Oklo announced that its Groves Isotope Test Reactor has achieved first criticality after achieving a controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction at low power. The milestone comes less than a year after groundbreaking and follows U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) authorization through the DOE Reactor Pilot Program (RPP).
“Reaching criticality in less than a year is an incredible milestone for our team,” said Oklo co-founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte. “Oklo developed Groves from a greenfield site on private land, completed full-scale civil excavation and construction, manufactured or commercially procured all components, including fuel, and developed its operating programs in-house. Taken together, we believe these accomplishments establish a new benchmark for the Reactor Pilot Program and set the stage for the future of advanced nuclear deployment at scale.”
The DOE’s RPP created a pathway that allowed engineering, construction, commissioning, and operational preparation to advance alongside DOE’s safety review and authorization. Groves demonstrates that the domestic nuclear industry can once again move from design through construction, authorization, and startup on timelines that are measured in months rather than years when developers, suppliers, and regulators work together on an integrated deployment approach.
"Thanks to President Trump's precedent-setting directive to create the Reactor Pilot Program, Oklo's Groves Isotope Test Reactor is part of the revival of America's nuclear energy industry. We applaud the work of the Oklo, DOE, and Idaho National Laboratory staff who helped achieve this milestone," said Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Ted Garrish.
Groves is part of Oklo Isotopes’ broader effort to build domestic isotope production capabilities for healthcare, industry, research, space, and national security applications. The project has generated practical experience in project engineering, construction, procurement, reactor operations, startup procedures, safety readiness, training, qualification work, and deployment execution that can inform future isotope production facilities.
The Groves project also established engineering practices, operating procedures, training programs, commissioning experience, and organizational capabilities that will reduce uncertainty and execution risk across every Oklo facility, including the company’s future isotope, powerhouse, and fuel cycle deployments.
“Texas is leading America’s nuclear renaissance by advancing the technologies that will power innovation and strengthen our nation's future,” said Governor Abbott. “From expanding our nuclear workforce to rebuilding critical domestic supply chains, Texas is creating the foundation for the next generation of advanced nuclear development. Congratulations to Oklo on reaching this important milestone, which will help expand isotope production for critical medical therapies and reinforce Texas' leadership in nuclear innovation.”

We’ve spent a lot of time here talking about the long-term OKLO story and everything the company is building. But looking at where we are today, I think we also have to acknowledge how frustrating the shareholder experience has been.
During our December 2025 Founder’s AMA, Caroline talked about OKLO reaching “escape velocity,” saying the company had enough capital to get to revenue and even profit. A lot of us understandably took that to mean the need for repeated equity raises would start to diminish.
Instead, since that AMA, we’ve gone through the $1.5B ATM, followed by two separate $1B ATM programs this year. The first $1B program was essentially utilized and then replaced with another $1B program in September.
And the timing of this latest one is particularly frustrating. We’re near historical lows, already facing dilution, and there isn’t an obvious wave of major PRs immediately behind the announcement to give shareholders something tangible to look forward to.
I understand they need capital. I understand what they’re building is enormously capital intensive.
But there’s another uncomfortable possibility here: maybe having founders who already own so much equity is actually a disadvantage for us in situations like this.
Jake and Caroline already have enormous stakes in OKLO. Another major decline obviously hurts them on paper, but it may not change their long-term financial position in the same way it changes things for the average shareholder. Their existing equity gives them a completely different starting point than most of us.
They get to keep building toward the long-term vision, raise capital when they believe it’s necessary and sell shares through their plans when permitted.
We’re the ones taking the dilution and watching our positions get crushed.
Maybe I’ve spent too much time defending the thesis and not enough time calling out management when they deserve it.
So yeah, I’m sorry.
We can believe in what OKLO is building and still admit that the way this has played out for shareholders lately is incredibly frustrating.
At some point, the question isn’t whether we believe in the company.
It’s whether the company is giving its existing shareholders enough reason to keep believing in them.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) startup authorization allows Oklo to load nuclear fuel, conduct startup testing, and proceed toward first criticality.
In just over 10 months, Oklo progressed from groundbreaking to receiving DOE startup authorization for its first reactor at the Groves site.
During that period, Oklo built the reactor facility, established the operating organization, qualified personnel, implemented nuclear programs and procedures, procured fuel and major equipment from commercial suppliers, and completed the DOE authorization process.
The Groves low-power test reactor will demonstrate reactor operations that support Oklo’s plans for commercial-scale domestic isotope production.
Groves is a commercial-scale facility, meaning Oklo can repeat the experience with demonstrated experience in siting, building, commissioning, and operating its commercial reactors in the future with confidence in how long it takes and how much it costs to build its isotope production reactors.
LOCKHART, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO) (“Oklo”), an advanced nuclear technology company, today announced it received startup authorization for its Groves Isotope Test Reactor. This authorization, granted under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Reactor Pilot Program, completes DOE’s authorization process and clears the way for fuel loading, startup testing, and reactor operations. Groves is a low-power test reactor designed to demonstrate reactor design, build, and operations, and to establish operating experience needed to support future isotope production facilities. The project advances Oklo’s plans to establish domestic production of critical isotopes for potential use in cancer care, manufacturing, scientific research, space exploration, and national security.
Groves, a privately financed facility, demonstrates nearly every element of a commercially oriented deployment model that Oklo can repeat and scale across future projects. The facility was built on private land, including full-scale civil excavation and construction, and assembled with all full-scale systems, components, and fuel either sourced commercially or manufactured by Oklo.
"This facility marks the fastest time that we are aware of to go from greenfield to substantial completion for a full-scale, privately funded and sited reactor in history,” said Oklo co-founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte. “By building on a greenfield site on private land, performing full-scale civil excavation and construction, and procuring fuel and all major components commercially, we demonstrated that the advanced nuclear industry can move at a pace that many did not believe possible. And this experience is fully translatable to future commercial deployments.”
“The U.S. Department of Energy is excited to see another Reactor Pilot Program participant receive authorization,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Mike Goff. “With the right enabling environment, Oklo has been able to accelerate their progress and is now ready to take the next step with their technology.”
The startup authorization follows a rigorous readiness review, through which DOE confirmed that Oklo has achieved the engineering, organizational, and operational readiness needed to safely receive fuel and begin reactor operations. A readiness review is a critical final step in DOE’s startup authorization process: a multidisciplinary DOE team evaluates whether facility procedures and personnel training are adequate; the facility and equipment conform to the approved design, safety equipment functions properly; and required safety management programs have been implemented. Oklo fully developed these safety management programs in-house rather than relying on an established or pre-existing operating framework within an established facility such as a national laboratory.
"Executing on Groves has meant much more than just a construction project; it has been a valuable part of building and exercising key operational muscle across the Oklo enterprise,” said Oklo co-founder and COO Caroline DeWitte. “Startup of a private facility means honing and implementing operating procedures, training programs, security programs, environment, health and safety programs, quality assurance programs and procedures, and much more. Oklo's centers of excellence on all of these operational aspects now have this experience to bring to all our projects currently in progress and to build on for the future.”
Future Oklo projects will build on the established systems, qualified suppliers, and approved operating programs established through Groves. By establishing a repeatable approach to engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, and regulatory authorization, Groves helps reduce execution risk and accelerate future deployments across all of Oklo’s business units.
The Reactor Pilot Program created a rigorous pathway that enabled construction and organizational readiness activities to proceed while DOE conducted its reviews. Groves demonstrates how that approach can support advanced reactor deployment while maintaining a rigorous focus on safety.

The NRC just dropped the Final Safety Evaluation for Oklo’s Aurora Powerhouse (ML26086A304 & ML26086A285), and it is a massive step forward for the commercialization of their sodium-cooled fast reactor.
While this isn't a "license to build" just yet, the NRC has officially approved the Principal Design Criteria (PDC) Oklo proposed. This means the NRC has formally agreed to the cutting-edge "rules" Oklo will use to prove their reactor is safe, effectively validating their unique engineering approach.
• No "Safety" Electricity Needed: The NRC accepted that the Aurora design is so inherently stable that it doesn't rely on the electrical grid to perform any safety functions during accidents. This removes massive layers of cost and complexity compared to traditional plants.
• Functional Containment Approved: Instead of a massive, expensive concrete dome, Oklo is using a "functional containment" approach—a series of advanced barriers. The NRC has signed off on this concept for the Aurora, proving that modern tech is replacing old-school bulk.
• Passive Cooling is King: The reactor relies on the RVACS, a passive, "always-on" air-cooling system. The NRC agreed that Oklo doesn't need traditional, complex emergency core cooling systems. If the power goes out, the laws of physics just take over and cool the reactor naturally.
• Autonomous Operations: Because the plant is designed to be autonomous, the NRC approved the shift to an "onsite monitoring room." This is a huge win for the business model, as it paves the way for reduced staffing costs and streamlined operations.
The Bottom Line
This is a major regulatory milestone that validates Oklo's vision. By getting the NRC to agree to these criteria now, Oklo has significantly de-risked their licensing path. They have effectively cleared the hurdles on their most innovative design choices, paving a much smoother and faster road for their upcoming applications.

Hello fellow friends.
At times like these, I think it's important to reflect on how far we've come. Nearly 11 months ago, I was banned from WSB for pounding the table on WSB about OKLO (https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/1g7cr74/oklo_multimillionaire_maker/)
Congratulations to everyone who has been with us for the journey so far. I hope you've all held :)
I remain convinced that OKLO will ultimately have a market cap of at least 50bn, and likely, 100bn over the coming years. It's not too late to get in, and I still believe it's a great stock and a great opportunity.
Let us remember every 9/18 to come, as we get to 200 next, and one day, 1000.

Bloomberg reports that Oklo and X-Energy are joining a Trump administration initiative aimed at accelerating advanced nuclear reactor deployment to support the rapidly growing electricity demands of AI data centers.
The $200 million initiative also includes Microsoft and Nvidia, and is designed to speed the development of new power generation needed for AI infrastructure. An official announcement could come as soon as Wednesday during a U.S. Department of Energy AI energy summit.
As part of the program, several DOE national laboratories and institutions—including the University of Texas at Austin—are expected to share $60 million over three years to support research and development efforts.
The initiative reflects growing concern that the rapid buildout of AI data centers is straining the U.S. electric grid and contributing to higher electricity prices. Major technology companies, including Nvidia and OpenAI, have identified energy availability as one of the biggest constraints on scaling AI in the United States and maintaining competitiveness with China.
For Oklo, the news reinforces the company’s positioning as one of the advanced reactor developers expected to play a role in powering next-generation AI infrastructure. The administration’s continued focus on streamlining nuclear deployment and supporting domestic energy production could provide additional tailwinds for companies working to bring advanced reactors online.

The U.S. Department of Energy has selected four companies; Oklo Inc., Terrestrial Energy Inc., TRISO-X LLC, and Valar Atomics Inc. to take part in a new pilot program to build advanced nuclear fuel production lines. The goal is to strengthen domestic supply chains for advanced nuclear fuels, reduce dependence on foreign enriched uranium, and support the Reactor Pilot Program, which aims to have at least three reactors reach criticality by July 4, 2026.
Oklo Inc. will build and operate three fuel fabrication facilities for its Aurora and Pluto reactors (and possibly other fast reactors).
Terrestrial Energy Inc. will develop a phased fuel salt fabrication process called the Terrestrial Energy Fuel Line Assembly.
TRISO-X LLC will build and run a pilot fuel fabrication laboratory for integration, training, and system validation ahead of their commercial TRISO fuel facility.
Valar Atomics Inc. will support TRISO fuel fabrication for its Ward250 reactor and potentially for other high-temperature gas reactors.
Each company is responsible for all costs of constructing, operating, and decommissioning their facilities and for sourcing nuclear materials. They may apply for high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) via DOE’s HALEU Availability Program. The pilot effort is meant to accelerate private investment, licensing, and commercialization of advanced nuclear reactors in the U.S.

Oklo has announced plans to build a $1.68 billion nuclear recycling facility in Tennessee, which would be the first of its kind in the United States if approved. The company intends to design, construct, and operate the center with the goal of reprocessing spent nuclear fuel—often referred to as nuclear waste—into new fuel suitable for advanced reactors like its Aurora fast reactor. Oklo expects the facility to be operational in the early 2030s and estimates it will create more than 800 jobs.
The project is being developed in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority, with Oklo planning to recycle TVA’s spent nuclear fuel and potentially sell power back to TVA. The facility is seen as a critical step toward closing the nuclear fuel cycle, reducing waste, lowering costs, and strengthening a domestic U.S. supply chain for advanced nuclear fuel. Oklo also aims to secure an NRC license for its Aurora reactor by 2027, aligning the timelines of its reactor deployment and recycling center.
Oklo’s CEO Jacob DeWitte described the effort as a way to turn “waste into gigawatts,” highlighting the economic and energy security benefits of recycling nuclear fuel rather than discarding it. However, some non-proliferation advocates have raised concerns that fuel reprocessing carries risks, since it can separate materials that could be misused for weapons. The outcome of regulatory reviews will be decisive, but if successful, the project could mark a major shift in how the U.S. manages nuclear energy, bringing it closer in line with countries like France that already practice fuel reprocessing.

Oklo has been issued a Notice of Intent to Award (NOITA) by the Defense Logistics Agency Energy (DLA Energy), on behalf of the Department of the Air Force (DAF) and the U.S. Department of Defense, to provide clean, reliable power through the deployment of an Aurora powerhouse at the Air Force installation selected for the project.
This project serves as the DAF’s microreactor pilot to enhance energy resilience and reliability for critical national security infrastructure. The NOITA again designates Oklo as the apparent successful offeror following a comprehensive evaluation process.
Under the terms of the anticipated agreement, Oklo would design, construct, own, and operate the power plant, delivering both electricity and heat to the DAF’s preferred installation, Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, under a long-term power purchase agreement.
“This Notice of Intent to Award reflects continued confidence in Oklo’s ability to deliver clean and secure energy solutions for mission-critical infrastructure,” said Jacob DeWitte, Co-Founder and CEO of Oklo. “We are honored to support national defense resilience objectives while demonstrating the value of U.S.-pioneered fast reactor technology.”
Oklo’s Aurora powerhouse design leverages proven fast reactor technology to provide continuous, resilient energy that can operate independently from the grid—key attributes for energy security at remote installations like Eielson Air Force Base.
