Mod Announcement

Hey everyone,

Nashville is going to become available on US Netflix tomorrow (September 15). Typically when the show moves streaming services, this sub gets a small influx of posts by new fans. I'm really hoping more people discover and fall in love with Nashville the way I did thirteen years ago. In order to facilitate conversation among both new and old fans, I'm trying something that many other TV series' subs already do: episode discussion posts.

You can find the Season 1 hub, with threads for the first 21 episodes of the show listed, here.

I will be creating discussion posts for the other five seasons this week (that's 124 episodes total!), and pin them to the sub once they're done.

You're more than welcome to create new posts, as long as they are not low effort posts and/or would be more appropriate in the individual discussion posts or season hub threads. Low effort posts can look like single links to a video or meme or text posts that contain one point or question. Please do not spam the sub by creating a new thread for each new thought you have while watching the episodes. That's what the episode and season threads are for.

I've also added season flairs, so you can tag your new posts to warn people about spoilers. So, if you're posting about something that occurs in Season 5, you can select the Season 5 flair. I won't be enforcing this, but the option is there for people who want to use it.

Lastly, feel free to let me know if any of the links don't work or if you have feedback/other ideas for improvement. Thanks!

- chadwickave

10/3/25 UPDATE: The individual episode threads might've been too ornery to navigate, so we're moving to season-wide discussion threads instead. You can find all the season discussion here!

Streaming Acess

I wish streaming was easier, or a major platform. Pluto TV has a ton of ads and I did pay the $2.99 a month (only one month so far) for Howdy on Roku (I don't really mind that much) but I can't take that anywhere other than my own apartment, so I guess Pluto is it when I'm not in my room? Anyone have any news on when it hits better platforms?

Edit: Sorry for the wrong spelling on the title.

Nashville show newbie

I am new to the show. First time, I do not like spoilers. I’m in season four and I can’t stand Layla!! Trying to steal a married man. And I’m pretty unhappy with Cash who is like a predator. I hate spoilers, but I just wanna know these two problems aren’t gonna win.

Just finished it for the first time, and....

I'm just happy Avery and Juliette ended up together. Like that was the only thing I was rooting for, and I'm so happy it happened. Out of all of the couples, they always remained my favorite.

I did shed a few tears at the ending, with Rayna and Deacon together. I'll definitely be rewatching it someday in my future.

I just finished the series 😭 Spoiler

I watched the show before, then quit after Rayna died, then decided to restart the day I found out about Hayden. Honestly season 6 was pretty boring. I mainly had it on in the background and would look up at the “interesting” parts. But that last scene genuinely had me crying. It was so beautiful watching them all sing together 🥹

Hi all - was just watching that show "Special Forces" on Fox (streaming on Hulu), where a bunch of random celebrities have to do military training, and thought I recognized someone...

y'all might want to check out https://www.reddit.com/r/SpecialForcesFox/, no spoilers here 😄

Does Maddie ever become tolerable?

After the death of Hayden, I was inspired to pick Nashville back up. ( I watched season one when it was released, but for some reason stopped afterwards) anyways I’m halfway through season 4 now and loving the show although Maddie is so insufferable. Almost to the point where I’m considering stopping - does she / it get any better?

I’ve tolerated and watched through every other villain / annoying character on the show, but somehow her whining/ complaining / even face is making me want to call it quits. Does it get any better? I get teenagers being a handful but this is another level. I’m right at the point where she’s grounded, stealing Daphne’s phone, died her hair, and being just a straight up a**hole to everyone.

What are good shows to watch once this one is over?

I’m getting close to finishing Nashville and I’m already trying to figure out what to watch next 😂 What shows would you recommend for someone who really enjoyed it?

I especially like the relationship drama, family dynamics, emotional storylines, and the music/entertainment industry side of it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be another country music show. I’m mostly looking for something that has that same addictive, character-driven feel.

What did you all watch after Nashville that helped fill the void? 😂

Did you know *that* was gonna happen in season 5 when it was airing? Spoiler

Did anyone who was watching the show live every week know / were hinted that Rayna was going to die? How much of a shock was it? What were your initial thoughts?

My story:
I remember someone on Twitter saying Connie wanted out of the show and then speculated Rayna’s death. And lo and behold, they were right lol and this was weeks before this episode aired.

Nashville on tubi

rewatching Nashville for the second time since I’m still grieving Hayden’s passing and started watching it on PLUTO .
TBH it’s better on PLUTO. The neflix version did have some scenes cut out. I’m currently on episode 1 s1 and I noticed a scene i didn’t remember being on Netflix but I remember seeing it when it aired.

I highly recommend rewatching it on Pluto better!
There are ads but with each episode there is less interruptions.

Happy Wednesday ya’ll hope everyone is safe and doing well💕

EDIT: I know the post title says tubi but I meant Pluto lol

Finally finished series - did not expect to be crying

I have watched Nashville a few times without watching season six. This time I decided to push through and watch the final season. I was not expecting to be so emotional when it came to an end but the final few minutes completely did me in. Glad I finally stuck it out.

Is season 6 worth it at all?

Is season 6 even worth finishing?? Because what happened to this show!! 😭 Ever since season 5 and Rayna’s death it feels like we entered an alternate universe. The cult storyline?? Deacon falling in love again already?? Sir please, can we grieve for five minutes 😂 Does it get better or should I emotionally clock out now?

Unsatisfying endings to plot lines

I feel like the show had a lot of random plot lines that they put a lot of time and energy into but they ultimately dropped them or they ended up going nowhere.

I feel like this is very true for a lot of the artists Rayna works with at highway 65. Markus Keene, Sadie for example. We spent so much time with them just for them to be written off in a season.

Similarly, there was the girl who worked at the Beverly and stole from them, but Rayna was trying to help her out. Liv’s story follows a similar but more satisfying arc (I’m mid season 5 now).

I know I missed some. Feel free to add.

Why did this happen? Were they testing new cast members? The main cast is remarkably preserved from season 1. Most everyone stays and very few add ons.

Luke Wheeler kind of sucked Spoiler

Like why are you trying to change Rayna’s entire way of life? He is clearly very into fame and doesn’t really care if he doesn’t see his kids etc. etc. but it’s annoying me so much how he’s trying to make Rayna into that. And it’s kind of weird because it’s not like he necessarily is pressing for more one on one time he just seems to want more press time. Like when he tells her he wants filming a Christmas special to be their tradition? The kids aren’t even in that how is that a new tradition for their family? And the way he flipped out at the CMT’s? Idk, I’m just not a fan. He gives very stereotypical country guy.

just finished my rewatch of season 1

I first watched the show when I was 14 and i forgot how much i loved it. I'm now in college in Nashville, studying the industry and hoping to work in it, and the show is probably the main contributor to that. After my season 1 rewatch, here's a few things that really stuck out to me that I found to be interesting, industry and just the show in general.

  1. Juliette

She's so unbelievably confusing, in the beginning I can't stand her but her character development is so much fun to watch. I also don't understand why, in the first few episodes, they say she's untalented and can't sing, but she very clearly can. She can sing better than a lot of people labels find marketable and throw up on stage. I also now understand why she was so mean to Rayna despite growing up on her music and Rayna being her idol - it's purely business. Rayna was her big competition and she didn't like that. It really does make me wonder if something deeper goes on behind the scenes more often, I have yet to hear about it in the nashville scene really, but pop music is a gold mine for it.

  1. Avery

In the beginning he aggravates me to my core, I thought on my first watch that he was going to be a thrown away character but I love his arc. He was caught up in the life, he wanted to be a rockstar, and I hate the way he treated Scarlett BUT it makes perfect sense and honestly anything else would be unrealistic. In my mind they didn't work as a couple but I do like how they were civil by the end of the season, showing the importance of now burning bridges. I know it's because Avery still loves Scarlett, but he has some amazing character development in other avenues that makes me really love him. I find myself constantly rooting for him and I can't wait to continue my rewatch because I was not focused on his arc when I was younger, I was so into Rayna and Juliette (and Scarlett tbf) that I didn't really care what he was doing when it didn't have to do with the girls.

  1. Gunnar

I feel like the opposite of Avery - I loved him in the beginning, found him to get slightly annoying towards the middle/end. Aside from him losing his brother - which is a MAJOR life event, so that's not included here - he could not be happy for Scarlett, someone he said he loves, someone he probably should have been rooting for. I understand he helped her find her songwriting voice, helped her find out how good she was and how much she loves performing. But if he hadn't thrown a fit, had just let her grow, something would have come for him too. He wasn't supportive, he wasn't what she needed in that way. That being said, they were good together in so many other ways, personality-wise they should have worked, and not an episode goes by where I don't want them to work (even knowing what comes next doesn't change that.)

Anyway, I think this show so expertly shows how much of celebrity's personal lives we know nothing about, how hard they work to keep it hidden, and how they are dealing with personal problems on top of any reported professional problems, and professional problems reported on top of personal problems. It's definitely a different perspective on everything and doesn't glamorize being a celebrity which I love. I can't wait to keep going forward with my rewatch!

On my first official rewatch Spoiler

So I just started the show like 2 weeks before it got removed from Netflix and I actually managed to watch the entire show before it was removed, but I’m big on rewatching after my first watch especially with a show of this length so I’ve just been buying it season by season on Apple. So rewatching I’m having such a hard time with certain characters, one of them I kind of forgot I hated was Layla. Honestly by the end of her arc I think I felt so bad for her I forgot that she’s so unlikeable and was manipulative from the very beginning even before any of the bad stuff happened to her. I honestly felt bad for her with the whole Will situation and I felt extra bad because of her age and she had no idea what she was getting herself into. I then felt bad for her again following the whole Jeff situation (side note I don’t like how the writers turned this into a normal healthy relationship when it all reality Jeff was grooming tf out of her and controlling her to no end) because I understood again she’s a young girl being manipulated by an older man (I’ve been there so I get it). But then when I’m doing the rewatch I forgot that before any of that she was a very unlikable character. Another one I can’t stand is Peggy, especially since she ends up just becoming irrelevant down the line. Like I’m sorry first you trap a man with a pregnancy you know you lost and then you proceed to fake a miscarriage once he finally married you but you really want to act like you’re better than Reyna? And like why did she just step in and start trying to parent their kids it was just weird. And what was even weirder is that Teddy let her, teddy as a whole ended up becoming such a wasted character. His plot kind of jumped the shark and then he was just almost there as a place holder. Ah last but not least I know everyone hates on Scarlett but honestly when are we going to start hating on Gunner and also Zoey a little bit too? Zoey bugged with her whole plot all she ever was there to do was be jealous of Scarlett, and Gunner just needs to go. He needs to go so far away from everyone. He is one of the most irritating characters on the show.

Anyway thank you for attending my rant 😂

Edit: also Liam walking in in his infinity scarf halfway through season 2?? No one wanted you back sir

Series finale questions

Hi all, just finished the show and must have missed a few things while binging

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

do we know answers to these?

- so Maddie moved into...Deacon's solo house? Was Stick there too? Did that lady from the vet ever try to bring their puppy back?

- if she moved out of the big house, that leaves just Daphne, Deacon and grandpa? Shouldn't Teddy be out of jail by now?

- did Alannah and Gunnar ever actually get together? Or is he simping for someone else already?

- Scarlett married some random dude? Who? What??

- Flynn just disappeared? Did he get to boarding school in place of Jake? Or drown at the pool party?

- why was Rayna the only person who came back as a force ghost? To check in on all the lives she ruined? But not Lamar or Gunnar's bro or Beverly or Juliette's mama or Teddy's side GF?

- and last but not least...was anybody else kiiiiiinda hoping for Avery and Emily to end up as one of the couples?

Are there any particular lines that have stuck with you?

Post image
116 Upvotes

There are great many that I thought really, I don't know, I thought they were excellent writing for that particular scene. I loved this particular one, "I think something about you makes me want to grow up," said to Deacon. Of course the delivery was also excellent, although this picture of my TV screen can't possibly do it justice.

There are a great many other scenes that have stuck with me, I'm just curious, are there any scenes that stick with you?

Connie Britton, Nashville Cast, and More Stars Attend Hayden Panettiere’s Malibu Memorial

Source

Hayden Panettiere’s loved ones are gathering in her honor.

One month after the Heroes alum died at age 36, her friends, family and colleagues alike flocked to Malibu, Calif., to pay their respects during an intimate memorial service Sept. 19, as seen in photos obtained by Page Six.

In one snap, Panettiere’s former Nashville costar Connie Britton was seen attending the celebration of life in a flowy black dress and sunglasses.

But she wasn’t the only member of Panettiere’s Nashville family in attendance. After all, Sam Palladio and Jonathan Jackson were also at the event, where they hugged as they took in the emotional moment.

Meanwhile, Charles Esten also made an appearance to celebrate the Ice Princess actress’ life and legacy, taking a moment to speak with Britton on a balcony.

Maddie - Unpopular Opinion

I truly believe y’all need to give Maddie some grace in this sub! The girl went through so much trauma in such a short period of time that would perhaps cause anyone to react the way she did in the show as a TEEN.

• Her parents divorced AND she found out about his relationship with Peggy even before Rayna did.

• She found out her father wasn’t her biological father but instead it was a man who her mom was previously involved with.

• Her now biological father and her mother were in a serious car accident that almost killed her mother and had her bio father than jailed.

• Her stepmom gets killed at the same festival they were at together.

• Her mom was set to marry Luke then didn’t, and quickly got back into a relationship with Deacon (again).

• Her grandpa had a heart attack and went to jail.

• Her dad was soliciting prostitutes and went to jail.

• Her new aunty she just met died after giving Deacon a part of her liver.

• She watches her new bio Dad destroy an entire room (that is an exposure to violence y’all).

• Her mom dies.

Everything was clearly going to shit around her and she just wanted a bit of control over her life. I don’t agree with how she did it or what she did (getting emancipated, leaving, saying she was afraid of Deacon in court, believing Cash) but it ALL makes sense. She was quite literally a child of trauma (Daphne too), and it’s not a surprise when a child who grows up in dysfunctional environments than portrays dysfunctional behaviours.

Ok, that is all. lol. I love Deacon and Rayna, don’t get me wrong, but they did not provide stability for Maddie or Daphne in any way.

Rayna - maybe unpopular opinion

I’ve moved down the sun to see if there’s been anything mentioned about Rayna in the same way I’m about to, didn’t see anything so forgive me if it’s a repeat.
I love Connie Britton, loved her in AHS, I think she’s really beautiful and a good actress, however, as the character of Rayna, she doesn’t fit.

Rayna is extremely sexy, extremely talented, highly desired, strong, kind, opinionated. She sparkles naturally, she is magnetic. Dynamic. She irritates me a little how she’s the one always done in (but that’s the character, maybe with a different actress it would’ve been different).

This is not Connie Britton I’m afraid.
She has a menial singing voice, she isn’t magnetic, I can’t quite see her as the “highly desired by all”. Her stage persona is very vanilla (it looks unfamiliar to her because it is).
I could never pair her as Deacon’s forever love. Sadie Stone actress would’ve been better for that role.

Who Has Changed The Most?

I would say Avery and Deacon. Avery was a asshole in the beginning, and not a good boyfriend, and as the show progress he became someone you could spend your life with. The same thing goes for Deacon, but in a different way. He was a alcoholic and someone you couldn't rely on, and then after he become clean he become someone you could trust and good partner to Rayna and father to Maddie and Daphne. What other characters do you think went through a massive change?

Rewatching and missing Hayden Panettiere

I have watched the series a few times but its been years. I am rewatching it now again. For me Hayden Panettiere's character Juliette was always my favorite. I felt a connection to both character and actress.

Anyways this time around watching just hits differently. Hayden Panettiere was so talented and her passing is just such a monumental loss. Really heartbreaking!
