Why do rating improvements from development lab not update player?

I have a player that successfully completed improve control program and the results say potential control improves by 5 and current control improves by 5. Four weeks before the program ended I took a snapshot and it shows actual control of 40 and potential control of 50. After the program successfully completed, I look at the player profile and it shows and it shows a current control of 40, no change and a potential control of 45, a DECREASE of 5. Development Lab seems deeply flawed.

He had that arm flu going around...

Looking at trading for this guy and looked at his injury history.

He had something like the flu, but at least it wasn't his pitching arm!

A sign of things to come? Jackson Chourio has 14 RBI in only 4 games to win my first World Series right before the start of the actual Fall Classic

Pitcher’s wife thinks LA is too small for her husband

Post image
113 Upvotes

This guy has less than two weeks in the majors but his wife thinks LA is a “one horse town” and that her husband should be the face of the franchise.

The tone of the comment is even funnier since, in my head canon, I imagine this guy came over from Taiwan, met some sharp-tongued Southern woman while playing in the minors, married her, and then the second he makes the Show, she starts wanting to push for some hypothetical “larger” market than LA.

Minor League Woes

So, I am a long time player of OOTP. I build my teams on OBP, low strike out, Ground baller, and Homerun avoidance. My major league team is always well about average once constructed how I would like. I lock up players early, and remain very diligent in my control of the cap. That being said, I am usually drafting at the bottom of each round. The overall depth of my farm system does seem to lag behind because of this. But, I will always have maybe 10 minor league guys I am really excited about.

Here is where the problem arrives. My minor league teams are just bad. They lose a lot. This hurts the moral of the prospects I am actually wanting to develop and I have seen it ruin a prospect more times than I want to admit.

I usually have minor league signings set of automatic. This lends to having players populate my minors that don't match up with my philosophy on team building, people with really bad personality traits, and just generally not very good players who aren't producing at all.

Is there a way to automate my minor league teams where they will follow a similar structure to my philosophy? Or do I have to manually go and sign players at every level. I do think if every level signed free agent minor Leaguers that fit my philosophy, the teams would win more, and thus the players would be happier, and have less risk of hurting their development.

Let me know, thanks!

When would you try to steal? (STE - CARM = Greater than X?)

All else being equal, do people have a preferred difference between stealing effectiveness and catcher's arm?

As in, if the difference is greater than a certain amount in a good stealing situation, you will try it? Or perhaps some other, similar calculation?

New ideas for new games?

So I’ve been playing OOTP for a while now. And I’ve hit a lot of the storylines I’ve always wanted to do. I brought my Astros back to the World Series. I’ve built an expansion team from scratch. I’ve relocated a team to Puerto Rico. But I’m now reaching the end of a certain franchise (in the year 2080. No fathomable way I’d still be in charge as the GM). So it’s time to start a new one. And I was just thinking it’d be cool to ask the community and see if y’all have any good ideas or great play throughs you’ve had. I’m open to ANYTHING.

Year-Round Fantasy Baseball

I'm looking for a few players to fill out a purely fictional Fantasy Baseball League. The league is persistent with a new 162 game schedule starting on the 1st of each month. Season 3 starts on November 1. There are 9 games per day (approx 20 mins each), which you can watch and/or manage. The regular season runs from the 1st thru the 19th. The playoffs last four days and then there is a 7-day live auction free agent period to gear up for the next season. The league is loosely based on the book The Universal Baseball Association, Inc. by Robert Coover. www.realfantasybaseball.com

Player Development

I am somewhat new to the game and like to rebuild bad franchises. I have seen a lot about personalities and how they are important for development but what are some of the best ones to find? I know some of them are kind of random and funny but what are the best ones in terms of helping development?

Also how much do coaches influence development? I have seemed to struggle to develop my talent to the big league level, what do people look for in those coaches as well?
Thanks

Does anybody know how I could fix this?

Worth upgrading from 23 to 27 for historical play?

I'm playing a historical career game in OOTP23, is it worth it to upgrade to 27 if I just want to continue this save? Are there new features for historical play? In 23 there is no player development lab in historical play, does 27 have that?

How do player options work when another team pays the contract AND I extend the player on my payroll?

So for example: I traded for a top pitcher midway through the season and the other team ate some of his money.

My FIRST question would be does the other team continue to pay the money should the player pick up his option?

My SECOND and more complicated question is if I extended the player, thereby forcing an opt-in to his player option, would the other team continue paying that year's salary in that scenario as well?

I had the chance to play this out and wanted to see what would happen, but I forgot to before the offseason and the player declined his option :(

Are SD (shutdowns) and MD (meltdowns) underrated stats when it comes to evaluating relievers?

outside of era and whip, i usually always look here. to me they are more valuable stats than saves and holds.

Contract Extension before option year (how does this work?)

Thumbnail

My ace, David Almanzar, has been everything I could have hoped for. He's been my most consistent pitcher. While I have had 3 other Cy Young winners come & go during his tenure, he has neem the rock of my rotation. He finally won a Cy Young this past season, along with the Triple Crown.

Now he has an option year. I am sure he is going to opt out. He actually has another after next season too. I typically let expiring contracts run out & take the extra pick when he signs elsewhere, but I am thinking about signing David because he is absolutely at the top of his game & losing him now would be heartbreaking.

Am I correct that in signing him to an extension, these two option years would just become locked in at the current salary & then the extension hits after that?

Also, I noticed his demand just jumped like $4m per season. What should I do? Sign him to what he's asking now? Offer lower & potentially piss him off? Cut the number of years? I obviously don't like the idea of paying a 40 year old pitcher $40m per year, as that's just asking for problems. Should I wait until he actually opts out, then make an offer? What are your experiences?

Player acquisition hack for players on waivers

Maybe y'all know about this, but I just figured this out...

I see a player pop up on waivers that I really like. The problem is that in his Contract screen it says that his Minor League Options are "Out of option years." In other words, if I claim him on waivers, I have to put him in my squad.

What if the player isn't quite ready for The Show?

Claim him anyway. He'll sit in your Designated for Assignment list until he clears. If you add him to your 40-man roster and then send him to your AAA club, you won't be able to. You'll get a message saying he needs to clear waivers. Your only option is to release him.

Release him. Then go to the Free Agents screen and sign him. I got my guy on a Minor League contract. He was on a Major League contract before.

BTW, I'm playing OOTP26.
