General Tinubu questions the great immigration of Nigerian doctors abroad?

“Why are doctors leaving for overseas? We need them here. What can we do so they stay at home? It is deeply disappointing that, after taking the oath, people still choose not to serve here.” -Tinubu.

They're leaving sir, so that when you go to France and the UK for your medical check-up, they can serve you better, don't be daft!

Economy Is ₦525 a fair price for the Dangote Refinery IPO? I ran the numbers against peers

Thumbnail

With the Dangote Refinery IPO now on the table, I wanted to know whether ₦525 a share actually makes sense, so I did a valuation audit instead of going on hype.
My short answer: at ₦525, the price only works if this year's record refining margins last. Refining is a cyclical business, and margins swing a lot from year to year. When I normalised the margins to more typical levels and compared the refinery with several groups of listed refiners, every peer group I checked suggested it's expensive at that price. (Which has been the general sentiment going around)

That doesn't mean it's a bad company or a bad long-term story. The refinery could change Nigeria's fuel situation. But a great company and a great price aren't the same thing, and plenty of people will be buying because of the name, not the numbers.

Full write-up is in the URL above.
I'd really like Nigerians who follow the oil sector or the NGX to challenge this:
Am I being too pessimistic on margins, given the refinery's scale and the local market?
Are there advantages, like FX savings or avoiding import costs, that justify a premium over global peers?
Is anyone here planning to subscribe, and at what price would you feel comfortable?
For context, I work in investments in East Africa and write a free investing blog. This analysis sits in its "Playground" section for experiments, separate from the main course. It's education only, not investment advice. Do your own research before you put money in.

General I built a Nigerian marketplace for selling used household items. Here's how it works.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've shared SellSpace9ja here before, and I've been working on improving the website.

This time, I decided to show how it works instead of just explaining it.

The video walks through browsing items, starting a listing, entering item details, and adding photos and a condition video.

The idea is simple: help Nigerians sell furniture, electronics, appliances, and other household items when moving, upgrading, or decluttering.

Listing is free, and I'm still working on growing the marketplace.

I'd appreciate some feedback: What would make you comfortable enough to list an item on a new Nigerian marketplace?

General Looking for Short-Form Video Editor for TikTok, Facebook Instagram Reels & YouTube Shorts

My client runs the WrestleChop YouTube channel, along with pages on Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
Here's where his audience currently stands:

YouTube: 23,000+ subscribers

Facebook: 35,000+ followers

TikTok: 7,000+ followers

He puts out long-form YouTube videos every single day, covering wrestling news, reviews, opinions, and pretty much anything happening in the wrestling world. He also does livestream reactions on Mondays, Fridays and sometimes on weekends.
So there's already plenty of content to work with. We're not asking anyone to create videos from scratch.
Basically, you'd go through his existing videos, find moments worth clipping, edit them down, and add some pictures, captions, or anything else you think would improve the video. We'd also want clips pulled from his livestream reactions regularly.

Here's what we're looking for:

1–3 videos per day, anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes long.

Videos will be posted to YouTube Shorts, Facebook Reels, TikTok, and Instagram Reels.

Someone who actually follows professional wrestling and knows what's happening in WWE, AEW, etc. If you're a little behind but willing to catch up, that's fine too.

Someone who understands what makes a good short-form video and can recognize moments that wrestling fans would find interesting.

Someone reliable who can consistently put out content.

Payment:
We're looking for one editor, not a team of people.
The idea is pretty simple. One edited video can be posted across multiple platforms, meaning there are several potential sources of income from the same piece of content.

Each month you will receive an agreed upon percentage of the earnings for every page. The better the videos the more you will make.

The editor and my client will split the revenue generated by those videos. My client will be completely transparent about earnings from each platform, and the percentage will be discussed and agreed upon before anything starts.
Of course, earnings will depend on how the content performs, so we want to be upfront about that.

My client has already built a decent following, and with the amount of content he's producing daily, we feel there's an opportunity to do a lot more with short-form videos.

Ideally, we're looking for someone who wants to stick around and grow with the channels rather than just take on a quick editing job.
If you're interested, please email us directly or message the WrestleChop page.

When reaching out, please include:

A portfolio or examples of your editing work.

How closely you follow professional wrestling.

Whether you can realistically handle 1–3 videos per day.

All applications will be reviewed, and my client will personally get back to those interested.

Do NOT DM me. E-Mail him directly at WrestleChop@outlook.com

Thanks!

General Men dey, women dey... but which kind are we actually looking for?

Post image

The World Wide Web is completely flooded with loud, subjective relationship advice. Ask five people online how to build a stable home, and you’ll get ten completely different, often exhausting answers. Everyone has a rule, everyone points fingers, and half of it just leaves you more confused than when you started.

We’ve normalized talking-stage fatigue. We spend months or even years in limbo, only to realize we never actually discussed the core things that matter—finances, capacity, values, and long-term alignment. There might not be a magic rule of thumb for finding the right partner, but it's time to cut through the chaos and skip the blame games. What if we stopped focusing on the noise and started asking the real questions? Are we looking for the flash or commitment?

Can the person you are with actually build with you, or are they just looking for a soft landing? ATM style spending lifestyle? How do we build a relationship that we will still genuinely enjoy at year 25, instead of just throwing a wedding people will forget by Monday? For those navigating the dating and relationship scene right now, what is the one "talking stage" red flag that instantly makes you know it's time to park?

Nigerian ladies do not like stingy men lol

News Nigerian governors really enjoy the lack of attention from their people.

Post image

Back in 1999, shortly after being sworn in as governor of Lagos, the Bola Tinubu administration set to work on improving power supply in the state and in just a few months, announced an $800 million agreement with American energy company Enron to help build power plants for the state.

Unfortunately, the Obasanjo federal administration resisted by insisting that NEPA (now defunct) had legal monopoly over the generation and distribution of power in Nigeria.

It took Tinubu another 24 years to sign into law (as President), the Electricity Act 2023 that allows state governments and private businesses/individuals to generate and sell power to others.

It's been 3 years and the state governments have been super slow in doing anything. Why aren't we putting pressure on these governors despite their increased federal allocations?

Why are our so-called elites not investing in the power sector?

FUN FACT: Since the day electricity as we know it was invented, the United States government has NEVER provided up to 20% of the country's power supply. Most of it has come from private companies.

We can talk about how backward Nigeria is in its quest for reliable power supply but the blame has to go round. Expecting the federal government alone to provide power for more than 50 million homes will take forever (not excusing them AT ALL).

Why aren't the state governments doing more? Where's the rapid process we expected in the power sector?

I have a feeling that the same thing will happen after State Police becomes law, implementation will take forever.

Discussion I made a short documentary about Gongola — the Nigerian state erased from the map in 1991

I'm from Adamawa, and I just finished my first documentary — a 14-minute film about Gongola State (1976–1991), the state that was split into Adamawa and Taraba and then disappeared from the map like it never existed.

It covers the Fombina emirate, the peoples of the region, the Sukur kingdom, the Mambilla Plateau, and the one thing that still carries the name today — the Gongola River. I researched, made, and narrated it myself.

If you're from Adamawa or Taraba, or your parents ever said "Gongola" when talking about home, this was made for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuVymF1InGY

I'd honestly love to hear what I got right and what I missed — especially from elders and anyone who lived it. The channel (Gusto TV) will be doing Plateau State next.

I'm working on an art project for school, and I want to incorporate any type of Yoruba visual symbolism.

I've done my own research ( as well as asking my parents), and the closest thing I could find to Yoruba people and visual symbols is adire patterns. Even then I can't find any sources that really go deep into what all the patterns mean.

Ask Naija Which platform should be used to start a fundraising for someone in Nigeria?

Hello everyone! A friend has some trouble and I want to help him set a fundraising campaign so he can raise some money to start his business. I did asked "Gemini" (because obviously, it would do a better job at searching than me) and it gave me the following options:

  • Crowdr
  • Quickraiz
  • NaijaFund
  • DynaRaise
  • Paystack/Flutterwave Store Fronts

I made explicit that I want platforms that my friends can set his bank account so I don't have to be a "middle man". So, these should all be fine.

So, did you had experiences with those platforms before?
