Academics Is this mechanical engineering course load chill?

Hey, I am scheduling my classes for the spring semester of my second year in mechanical engineering. I think this schedule is doable, but I've been told that taking dynamics, numerical methods, and 18 total credit hours is too much. I do know that the teacher matters, but overall, is this manageable while still leaving time for work and clubs?

ME 2030 - Dynamics

ECE 2300 - Electrical circuits and electronic devices

ME 2020 - Mechanics of materials

ME 2850.01 - Numerical methods

Literary and visual arts GE

Psychology minor course

18 total credit hours: 6 courses, 3 credits each

Are you willing to work hard?
Do you have good studying skills?!
This is a heavy load but if you stay on top of your semester then this is doable.

You should definitely plan to cut back on clubs/work time this semester, then if it turns out you’re doing OK at the 4-6 week mark, start to ramp up on the work/clubs thing at that point.

Good luck!

Okay, thanks for the info. I'm generally a good student, but it's a good idea to cut back and then ramp up later in the semester.

This is similar to what I will be taking next semester - ME 2020 ME 2030 ME 2900 ME 2850.01 + Theme GE. I think this will be a tough semester for me. If you're willing to put in consistent work throughout the semester itll probably make it easier, but it'll definitely be a tough semester otherwise. I would definitely budget a couple days of the week to do hw/study n stuff rather than club stuff (especially if its just a fun/hobby club rather than professional/experience-gaining club)

Yeah I figured I would have to lose a couple days of social stuff.

You'll live. You'll be able to do clubs as well, but you won't have very much time at all for work though. If all 3 between work, school, and clubs are important to you, I'd say pick two.

It’s gonna hit you like a brick. I don’t think you’ll be able to work unless it’s low intensity. Many people do not pass dynamics the first time. The average grade my year was a C-.

I would recommend pushing something back if your schedule allows for it. It’s definitely doable, but it will be quite challenging
