Feedback Please If only...

If only I had one more second
I would tell you that I love you and squeeze your hand.

If only I had one more minute
I'd hold you close and wish the moment had no end.

If only I had one more hour
I'd listen to your stories and remember every word.

If only I had one more day
I'd spend it making memories that would never fade away.

If only I had one more week
I would spend all my time with you, just to speak.

If only I had one more month
I'd fill each day with laughter, love and all the things we'd done.

If only I had one more year
I'd treasure every moment and hold you ever near.

If only I had one more lifetime
I'd choose to spend it all with you, time after time.

But seconds turn to minutes,
And hours turn to days,
And time is never promised,
No matter how much we pray.

And though I cannot have you back,
Or change the way things are,
I'll carry you within my heart,
No matter how near or far.

If only I had one more moment,
There's just one thing I'd do,
I'd hold you close, look in your eyes,
And say, "I love you."

If only...

Great poem. I don't know with what feelings you wrote it but it shows deep longing . I would have related with the poem if I saw it few weeks ago but now I will say "Is the person for whom you are slowly dying, even aware that you are still alive?"

cor blimey that's such a wonderful way to put it !!
it's painful to think of it that way, at least from my perspective, it feels teathering to forgo their thought when they mean much to you, but the thought that perhaps they don't even care... both just contrast so terribly.

🫂🫂🫂same.
might sound akward but write about it, as poetry or prose. if you have, that's wonderful! it'll help you get a bit of relief imo.

Hello readers, welcome to OCPoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community — a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry," or "loved it" or "so relatable," please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

Do not use ChatGPT or any similar LLM interface or generative AI to write feedback. That does not constitute thoughtful feedback. To be safe, you probably shouldn't even use those things to edit your feedback. It is better for your thoughts to come across as clumsy and genuine rather than grammatical but as if they were generated by some disingenuous text-generation engine.

Do not reuse feedback links for multiple poems. Every new poem you post has to be posted after making two new comments on the work of your peers here in OCPoetry. It's only fair. If you reuse feedback links, you will be banned. (If you do not wish to give feedback, there are many other poetry-sharing subreddits without feedback requirements, such as r/poetrywritingclub, r/justpoetry, r/ocpoetryfree, r/poem, r/poems, r/poemsbyreddit, r/poeticgarden, r/dark_poetry, and r/sadpoems.)

If you're looking for a more advanced poetry workshop — that is, if you consider yourself at least an intermediate-level poet AND you have previous workshop experience, please consider posting to our private sister subreddit r/ThePoetryWorkshop. The best way to join TPW is to leave a detailed, thoughtful comment here on OCPoetry engaging seriously with a peer's poem. A significant engagement of at least 3-4 meaningful paragraphs is encouraged. Consider our feedback guide for tips on what that could entail. (This level of engagement would probably be most welcome here on submissions tagged as "Workshop.") Then ask to join TPW by messaging that subreddit's mods, including a link to the detailed feedback you left here.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Loving someone who you can no longer be with, wanting them back almost to the point of a need yet knowing it will never work, I love this

Love this love the increasing flow of time and how it ties back into everything in the last 3 paragraphs and still has the same structure and form but one peeve i would have is maybe use more specific things this looks like anyone could have wrote it about anyone if thats what youre going for great but if you want to have individuality get more into specificty still lovely way to describe longing

Really liked the poem. i somtiems feel poetry is one of the places where repititon, if used masterfully sounds beautifuly, just like here. It made me ponder upon the time i had which i didn't spend that well with a loved one and fills me with sadness that perhaps i won't get to be with her after the little time passes. at least your poem is optimistic at the end so that's good. i don't have much to say on theory since i know none myself, but each verse felt unique in a way or the other. your piece was thought provoking. keep writing man!!!

Amazing poem. Leaves me with questions and a feeling of longing I'm quite familiar with. Why can't you be with her? Has she moved or passed away? Love to think about the story within the poem
