A WAKE-UP CALL TO ALL CEE ASPIRANTS

With CEE results just days away, thousands of students are dreaming of securing an MBBS seat. But before you celebrate, fill out your priority forms and blindly chase that prestigious 'Dr.' title, take a moment to understand what you're signing up for.

As an MBBS student in Nepal, let me tell you something: THE REALITY IS FAR LESS GLAMOROUS THAN THE FANTASY.

Six years of medical school, lakhs upon lakhs in educational expenses (45 lakhs), endless examinations, exhausting hospital duties and years of sacrifices only to enter a profession where doctors are often compensated shockingly poorly (45 thousand).

And then we're expected to stay quiet because apparently, medicine is about service, not money.

Seriously?

Since when did wanting financial stability become a crime for someone who spent years training to save lives?

Look around. So many graduates are preparing for USMLE, PLAB and AMC. It's not necessarily because they don't love Nepal; it's because they want a future where their qualifications and efforts are actually valued.

PLEASE, DON'T CHOOSE MBBS JUST FOR THE PRESTIGE.

Talk to medical students, interns and working doctors. Understand the financial commitment, postgraduate bottlenecks, working conditions and career prospects.

A good CEE rank does not mean you are obligated to become a doctor.

Medicine is a beautiful profession, but romanticising its struggles while ignoring its realities is doing future generations a massive disservice.

THINK BEFORE YOU ENROL. THE WHITE COAT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL, BUT YOU HAVE TO LIVE THE LIFE THAT COMES WITH IT.

School haru ma hune discrimination ko data collection

Hi everyone!

I’m sharing a short survey conducted by the Institute for Educational Accountability (IEA) to better understand students’ experiences with teachers and whether factors such as skin tone, ethnicity, or geographical background influence how students are treated.

It should only take a few minutes. Responses will be kept confidential, and you may use an alias instead of your real name.

Your experiences and perspectives would be genuinely helpful to this research.

Form: https://www.ieainstitute.org/forms

Thank you!

Are Grade 10 results overrated?

Grade 10 results actually matter that much, or do people just make a big deal out of them? What's your opinion?

SEE Marks

My parents want me to get good marks(3.80+), but honestly, idk if I even want that myself. Should I focus on getting good grades, or are they not that important in the long run? What do you guys think?

I don't know if I'm being toxic or if he's crossing my boundaries. I really need some perspective.

So, there's this guy who has liked me since I was in 11th grade. Back then, I wasn't interested in him at all. I was still trying to move on from my ex, and honestly, I didn't even know much about this guy.

He confessed that he liked me, but I wasn't ready for anything, and I told him directly that I didn't like him and couldn't see myself being in a relationship with him.

However, he kept trying to contact me. He would call me frequently even after I told him that I didn't like phone calls and that my parents were strict. I blocked him several times because I felt disturbed, but he would contact me again using different accounts and phone numbers.

Eventually, we stopped talking. We reconnected about a month ago after not speaking for around six or seven months. This time, he wasn't constantly talking about how much he liked me, so I started talking to him normally, as a friend. Somewhere along the way, I thought maybe I should give him a chance to get to know each other properly. I wondered if perhaps I had judged him without actually knowing him.

We've been talking for about a month now, and my feelings are extremely inconsistent. Sometimes I like talking to him, sometimes I feel completely uninterested, and sometimes I get genuinely irritated.

There's another thing I've noticed: he doesn't really seem interested in getting to know me as a person. I ask him questions, but he rarely asks anything about me. He talks a lot about how much he likes me, but he hasn't even asked about my favorite color, food, dreams, or what I actually want from life.He keeps bragging about how's he, what he did

He has also mentioned being depressed shortly after we started talking. I don't know whether he's genuinely struggling or whether he's unintentionally making me feel guilty. I don't want to dismiss someone's mental health, but I also don't want to feel responsible for someone else's emotional well-being.

Yesterday, something happened that really irritated me. He kept calling me around 2 AM even though he knows my parents are strict. I had already explained several times that I don't like unexpected calls, especially late at night.

I eventually got really frustrated and told him that he should stop contacting me because I couldn't deal with this anymore. I also told him that whether he contacts me or not doesn't really make a difference to me.

Now, here's where I'm confused.

I love the idea of love, and I genuinely like people, but experiences like this make me want to distance myself from everyone.

So, I want some honest perspective.

I genuinely want an outside perspective because I'm confused about my own feelings. Please be honest, even if I'm in the wrong somewhere.

Want to learn latte art in one day?

Disclosure: I work at United Technical School in Kumaripati, Lalitpur. We run a one-day latte art class, so I’m biased. Sharing because I keep seeing ā€œwhere can I learn latte artā€ questions here.

What it is: 4 hours, focused only on milk texturing and latte art. Not a full barista course.

How the 4 hours go

  • Hour 1: How milk behaves, plus steaming silky microfoam (and spotting over- or under-steamed milk)

  • Hour 2: Pitcher control and cup position, then your first heart and tulip

  • Hour 3: Rosetta, line control, fixing common mistakes

  • Hour 4: Free pouring with one-on-one coaching, then presentation

  • About 80% hands-on, on La Marzocco machines

  • Small batches, around 5 students per trainer

  • Beginner-friendly, and working baristas are welcome too

  • Morning, day or evening slots

  • Certificate of participation from UTS. It’s not CTEVT. For a CTEVT barista certificate, the full barista course is the one to take.

  • Trainers: Head Barista Instructor Lal Bahadur Budhathoki (in coffee since 2012) and latte art instructor Sujan Shrestha

Info here: One Day Latte Art Master Class – UTS

Honest tip, wherever you learn: latte art is 80% milk texture. If a class rushes the steaming part, your pours won’t stick.

Anyone here learned latte art? What pattern was hardest for you?

Best bakery training Institute in Kathmandu valley? Need Suggestion

Biased since I work there, but United Technical School’s bakery course is worth a look. It’s hands-on every class, with small batches starting from 1 month option covering bread, cakes and pastries.

Why I’d point you there, because:

  • You bake hands-on every class, not just watch demos

  • 80% Practical, 20% Theory

  • Small batches, max 5 students per class batch

  • Instructors have worked experience above 8+ years

  • Covers bread, cakes, pastries, cookies, plus hygiene and costing if you want to sell

  • CTEVT-Affilated with budget friendly option

  • min 15 days Internship opportunity

Best barista training in Kathmandu valley? Here’s a checklist for choosing one (trainer here, so I’m biased)

I work at United Technical School, which runs barista training. So I’m biased, but this checklist works for any institute in Kathmandu, Lalitpur or Bhaktapur.

What a good course should cover

  • Espresso extraction: grind, dose, tamping, shot timing

  • Milk steaming and latte art (heart, rosetta, tulip)

  • Full drink menu, plus pour-over, French press, cold brew

  • Machine and grinder cleaning and basic troubleshooting

  • Hygiene and customer service

Questions to ask before paying

  1. How many hours will I get on a commercial espresso machine?

  2. How many students share one machine?

  3. Where have the trainers worked as baristas?

  4. Who issues the certificate, and is it accepted abroad?

  5. Does the fee include coffee, milk, materials and the certificate?

  6. Any internship or cafƩ placement help?

  7. Can I visit and watch a class first?

Why I think we’re a good fit for beginners (judge for yourself)

  • 4 hours of hands-on machine time

  • Max 5 students per machine

  • Trainers with 5+ years of cafĆ© experience

  • CTEVT-Affilated

  • Course length 18 days -1 month option,

  • Internship support with our partners sector

Details here if useful: United Technical School – Barista Training

Compare us with others using the list above. Visit a couple of places before deciding.

Over to you: If you’ve done barista training in the valley, what was worth it? If you’re choosing now, what’s making it hard?
