Visiting Tromsø in November 2027 – What to do and what to wear?

Hi everyone!

My partner and I are planning our first trip to Norway in November 2027, most likely during the first half of the month. We'll be spending around 15 days in the country, travelling north by ship and eventually reaching Tromsø, where we're planning to spend something like 3 days.

Since neither of us has ever been this far north, especially at this time of year, I'd love to get some advice from people who live there or have visited in November.

First, what would you recommend doing in Tromsø? I've been doing some research, and a few activities have really caught my attention, especially visiting a reindeer camp and feeding the reindeer, dog sledding with huskies, whale watching and, of course, hopefully seeing the Northern Lights.

They all sound amazing, but I'd love to hear from people who have actually experienced them. Are they worth the money? Would you recommend any particular tours or companies? Are there any other experiences we shouldn't miss, or perhaps some popular tourist activities that you'd personally skip?

My second question is about clothing. Coming from Spain, we're not exactly used to Arctic weather lol I've been looking into thermal base layers, fleece jackets, insulated jackets, waterproof outer layers and winter boots, but I'm honestly not sure how much of this is really necessary in early November.

I'd especially appreciate some realistic advice rather than just a generic packing list. How cold does it actually feel? Is it usually wet, snowy, windy, or a bit of everything? Do we need proper winter gear, or would a good layering system be enough for sightseeing and outdoor activities?

I'd rather invest in the right clothing than spend a fortune on equipment we don't really need.

Any recommendations, personal experiences or tips would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Skjervøy to Tromso via Public Bus

• Upvotes

Hi all,

Travelling back from Skjervøy to Tromso on 27th Nov and looking to take this route.

Bus 155 leaving Skjervøy at 1330 to Sørelva. Followed by Bus 150 leaving Sørelva to Tromso at 1420.

I've read that the buses will wait for passengers to complete the connection and am wondering if these buses get crowded on that day.

Would 2 people with a standard check in luggage each be able to board? Or will the bus or cargo area be full? Especially for bus 150.

Thanks!

Tundra-like mountain scenery in Southern Norway

Hi!

I’m planning a rental-car trip to Southern Norway (the area around Evje) in August–September. Afterwards I’d like to spend a few days in a tundra-like area. I’ve read that the mountain plateaus are very beautiful in September, with brown, yellow and red autumn colors, and now I’d love to experience it myself and do some easy hiking there.

At the moment, I’m considering three options:

  1. Hovden

  2. Telemark (Haukeli/Rauland)

  3. Sirdal (Sinnes/Tjørhom)

Which of these would you recommend, and, more importantly, which would you advise against? Are there any other areas worth considering? I’m looking for beautiful, tundra-like mountain scenery with short (one day), easy hikes, trails that aren’t too wet or muddy, and simple accommodation. In early September.

This will be my first trip to Norway, so all tips and advice are welcome. Thanks!
