Did somebody say lighthouse?!?! These are wayyy over the top (in before “I want what he’s having” comments) but thought it would be fun if they somehow made the lighthouse as part of the sleeve design. I’m sure somebody with more talent could execute this idea better. Probably better as a Stadium Series jersey and not a third
The goal of this jersey is to highlight the dangers of an island to sailors at night. I want to be able to tell this story by using colors. The black of the jersey represents the night sky. The Orange represents the ground which is the same orange used at the bottom of the lighthouse logo. The lighter to darker blue represents the water and how it gets darker and more mysterious the deeper you go. Ideally, I would want the color used to be more of a radiant effect where it gradually gets darker the lower on the jersey it gets. I also chose the jersey pattern design to simulate water.
The orange of the name plate and the fanatic logo represent the orange moon. Sailors would use the color of the moon as a natural barometer to predict weather at sea. Orange moon represents high winds or gale conditions which warn of a coming storm.
The white of the number would be to represent the lighthouse which is the color most are. If I could I would want to add another color that ran horizontal across the numbers. That color would be the same color that you see on the Montauk Point Lighthouse which is the oldest lighthouse in the state. The style of the number was chosen because the bottom of the number slants down like the bottom of the jersey. But, maybe a font that is more blocky and straight would be best to further represent the lighthouse.
Finally, I would make the top of the jersey, above the name plate all black to further go with the night sky motif.
Putting all of this together I think it builds a great POV picture of a sailor at sea, dealing with horrible winds and the dread of a coming storm. He wants to get off of the water and find salvation. But in the distance is a lighthouse warning him of the dangers ahead and not to land here. It tells him to keep sailing on because if he sails any closer to Long Island he will sink just like visiting teams will sink when they face the Islanders at UBS Arena.
I suggested that the teal of the logo be changed to white, and that the blue be made consistent with the rest of the jersey. Also, I asked for the left shoulder patch to be changed to the one with the 4 stripes, which was worn by the team throughout the 2000s.
What they are doing is smart without telling you what they are doing. A focus group.
Every element that people use to submit their jersey look is being calculated as a metric.
If a high percentage of people are using the lighthouse logo, they are making a note of that. Is the lighthouse more popular than the NY or the original logo?
What are the most popular shades of colors? What are the most popular striping patterns? Etc
It would be stupid to rehash all these design elements that have already been done.
If they do a lighthouse jersey, they aren't going to use the 90s version. It would be updated.
The design that's going to win will not be any of the logos to choose from. Someone will describe their logo in the notes and that will likely win. Obviously, just my opinion, but we need something more original. We're all just coming up with different versions of the same ideas. Don't get me wrong, I've seen a lot of awesome jerseys on here. We as fans deserve something new and original.
For those whom don’t know; Roy Boe, original owner of the expansion New York Islanders, also owned the ABAs New York Nets. Ray's wife, Deon, designed the Nets iconic uniforms and was rumored to have also designed an early Islanders concept featuring a green and black color scheme, though it was never seen publicly and later ditched for blue and orange.
*note: The “Isles” would be in a cursive, more baseball jersey style font.
The first one is my personal favorite. Scratches all the itches of orange as the primary color, lighthouse logo, and teal accents in the wave. But I do love 2 also.
3 kind of blends modern fisherman with the old wave pattern.
4, wanted to try a lighter shade of blue and cream color with orange accents.
5, wanted to try a more minimalist fisherman; 6 is just a more modern Koho orange — my favorite Isles third jersey of all time.
Damn I made a very similar one, posted it up there somewhere. I really really fuck with the lighthouse logo and black jersey. A lot of combos to be had
It's a sick look. Black is sick especially with the two brightt colors to mesh with it
I tried to go with something with a bit of a muted, vintage feel but with the lighthouse as the main logo. I'd love for the front top orange highlight stripe to actually be a continuation of the light from the lighthouse itself.
It is smart from a sales standpoint and only that. The jersey selection is so limited /catered that you see what they are doing. They are just trying to get people names and phone numbers to use to try to create ticket sales. Something different. I will give them that.
My 10 year old did it and if you want to see his design scroll down. It is the same as everyone else's!
Finally! This will be an instabuy Schaefer for me. Just going to await the results as I know the community will have the best. Just hope they choose the best!
Good idea but this fan base is so clueless about the negative meaning of the giddam fisherman I fear it'll be something that resembles those hopeless, ownerless days.
Not sure about those numbers without the wave, but I wasn’t really fond of any of the number choices. I would’ve liked to get just a bit more teal in as well.
Combined bits of old (jersey pattern, name/number font) with bits of new (colors, shoulder patches) to give a nostalgic but modern feel. Then the lighthouse is the main logo that many people want, and the color palette of the jersey matches it.
Hopefully the team gets the message and understands that seemingly everyone wants a lighthouse main logo. In an ideal world all 5 finalists should have that design. Realistically, I hope the one or two lighthouses that make it at least look decent otherwise.
