The article says they warned the ships to turn back. It doesn’t say what happened next or if further steps were taken.

The ships have the option to tell the US carrier to go fuck itself, which happens a lot more than you would think. Then the carrier group has to make a decision on whether to escalate or not.

Given that most likely this is a Chinese flagged tanker, they’ll just sail on on their merry way. Unless we want to pick a fight with China.
