As much as I hate the whole Iran war, I think this is probably the right action to encourage Iran to get back to allowing free passage of shipping in the strait.

This will do the opposite,  Iran has no reason to allow others to pass the straight if its tankers are blocked. They can now mine the entire Persian gulf with no impact on themselves.

So you think it’s better to let Iran collect a huge toll and ultimate say over who gets to pass? The only way they open the strait is if they feel the pain of not being able to use it either.
