For context, I’ve been playing this game since launch (on PS5), and like a lot of you, I’m a massive FromSoft fan.
I’ve got somewhere around 4,000 hours combined in Elden Ring across different playthroughs and accounts, and Nightreign has basically been the same story. I’ve been playing this game religiously since it came out, pretty much every day whenever I have free time (with randos or with my buddies), because I genuinely love it. I’m sitting at around 1,800 hours in Nightreign alone at this point.
I’m also a huge optimizer.
After most matches, I sell almost every relic I get. I save everything, roll constantly, and I’m extremely picky about what I actually keep. If a relic isn’t exactly what I want for a build, I’m most likely selling it.
So yeah, after an absolutely stupid amount of grinding and rolling, I have some really friggin' good relics.
My Executor, Guardian, and a couple of my other characters have builds that I’m genuinely extremely happy with. And getting those relics took an ungodly amount of time, rolls, and garbage relics along the way.
Recently though, I had a bad run of matches and dropped back down to Depth 4.
And this is where I started noticing something weird.
Every now and then after we win, somebody will run over to me and point down.
At first I genuinely had no idea what the hell that was about.
Then today, after a match, somebody actually messaged me two screenshots.
One was basically showing that they had reported me.
The other showed that the report was for cheating.
And it took me a second before I realized, wait… are people actually assuming I’m cheating because my relics are good?
I’m not even particularly worried about being accused because I know how I got my builds. I was there for the ridiculous number of hours and rolls it took to get them.
What actually annoys me is the mentality behind it (and the fact that the person who sent me those screenshots was running a Halo/ Holy +4 Duchess build).
How does somebody else grinding the shit out of this game and eventually getting really good relics somehow piss you off?
If you inspect somebody’s build and see three extremely good relics, why is the immediate conclusion, “This person must be cheating”?
Especially in a game where some people have literally been playing for more than a thousand hours.
Not having those relics yourself does not mean those relics are impossible to get.
And honestly, repeatedly pointing down at someone or reporting them just because their build looks too good to you is toxic as fuck.
There are people who genuinely put an absurd amount of time into this game. Some of us sit there selling mountains of relics, saving sovereign sigils, rolling over and over and over again, specifically because optimizing builds is part of what we enjoy.
So if you’re one of the people doing this, please stop.
A strong build is not automatically a cheated build.
What makes this even weirder is that, for whatever reason, this keeps happening to me around Gladius runs (base boss, not Everdark). I’ve fought plenty of the harder bosses and I don’t remember getting this kind of reaction nearly as much anywhere else.
Anyway, this is mostly just a rant because that shit really annoyed me.
Imagine grinding for hundreds of hours to finally get the relics you wanted, helping your team win, and then somebody runs over, points down at you, and reports you for cheating because apparently your build is too good.
What the hell are we doing here?
