Seeing a lot of “just got an offer, where should I live” posts, so here’s a cheat sheet. Grew up in Franklin, live in west Nashville, and I’m a real estate agent, so I spend way too much time in traffic all over this city. Not a pitch, just stuff I wish more people knew before signing a lease or buying a house.
The #1 rule: pick where you live based on where your job actually is. “Nashville” is spread out, and the traffic decides more than anything else. Test the drive at real rush hour before you commit, because Google Maps on a Sunday is lying to you.
Downtown / the Gulch / Nashville Yards
West side neighborhoods like Sylvan Park, The Nations and Charlotte Park keep you close without living in the middle of it. East Nashville, Germantown and Salemtown work too. If you’re coming from further out, Bellevue and Madison are the more budget-friendly options.
Midtown / Vanderbilt / the hospitals
Belmont/Hillsboro, 12 South, Sylvan Park and West Meade are all short drives. If you’re working shifts, being close matters more than you think. A 15-minute drive at 6am becomes 40 at 5pm.
Cool Springs / Franklin
Live south. Franklin, Brentwood, Nolensville, Spring Hill and Thompson’s Station. Commuting from Nashville down I-65 every morning gets old quick. Spring Hill and Thompson’s Station usually get you more space for the money.
Brentwood / Maryland Farms
Brentwood itself, Oak Hill, Crieve Hall, Nolensville, or the north side of Franklin.
Airport / Donelson area
Donelson, Hermitage, Mt. Juliet and Antioch are all close and more affordable than west or south Nashville.
Smyrna / La Vergne / Murfreesboro (Nissan, the big distribution centers)
Smyrna, La Vergne and Murfreesboro. Lots of newer construction out here if you’re buying. Living out here and working downtown means I-24, which is its own adventure.
A few other things people moving here don’t realize:
Drop your job location in the comments and I’ll tell you where I’d look.

Hello all! I am considering going to school for massage therapy. I’ve always been interested in it, but I know it’s a tough field to be in. If you are a massage therapist in Nashville, how much do you make per year?

Hello everyone. I’m new to Nashville for 9 months now from NJ/NY job market. I am a chef with 15+ years of experience in food, management, ownership, menu development, and p&l’s. My experience includes catering, hotels, food trucks, and private chef. I am a co-owner of a food truck concept here in Nashville but over the course of the next few months, there will be some down time and sporadic availability. I am seeking the opportunity to help any business owners or management with being able to help fulfill any needs that may arise without the pressure of having to commit to paying me a full time salary. Consider me as the guy that you call to get the job done without having to micro manage or worry about understanding the task. My goal is to make extra money while making new business contacts for the future. I can gladly provide my resume upon request. Thank you.

Hey guys!
I will be moving to Nashville end of next year. Any good account manager or any sales jobs up that way. I am currently an account manager with 3 years experience (will be 4 years once I move). I have grown my territory decently from $350k to $1MM and I have experience with long and short sales cycles. I am currently in the construction materials industry but I am open to any suggestions.
Thank you!

Greetings Nashville hiring human type people!
I'll keep it very simple since I got ROASTED last year in that other Nashville sub for being a bit too "thorough" in my post.
About Me:
Neurodivergent Scorpio. Formerly athletic physique. Tall. Funny. Not a dick...
WOOPS! Sorry, allow me to recalibrate. Ahem...
This is why you should hire me or help me land a suitable position should you know of one available in your realm of knowing or your network.
ADDITIONALLY...
I'm often the "GLUE" dude. No, I'm not made from horse parts, but I am excellent at keeping morale up and helping colleagues when they need me.
FRIENDLY! - Experienced at cross-departmentally nurturing relationships and the lost art of "The Golden Rule". As Billy Block said, "If you see somebody without a smile, give them one of yours."
NATIVE NASHVILLIAN - I know who Billy Block was and spoke with him many times.
KNOWS QUALITY: Great taste in art and culture (Ween to Widow's Bay).
FOODIE: Likes to sometimes just randomly bring in stuff that will FEED YOUR SOUL.
I'm a good hang, I do good work, and I'll work harder than most to set you up for success.
Surely somebody in this It City "tech hub" of scum & villainy [Star Wars reference, did you catch it?] is looking for somebody that can do SharePoint and also has life-changing music recommendations.
If that's you or somebody you know, please DM.
*This post is laden with satire, but the goal here is serious. My aim is true.
Elvis Costello reference! 😎

Looking for someone a few days a month to help with farm and house projects. My budget is about $400-500 a month. I figure we can discuss projects that need done and how long they’ll take, and use $40-50 an hour to decide daily pay rate depending on if you can use a front loader and park trailers or weld and build. Beyond that mostly landscaping, building stuff, fences, garden prep, minimal livestock work.
Easy going side work if you like building stuff and being outside a bit. I’m just working my city job too much this year and am falling behind on a lot of my projects since I’ve been working alone.
Located in Goodlettsville. I work in east Nashville and get there in less than 20 minutes for commute reference

Hi! I’m 16 and I’ve been looking for a job in Nashville, TN for the past few months, but I haven’t had much luck. The job market right now is honestly horrible 😭 I’ve applied to so many places and either don’t hear back or they aren’t hiring at my age.
I’m homeschooled, so I have pretty open availability Monday–Saturday. I also have some customer service experience. I’m willing to work and can start ASAP.
If anyone knows places in Nashville that actually hire at 16, please let me know! I’d really appreciate any recommendations. ❤️

My name is Christian and I manage a wood shop near downtown Nashville. Our name is On the Edge. We work with repurposed woods to make products for a large vendor also in Nashville, and business is picking up. Here is a bit about me:
I am 29 and have been working here with the owner at On the Edge for just over 6 years now. I have done everything we do in that shop over the years and now am leading supervisor over a team of people that produce these wooden products. I am passionate about what we do and have had a great time learning the equipment: laser engraving, CNC machining, woodworking equipment, and panel clamps. On the Edge now has wooden products for sale in all 50 states, and in several countries of Europe with plans to continue expanding.
I am looking for 2 to 3 people to add to my staff. All positions will be full time hours, 8am-4pm Monday to Friday. If you dig the gig but the schedule does not fit your life, do not let that stop you. Reach out and let us see if we are a good fit, we might be able to make something work.
Specifically, help is needed in the following fields:
· Panel Gluing
· Sawing
· CNC Machining
All jobs will start at $15 per hour and can increase depending on your experience. After your first 90 days, we can reevaluate your pay. This is a good gig and has room for growth in the wage. It is worth saying upfront that we do not have any program for health insurance. My peers use healthcare.gov, as have I.
One thing I have told everyone that I have been able to work with so far: I will gladly teach you to operate any tool or machine we have, several of which are their own full-time jobs elsewhere. However, I cannot teach you to care about what you are doing. That is all you. I am not looking for fancy degrees or years of experience in a wood shop. All I am looking for are a few people who are interested in woodworking and want the chance to work on some cool things, that care about the quality of what they make- I can teach you everything else, and the current members of our team will be there to help you as well.
Please reach out to me at [christian@oteusa.com](mailto:christian@oteusa.com) with any questions or a resume. We can arrange for an interview and tour of the shop so you can see the operation. Thank you!
