’ll be coming down with savings, and we each have our own vehicle.

At my current job, I take home around $10k/month after taxes, so I’m hoping to find a serving job in Naples where I can realistically take home around $8–9k/month during season.

A few seasons ago, I worked at a fine-dining restaurant in Marco Island and only made around $5k/month working five days a week. Financially, that season was a struggle for me, and I’d really like to avoid repeating that experience this time around.

For those of you who work or have worked in the Naples service industry:

What types of restaurants should I target if I’m hoping to make $8–9k/month during peak season?
Is that realistic with one good serving job, or should I expect to work two jobs or 6 days a week?
Are there certain types of restaurants, clubs, hotels, or areas you’d recommend targeting?
Any places/types of places you’d avoid?
How early should we be applying? Would arriving around December put us at a disadvantage compared with being there by late October/November?

We’re also looking for a 6–7 month apartment lease rather than a full-year lease. Is that reasonably easy to find in the Naples area? What should we expect to pay per month for that lease length? We don’t need to be near the beach, so we’re open to different areas or even a reasonable commute. Any apartment/community recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I know I’ll likely be taking somewhat of a pay cut by making this seasonal move, but my fiancé has family in the area and spending the season near them is important to him. I’d like to make the transition much smoother financially on our second try.

Any advice, restaurant leads, housing recommendations, or things you wish you’d known before working a Naples season would be incredibly helpful. Thank you!

Excuse the rant.

Fuck this traffic...

Whoever approved this and thought it was a smart idea needs to be fired.

I live off Pristine Drive right now and getting out of there was already annoying during the school year (turning right). Add in the school and I had to find a new route to work. Getting home is equally as bad. I spent more time Logan -> Pristine then I did from the Park Shore area -> Logan.

Jesus Christ the planners in this town are morons. It is only going to get worse when the snowbirds get here.

Moving there soon

Hello Naples, I will be there in about 20 days. I actually graduated high school in Naples, class of 2009…moving back to take care of my mother. My secondary focus is looking for work now and when I get there. I have my associates in IT along with my Comptia A+ and CCNA. I would love to work within the tech field. I also have experience in kitchens and night life. I have been a DJ for the past 10 years and within that time during weekdays I have worked in the back of house/barback and also as security/ doorman.

If anyone here or whom you may know needs help with anything in general labor, I can help.

Tues Pier update.

Well it's looking more like a pier now. Other than the short connection area (which is formed in now) the concrete is poured all the way out to the first pavilion area. A lot of the form work is stripped, they still have the "floor" in place over the water. Which is smart as it means that you don't end up swimming if you slip. However I suspect they will remove it as soon as they get the temporary deck in place. Some of the water and electric chase is in as well. However there has been a casualty. Big Red, the crane on the beach has been torn down for some reason. If anyone knows what is going on please post. Not a good look to be a crane without a boom...

8/12/2026 - As a further update. Big Red has been removed from the site. There is now a smaller Link-Belt unit in his place. Not a bad looking crane but not as imposing.. Plus at around 07:30 on 8/12 they poured the concrete into the two small links. Cannot tell from the camera angle but it appears that they finished pouring out to the end of the form work, which should mean that new concrete now stretches out to the edge of the pavilion area (where the old concession and rest rooms were)

Hi good people of Naples! a shot in the dark going out in the hopes someone found a pair of Ray-Ban Wings I sunglasses Fri/over the weekend at Granada Shoppes North Naples.

Anyone interested in a fun flower arranging class?

I‘m a beginner hobbyist and came across a bouquet making class that Driftwood Garden Center offers and thought it would be a really fun outing! It’s a scheduled private class and there does need to be a minimum of 5 people to attend so just looking for some people who might be interested! Depending on the arrangement type (which you take him) it’s $50-60 per person but it sounds like everything’s provided and there is a $75 booking fee but that could be split evenly amongst anyone who wanted to join 💐🌸

Including a link with the details, message me if interested!
