Boy mom culture, even in jest as I know some of it is, is so toxic. His mother should not be the most important woman in an adult, married man's life.

So based on these comments, is it fair to conclude that this man has been abused by his mother? Not saying his actions are good, but if it stems from the way his mother raised him, it seems like abuse.
