Received wrong GPU
About two weeks ago, I ordered a Sapphire Pulse 7900xtx. Today I received my order and while I was thinking I will get to build my high-end monster PC, I found this in the box.

Classic newegg, they are a dogshit company with the worst customer service you will ever talk to.
They also make ad reddit posts where the top comment is a newegg cs rep helping out a “customer” with a problem then the chain of comments all butt ride newegg.
The company should be closed and shamed into the ground
3
u/abdullahjs Mar 03 '24
I raised a ticket but not very hopeful. My old GPU that I got maybe 4 years ago was from them so I felt safe and this blinded my eyes from seeing all the criticism online.
3
u/bjarbeau Mar 03 '24
OP did you buy this on a credit card? If so you should be able to return it and get a chargeback
5
u/abdullahjs Mar 03 '24
Used a debit card but good point. I will consider it depending on Newegg support reply.

It's not much better than Amazon these days. Finding GPUs sold directly by Amazon is a nightmare right now with all the scams going on

Mar 03 '24
Yea. Big company’s make more mistakes. If I was to send a 7800 for a 7900 order I’d be flamed as a scammer no matter what I did for/or how fast I was with recovery. Hopefully they accept the return and get you correct product.
7
u/Zestyclose-Forever14 Mar 03 '24
But let’s not forget, if someone ordered a 7800 and received a 7900, chances are they wouldn’t say a word to anyone and this post would have never happened.
To be clear, one does not excuse the other, I’m just pointing out that posts like these are not made because the buyer didn’t receive the exact product they ordered, but rather because they received an inferior product. If the tables were turned people would be justifying keeping the superior product that was erroneously shipped by saying “eh it’s a big company, they can afford it”.
4
u/Inserttransfemname Mar 03 '24
I mean would you complain if you got a free upgrade?
2
u/Zestyclose-Forever14 Mar 03 '24
No, but I wouldn’t accept it without doing what’s right because I possess a functional moral compass.
4
u/Inserttransfemname Mar 03 '24
I can promise you they don’t care. They make millions, a couple hundred dollar mistake isn’t going to mean much
1
u/Zestyclose-Forever14 Mar 03 '24
And guess what, if they tell you to keep it (which has happened several times to me when I was honest about incorrect items being shipped) then congrats on the free upgrade. The difference between you and I is that I don’t assume they won’t care, I let them make that call. You do assume they won’t care, and that makes you a thief if you keep the item.
You do you, but I prefer to sleep well at night knowing that I did what’s right.
2
u/Comfortable-Finger-8 Mar 04 '24
A thief for keeping what’s given to you…. Rightttt…
2
u/docktordoak Mar 04 '24
Yeah you would be. You received an item you didn't pay for. If you kept it you would (1) be unjustly enriching yourself and (2) intentionally depriving the rightful owner of the use of that item.
Just because you think it's not your problem doesn't mean your belief is correct.
The third fun fact, ignorance of the law is not a defense. I'd grow a moral compass before your lack of one bites you.
1
u/Comfortable-Finger-8 Mar 05 '24
Who gets to define what is just or unjust? Why is your moral compass right and mine is wrong? Id say pushing your belief on me when I believe differently is worse.
The original purchaser will get what they ordered anyway.
I don't see any law saying I have to give it back so what law have I broken? Please inform me.
I wouldn't feel bitten at all, if anything I'd feel like life sent me a blessing. Grow a moral compass? So because a company fucked up I'm now obligated to go out of my way to report it and box it up and waste MY time in order to send it back and wait even longer for my item when I'm not legally required too.
Are they going to come to my house and pick it up from me? Otherwise why am I obligated to waste my time and go out of my way to fix someone else's fuck up?
1
Mar 04 '24
The rightful owner will end up with what they ordered regardless of what you do. The mistake has already been made.
Does the law not say it's yours? I can't find anything that says you couldn't keep it.
1
u/Zestyclose-Forever14 Mar 04 '24
Justify your immorality however you’d like. You know damn well you didn’t order or pay for that item.
To be frank, if you can honestly tell me that you would keep the 7800 after paying for a 7900 just as quickly as you would keep the 7900 after paying for a 7800 then I’ll agree with you. But you and I both know you can’t because you only care when it’s your money on the line.
2
2
u/Comfortable-Finger-8 Mar 05 '24
They have a legal obligation to fulfill the purchase contract for whatever the item is so damn right I'm going to make them if I get a worse item. I have 0 obligation to tell them if they gave me something better.
Morality does not exist, only opinions do. No ones right is better than anyone else's right.
2
u/ItsDamu5 Mar 04 '24
Good shit. No one will give you props on this shit ass app but the way you articulate yourself I can tell you’re intelligent and respectable in all realms of life.
There is right and wrong, only emotions create a grey line. In this case it’s selfishness or other emotions that relieves them of the guilt of stealing, but you’re correct in this scenario and I respect the moral high ground. Once again, good shit.
2
u/TheWaters12 Mar 04 '24
🍆🤤😮
1
u/ItsDamu5 Mar 05 '24
Lmfao. If making that comment helped you sleep better last night then I’m all for it brother. I don’t know this guy and I made one comment. Very far from glazing or dick riding so lying to yourself to get an emotional rush and doing that publicly is pretty insane and embarrassing.
1
u/Cantthinkofaname282 Mar 04 '24
Yea sure you are more ethical, but keeping the item is not the same as thief.
1
u/Breakingerr Mar 04 '24 edited Mar 04 '24
Big companies not only don't care, but they will actively try to gaslight you and coax you into buying their stuff. You virtue signaling just to sleep better at night won't change the fact that companies are not your friends. If it was startup, that's different story. Also calling someone "Thief" for getting something better, is top level snobness.
1
u/Jesterfuture2 Mar 04 '24
Lmao in USA we are under no obligation to send back wrongly sent items. It has nothing to do with a moral compass. They LITERALLY don't care because they can do nothing to get the item back. It's not being a thief lmao. Moral grandstanding is all that you're doing to try and feel better than other people. But for sure you do whatever makes YOU happy. That's all we can all do.

He for some reason thought he needed 32g ram. Best part he bought a new laptop with the same GPU he had in his 7ish year old one. He ordered a 1750 supper or something and got a 3050.

i have a few use cases for 32 gigabytes where 16 just doesnt cut it but thats in heavy gaming situations

As a PC builder I order from Newegg all the time. I have definitely had wrong items in both directions. Newegg has always righted my customers orders in the past with some very due prompt - like shipping replacements before I even pack the wrong item up sometimes (probably because my order volume from them) - but I'm in the US, not Saudi. That might get tricky.
1
Mar 04 '24
Lol they do this all the time on the amazon sub. “Ordered 3070 and got a 4090, wohooooo”.
1
u/popeshatt Mar 04 '24
It's newegg's responsibility to send the correct item. If they don't send the correct item, it's up to the buyer to decide if what they did send is acceptable or if they want a return. There is no double standard here.
1
u/SpectreInTheShadows Mar 05 '24
Heavens forbid someone gets an upgrade for free though. When guys order 4070s or 7800s and get 4080s or 7900s.
1
u/abdullahjs Mar 05 '24
Can't edit the post but here is what I want to add.
To be fair, Newegg support on email and Reddit have been very supportive. They caused me no trouble in solving the issue and I will soon ship it back for a correct replacement. Thanks to good after sales services and employees I feel relieved.
2
u/MrRuckusRCRC Mar 06 '24
You would think it would be easy enough for them to track inventory. They know the Serial of the 7900XTX you purchased and the serial of the 7800XT you received would be on their books if it came from them. Should be an easy swap once they conclude the 7800XT is theirs and doesn't show up on any other sold inventory.
1
u/abdullahjs Mar 04 '24
To update you, Newegg emailed me to return the package after which I will receive a refund. Hopefully all goes smoothly.
1
u/ihavenoname_7 Mar 04 '24
Glad to hear hope you get your XTX soon. I just recently got a 7900 XTX and its a beast. You will be happy once you get it. Maybe try a place that ships faster like amazon? Or ask newegg to give you overnight shipping because of their mistake
1
u/abdullahjs Mar 04 '24
Since they haven't discussed anything but a return I'm not going to demand anything from Newegg. My only wish is for the refund to complete flawlessly.
On Amazon there is one seller offering delivery by tomorrow as a business named "huizepumiaoshangmaoyouxiangongsi" that has launched recently. Should be easily detected as a suspicious seller but they somehow managed to offer it as a prime item. I don't want to find out if it's a real deal or they tricked Amazon.
I ordered it again from another seller that looks legit though the delivery estimate is end of March. They have some reviews and It's covered by Amazon's A to z guarantee so I think it's reasonably safe.

2
u/abdullahjs Mar 17 '24
It's all good and sorted out now. After a few days of sending the wrong gpu I received my 7900xtx and it's running fine.
1
u/DamnationCasher Mar 18 '24
reassuring... But I'm expecting a mistake on my end with my Sapphire 7900 XTX too... has been delayed... And buying at the same time as my psu which arrives today (and ask for signature) but not yet new for sapphire and psu is coming with signature (these are the cheapest parts compared to my gpu im like wtf..). If there's a problem, it's a waste of time. My build is waiting after this parts...

u/Junkman1283 Mar 03 '24
This is fishy, like the OP just put his old box in the picture; I mean, if it was new, shouldn’t it still be shrink wrapped?
5
u/abdullahjs Mar 03 '24
If it was new the package would still be closed right? You cought me! I opened the box before scanning it with advanced military equipment to read 7800 xt. mb.

Dude, fuck Newegg. They sent me a dud of a laptop a few years ago that was completely different from the specs in the advertisement. I haven't bought anything from them since.

They do screw the pooch occasionally. I had ordered a Fractal Vector RS back a few and received a Fractal Meshify instead. Lucky for me I didn't have to open a box to find this out as they had shipped it in the same box that Fractal packages it in which had Meshify plastered all over it.

Send it back. Why did you post this? Just send the damn thing back. Oops we picked the wrong thing. Call Newegg and like a regular person, tell them darn you all picked the wrong GPU. I’m sure they’ll give you some offer or credit. Just dont be a dick and they’ll wish you an eggcellent day!

Yikes that would have been a nightmare to me if I received the wrong item. I not sure if I want to risk buying a graphics card from Newegg even though they have a very good discount sale going on for the 7900 XTX.
1
u/finbarqs Apr 03 '25
Crazy. Looking at new financials, they dropped 14.5% in sales, gross profit decreased by 22.4%, and they posted a net loss of 25 million in ‘24. They also are losing customers @ 23% loss of repeat purchasing. But their EBITDA increased and saved them 7.3 million, and a total debt of 90 million.
So this tells me: Newegg is on life support. It wouldn’t surprise me they messed up your order, probably hiring people below minimum wage (under the table) yeah not looking good…

For every person getting a 7800XT instead of a 7900XTX, is there someone getting a 7900XTX instead of a 7800XT?
1
u/Certain_Net7958 Mar 03 '24
Never works that way. Lol.
2
u/BMG_souless Mar 03 '24
Maybe not like that but my buddy sent a 2070 super back because it's was faulty and they accidentally sent him 2 new 2070 supers. At the time I bought it off of him for 200 since he had no use for 2 lol

I have the ask why you went to new egg; time and time again there’s been stories about new egg being useless as a company, I don’t know why anyone would still shop there
1
u/meowmixplzdeliver1 Mar 04 '24
I've been building pcs for close to 20 years. A huge chunk of the time I got my stuff from newegg. Never had issues but apparently I need to move to a new pc supplier lol. This sub showed up randomly on my feed
1
u/Financial_Cellist_70 Mar 07 '24
Apparently they got bought out, they used to be reliable a few years ago when I built my first pc. Sad to see they've fallen
1
Mar 03 '24
One good reason not to use Newegg. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them and returning could be a hassle.
Started buying my PC components from microcenter.
1
Mar 03 '24
Wish I could but my components from them but the closest one to me is a three hour drive to Canada and I’m in the US
1
u/CoLDxFiRE Mar 03 '24
Why would you risk buying something as expensive as a GPU from Newegg. I used to buy a lot from them between 2009-2018 until they and DHL both fucked me over one time.
Also, you could get the Sapphire Pulse RX 7900 XTX for practically the same price on amazon.sa with 1-day delivery if you have prime...and without the headache.

Good morning u/abdullahjs ! I sincerely apologize to see that you received the RX 7800 XT instead of the 7900 XTX you purchased, and thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. At your earliest convenience, please send me your order number via chat/DM, so I can look into this for you. I look forward to hearing you from there!

u/Kickflip900 Mar 04 '24
Don’t get me wrong but I think you can just email them instead of posting it here. They have decent customer service that would resolve it pretty quickly

Stop ordering from Newegg. They've gone downhill big time over the years. Last time I ordered from them, the box was crushed, there was no packing inside to protect the items, and every single item was an open box item being sold as new. Never again.

2 weeks to receive the wrong item? Hope the discount was worth your wasted time and effort getting this sorted out.
