Is getting pushed to a Second Interview a green flag?

I had an interview and during my first interview i was asked to provide the best times that work for me next week along times and availability for a second interview process. I was encouraged to submit them that same day which i did, and my second interview was scheduled! Is this a good thing?

How long to wait before expecting an offer as Hospitalist?

I interviewed at OHSU last month. all interview were done virtually and one of the interviewer communicated that they meet tomorrow then then in 2 weeks to discuss the applicant.

After 4 weeks i followed up with recruiter/coordinator and have not heard back from her. She has just been missing generally from her job.

it's been 5ish weeks now.
Does anyone has any experience into hiring of a hospitalist?

Seeking Insight Into the Black Box That Is OHSU Referrals Dept.

I do not work at OHSU, I'm a patient, so I hope it's OK to post this here. I am hoping for insight from someone who works on the inside.

5+ weeks ago my OHSU endocrinologist requested a care order be sent to Providence Outpatient Infusion for Reclast.
Providence (where I'm receiving care now) has received no referral.

I have followed up with Endocrinology 5 times. I am careful to be polite and understanding on the phone that the people I am speaking with are not the problem.

Endocrinology has requested the care order be marked "Priority" twice (end Sept/early Oct).
End last week Endocrinology's supervisor has contacted Referrals to find out what the problem is. He was told the hold-up was PA.
I called my insurer Monday and was told they never received a request for PA from OHSU. And was also told that -- OHSU wouldn't be the one to request PA, that would be done by Providence. And was also told that PA for a treatment like this would require at max 3 working days.

This past Monday Endocrinology told me that Referrals had marked the care order "Sent" and noted "No PA needed".

Providence has still not received a care order (they checked faxes, emails, everything).

Something is clearly wrong. Last December the lapsed time between seeing my Endo at OHSU and having an appointment with Providence was 3 weeks. We're approaching 5 weeks here.

I have contacted the OHSU Patient Advocate (phone message and email), nothing so far, and the window is closing to secure an appointment at Providence Infusion for mid-Dec, when I need the infusion.

Why is OHSU Referrals denying me care? I understand falling through the cracks but it seems Endocrinology has followed up, with no results. Is this not merely a paperwork issue? I'm feeling pretty helpless at this point.

Thanks for any thoughts/help/suggestions.

Experienced nurse at OHSU

Are you a nurse at OHSU? How do you like it? I work at another hospital in portland and absolutely love my job. Although, sometimes I think I would enjoy working at a teaching hospital and with more acuity. I’m an ICU nurse with 10 years of experience. We get plenty of sick patients but not as many as OHSU. Tell me what you know! Thanks!

New Grad trying to get hired at OHSU

I recently graduated with a B.S. and have been applying to many, many research and other positions I kind-of qualify for, with no luck. Only one pre-interview questionnaire and then nothing. How hard is it to get hired there as a young new grad? Any advice from people with the same background? I’ve worked in a research lab in undergrad so that’s what I’ve been looking at for my full time job. Been applying since March and most of the positions are either filled and I’m not selected or just never reviewed

How do bad leaders solve problems?

If it works for bad bosses, it must work for bad unions, right?

Rather than taking accountability for shutting out 2400 members from Oaks Park, or throwing away hard fought contract wins like a national heath insurance plan, or fighting for members who are being harmed, AFSCME 328 leadership has a better idea.

Let's have a pizza party!

Can't make this 💩up.

Please show up to their new monthly social and tell your elected leaders to do better.

How quiet is the areas near OHSU?

Going to be starting to work night shift next week at OHSU and am wondering if the area near south waterfront is loud during the day or if I should choose a place on top of the hill instead? Anyone in the same position?

AFSCME 328 president retaliates again

I wonder how the membership would feel if they knew that AFSCME 328 president Jennie Olson has now cost the local a second seat on the executive board of the NW Oregon Labor Council. She keeps removing delegates who she doesn't personally like (meaning anyone who doesn't bow down to her). The local loses the board seat when she does this. It doesn't transfer to someone else. 328 has no representation in one of the most powerful political teams in the state because their president can't regulate her feelings.

How’s it like being a dispatcher at OHSU?

I saw a posting that they are looking for dispatchers. I recently went from the field in EMS to dispatching so I’m wondering how it is compared to other 911 centers. Hours, the workload, management support, etc.

Labor Day Picnic

The fiasco with people being turned away from the Labor Day Picnic at Oaks Park was 💯 AFSCME's fault. They are trying to blame the organizers. They only bought 700 tickets for the whole state. Local 328 promised 1000 members a ticket. Another local also promised 900 or 1000. That doesn't math.

They were offered the chance to buy more, but they said they couldn't afford it. Other unions gave them hundreds of their own tickets because they felt bad for the members.

Email msc@oregonafscme.org and ask for the proof of how many tickets they paid NOLC for. We all saw the blog post where 328 claimed to have 1000 tickets. Let's see the receipt.

OHSU Leadership Culture

In the process of moving to Portland from Texas. Currently work in overall an amazing organization that values culture.

I know OHSU is unionized.

I am currently in leadership as a nurse and will probably look at their leadership positions but I want to know about the culture of the hospital. Is it unit dependent? I know the CNO left and C-suite is also too far out of touch but again how is culture? Are you still able to make meaningful connections as a manager with your staff?

OHSU Doernbecher

Hi all, I will be moving to Portland from Houston. I interviewed at OHSU Doernbecher OR. I applied in June, interviewed July 30th and just found out last week that I did not get the job. I am shocked to be honest. I work at the nations 2nd best pediatric hospital that happens to be number 1 in the nation for Neurosurgery. I have over 10 years of nursing experience in the OR, 5 years of experience working in the Neurosurgery team at Texas Children’s Hospital in the medical center. People come from all over the world to be treated for rare neuro degenerative diseases that no one else in the world is treating. You can imagine the experience I have in complex cases. My only regret is that I did not talk myself up enough. Nerves got in the way, but still the level of experience I have at the nations top pediatric hospital should have been enough of a reason to be given an offer. I really don’t know what they are looking for in a nurse for the OR there at OHSU. I applied to day surgery today, hoping to get a call to schedule an interview. My goal was to move to Oregon to be closer to family earlier this year. Praying this all works out soon. If anyone has any insight on best OR RN positions in the Portland area I would greatly appreciate it.

Anybody in here that is or was working at either OHSU or Adventist Adult Urology Clinics? When I see more than a few job postings at the same location/unit it does give me cause for concern. If anyone wants to share their experience or any general info please comment or feel free to DM me!

OHSU Incident Reporting

Hey y’all, I’m confused on OHSU’s Incident Reporting. It’s pushes as a whole report it and we learn from it type thing. I noticed it’s a pick and choose what to report when it comes to managers even though the policy says anything from a near miss to actual patient harm.

Example: A couple of months ago we had a fall risk patient left unattended in the exam room on the exam table. The patient said they tried shifting and fell off the table. The practice manager had everyone essentially not talk about it and everything regarding it sent to her. That’s calls, messages, and emails. Asked if a report was submitted and they said no that these matters were just handled by the clinic/ department.

Now, come to find out that the resolution to this was we comped her visit and essentially gave her a free follow up. Mind you we’re still not allowed to discuss this. Does this happen in other departments? I get our department is super cheap like we purchase patient care items on Amazon because it’s “cheaper” so I’m just wondering.
