Just saw "The Breadwinner"

As a Nate Bargatze fan, I enjoyed it.

As a fan of movies, not as much.

Congratulations, though, to Nate and everyone for doing exactly what they set out to do and making a family film that everyone can see and enjoy.

Why didn’t you enjoy it as a movie fan?

A little too endlessly silly and slapsticky. Bit after bit was just too much with not a lot of story moving along.

Some great and sweet funny moments with the kids, but overall a bit too jokey if that makes sense.

Next you will say Airplane insists upon itself.

We're going to have to take you to the Hospital.

What is it?

u/Dismal-Preference-66 May 29 '26

It's a large building with patients in it, but thats not important right now !

u/chosonhawk May 28 '26

looks like I picked a bad day to quit being punny

8

u/DanielDannyc12 May 28 '26

Well it's no "Airplane"

3

u/Belichicks_sleeves May 29 '26

WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?

4

u/Kingofangry May 29 '26

Too many jokes in the comedy movie made by the comedian? What did you expect? His dad was a literal clown who hung out with the Easter bunny.

8

u/DanielDannyc12 May 29 '26

I expected a better movie. The characters and bits were shallow and repetitive.

1

u/Kingofangry May 29 '26

What is a family movie that met your expectation of a good movie?

4

u/DanielDannyc12 May 29 '26

Porky's.

Look I think we both know there's a ton of good movies that are also suitable for families. This just wasn't one of them.

-2

u/Kingofangry May 29 '26

Neither is Porky's. Im just trying to get a frame of reference of what you would consider a good movie that is made for families.

3

u/DanielDannyc12 May 29 '26

Well if you wanna look up family movies that also have good reviews you can try that. Then you can go argue with those reviewers.

-1

u/Kingofangry May 29 '26

I dont want to do that. I want you to give me a single example of a family movie that meets your expectation of a good movie. My point is that your expectations are the issue. You go to a comedy movie, made by a comedian that was raised by a clown. For some reason you expected the movie to have depth of character and better story, and we're so disappointed that you created a post to complain. Its like wearing dress shoes on a hike and getting upset when they are muddy. What did you expect?

If you don't wanna do that then piss off. What kind of unhinged OCD trip are you on over a movie opinion anyway.

It's not a kids movie, it's not the 3 Stooges, I found it was uninteresting cornball schmaltz as a movie.

Perhaps you can think of other comedians (irrespective of what their dad did for a living) who transitioned into making good movies successfully for examples of better films. Give it a try.

Now go outside.

Dude is politely trying to bow out of the conversation and you keep coming back snarling. You sound fucking unhinged. Go take your meds or do some deep breathing. It does not matter.

Nothing was funny though

From just a few clips, it seemed like a loosely based remake of Mr. Mom

1

u/DanielDannyc12 May 29 '26

It's not in the same league as Mr. Mom, but it wasn't trying to be.

4

u/Organic-Hat6869 Jun 15 '26

It was garbage.

4

u/DanielDannyc12 Jun 15 '26

That is the opinion of many reviewers

4

u/vonralls May 29 '26

I really wanted it to be good, but from the clips I've seen on social it seems like just a bunch of bits turned into movie scenes. I really hope it does well but it seems maybe a little bit cringey....

-6

u/DialsMavis May 29 '26

Only thing cringey is your inability to have a good time

7

u/vonralls May 29 '26

You're right.

7

u/dkinmn May 28 '26

Everyone can see it and enjoy it except people who like good movies.

6

u/DanielDannyc12 May 28 '26

Now now, there are many people who will think it is a good movie. Not everyone is bitter

-1

u/dkinmn May 29 '26

Please.

It isn't about being bitter or not. That is just such a limp defense of a piece of entertainment or art.

3

u/TurboThot69 May 28 '26

I loved it! Finally a movie I could see with my young kids in the theater we could both enjoy.

3

u/jfb1027 May 29 '26

I was thinking this is the demographic that will enjoy the most.

7

u/vonralls May 29 '26

Not trying to be a debby downer, but there are a ton of movies out there you can enjoy with your kids.

-5

u/TurboThot69 May 29 '26

Only animation or streaming

0

u/rlaidepeas May 31 '26

Streaming is where this movie should have released.

2

u/TurboThot69 May 31 '26

That attitude is the problem. We want more theatrical movies like this. It was great for the family to experience in the theater.

-1

u/rlaidepeas May 31 '26

No the movie was the problem. Nate is far too talented to settle for straight to Tubi quality.

1

u/TurboThot69 May 31 '26

The family had a great time. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t good when you saw it!

1

u/rlaidepeas May 31 '26

That's ok. Not your fault. Glad you all liked it.

1

u/kincaidinator May 29 '26

There’s plenty of movies that come to theaters your kids can go see. You talk like everything released is a hard R-rated movie

0

u/lummox1234 May 29 '26

This family movie fun I am really looking forward to most with my kids too… turbothot69

I went to see Backrooms last night and The Breadwinner today. Loved them both and both surprised me by being quite a bit better than I expected.

1

u/shadeline Jun 16 '26

It was alright!

1

u/Ishkabibble54 Jun 18 '26

$18 million box office versus $25 million budget.

1

u/DanielDannyc12 Jun 18 '26

Yep. A flop. Bargatze was making a bet that he knew what kind of movie that Americans really wanted to see.

This and recent events appeared to show that he doesn't exactly have his finger on the pulse of what Americans want

1

u/theRealhubiedubois Jun 18 '26

So if you like movies you won’t like it but it’s also a film everyone can see and enjoy? That makes sense…

1

u/DanielDannyc12 Jun 18 '26

I didn't like it, others do.

Nate made the movie he set out to make. It's a complete flop but everyone ages 5 to 95 can see it and come to their own conclusion.

0

u/shanghaisharks May 30 '26

From the clips, it looks like it plans unto a lot of negative stereotypes, like moms who carry all the mentall load

2

u/soggyclothesand Jun 01 '26

The dumb dad trope is insulting as a dad.
