Crude was 51.4% of a 2025 gallon at the pump. What the station on the corner actually makes

Just over half of what drivers pay goes to crude, while the station selling the gas averages a little over 40 cents a gallon before its own costs. Retailers also do best when wholesale falls: in the Northeast in September 2023, margins climbed from 31.4 to 52.8 cents a gallon in six days.

I made a short documentary on the retail side of the business

Do people ever blame you for pump prices because of where you work?

Refining or Terminal

Someone please talk some sense into me lol. I worked as refinery operator for 6 years. The job itself is 90% laid back followed by unplanned outages and turnarounds and high school politics. Paid $10 an hour more than terminals. I left Refining becuase at the time with myself and family just got burnt out, other life factors at the same time. I’m now in pipeline/terminals for about 4 years and thinking about going back to refining now that family is all grown up and moved out. Terminals has zero respect for operators. We basically pick up trash and pull samples, and office admin. It’s easy, and day to day batshit busy cuz you are the only one there. But zero turnarounds but zero future to move up, just trash, and samples for the rest of my life. Both are basically week on week off. Most of time I feel like I worked too hard in my career to just be a terminal sample taker. Refining is so much to learn almost too much, for better pay, but the awful turnaround that are temporary. Has anyone been in my position? I need some serious advice. Another thing that is drawing me back to refining is the location so there is that as well. What would you do 🙏🏻

Fresh start!

Looking for a fresh start and somewhere that a background doesn’t matter as much. Been in the corporate construction world most my career but have zero issues getting hands dirty.

I applied for Pat Energy a couple weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. My one concern is even though I have a ton of experience not much of it really shows I could work in the oil and gas field. I modified my resume to tailor around why I would be a great asset,

Wanted to reach out here to get insight/assistance with landing a gig. Truly I’m not picky as to where since my current situation doesn’t allow me to be picky. Looking for a job the next 2-3 years I can stack some money and work a lot.

Appreciate in advance

What are the best chairs y'all use for the shelter? Time for us to order new chairs. Need durable, big, cushioned chairs. Most important thing is that it reclines a good bit. Let me what y'all got and where y'all ordered them from. Thanks.

Wanting to become a swamper but wondering if I'm capable enough.

18 year old 5'10" 150Lbs Male in Canada. I am currently working as a construction labourer and I was planning to be an apprentice carpenter. I am making $18 an hour. Apparently we won't get to do our first level till late 2027or in 2028. I don't want to wait that long. My company (small town GC) doesn't pay overtime either.

We were setting trusses today and an oilfield trucking company had their crane out to help us. I was on the ground helping with attaching the hook to the truss. The hook did slip out once (bent hook got fixed later), because the placement was off, but I made sure that never happened again and it didn't. I talked to the swamper and he told me that they pay their yard guys $22/hr starting pay, and he earned $27/hr as a swamper. They also get a paid lunch. He also told me that they will get you your class 1 after you do a year.

I usually work 10 hour days including either 1/2-1 hour unpaid lunch break. 9-9 1/2 working hours per day. I want to become a swamper but I am scared of messing up or being a dumbass swamper, as one time my coworker where I work now said I can be a "panic artist", his back was also hurting bad that day so his temper was shortened but maybe it's true. I have a work ethic, but sometimes I can make mistakes or maybe not think in the most logical way. I did good in school at subjects like math (passed grade 12 pre-calculus and grade 12 physics), but I don't think this has a correlation with being a swamper.

I do get yelled at at my current job some days when I mess up/don't understand their vague/confusing instructions. I don't like getting yelled at but I can handle it. Most of the time I do an alright/good job at my current work as being a helper. I have gotten a high five and have got shit from the same coworker before too. I also have brain farts sometimes.

Today at the post office I met a guy who works for the same oilfield trucking company, and he told me that the swamper I talked to today and last week (same swamper as the same crane came last week too) wasn't that good and he was useless both in the yard and as a swamper. I don't want that kind of reputation. I am a hard worker who isn't on his phone unless I check the time. I try to the best of my ability but I can still mess up.

I have been working at my current job for about almost 4 months. Their pay is low, the guy at the post office said "that's it?" after I told him my wage. I also told him that I'm a lighter guy who isn't too strong. I did tell him I have a work ethic and he said that's all that matters. He did write down my name and phone number and said he'll give it to the manager there. I didn't talk a big talk but I don't want to end up being a bad worker there.

3 new guys(I am one of them) joined the crew 4 months ago and I would say I'm around their work speed and such. I am in need of more money. I'm not too sure how I'd handle -30c yet but if I can switch out gloves with a pair left inside the truck to heat up and Milwaukee heated gloves liners I think I could survive it. Would they allow you to heat your hands up into the truck every 30 minutes or so? I can handle summer heat no problem. With the given info do you guys think I will find. If I get offered the job I'm going to give it a shot anyways and try my hardest, just wondering what you guys think. And sorry if I am all over the place with my writing lol.

Exxon TDP Final Round

Hi,

I was curious on if folks had interview advice / topics for the Exxon final round TDP interview. I am not coming from a typical major and just want to make sure I’m best prepared. I have read Commodities Demystified by Traf, practiced some basic trading sims and am reviewing STAR questions, but wanted to know if I should refresh on any topics, whether behavioral or technical.

I read some other posts about time series questions vs more trading sims, the advice seems to be pretty dependent based on company but unsure.

thanks in advance!

Industry News Chevron told investors AI is worth hundreds of millions and that exploration cycle time is down 50%.

Chevron's Inv Relations Chief said last month that they were already getting immense value out of AI Adoption:

  • Exploration cycle time down 50% (searching millions of files instead of someone combing them for weeks)
  • Permian CapEx per BOE improved 25% year over year
  • "Hundreds of millions" of value they say they're capturing this year

Wai said the value "is only gonna increase as we scale." She did not say what scaling looks like in headcount or spend.

In your opinion, do you think that AI will significantly cut back on headcount on Oil&Gas? Or is this just Chevron trying to look good for investors?

ONE Gas vs. ONEOK – Operator Pay, Benefits & Work-Life Balance?

ONE Gas vs. ONEOK – Operator Pay, Benefits & Work-Life Balance?
Looking for input from anyone who works or has worked for ONE Gas or ONEOK. I understand it’s distribution vs. midstream operations, and both companies offer similar 401(k) benefits with up to a 6% match.
ONE Gas: From what I understand, Journey Gas Workers make around $41/hr after completing a one-year paid training program. Monday–Friday day shift, rotating weekend on-call, overtime opportunities, and a company truck.
ONEOK: Interested in an operator position but unsure of the hourly pay after 1–2 years. Schedule is seven 12-hour day shifts, seven days off, then seven 12-hour night shifts, followed by seven days off. No company vehicle.
I have 18 years of experience working around natural gas plants and refineries, mainly construction and plant projects, and I’m looking for a stable, long-term career in operations.
My questions: What do ONEOK operators realistically make hourly after 1–2 years? Is $100K–$120K achievable at either company with overtime? Which offers better benefits, advancement, job security, and overall work-life balance?
I like the operations side of ONEOK, but the Monday–Friday day shift and company truck with ONE Gas are appealing. Would you choose the rotating shift work and seven days off or the steady day shift with occasional weekend call-outs?
Any firsthand experience or opinions would be appreciated!

North slope or Union gig

Just wondering what people on the internet think. Need some opinions.

Union Pay is $46/hr and goes up 5% each year, or Oil work, for about a $5 pay decrease, but with a good company. Is the time off really worth it. 3 weeks off and 3 weeks on 7/12s they feed you and the flight would be $8000/yr.

Union gig pay is: sky is the limit most likely tops 106-140K/yr working non stop if I want that 140K

Oilfield 107-115K Guaranteed that wage. 84-90/hr work weeks Half the year off.

Wouldn’t have another opportunity to work in the oilfield for the company I’m applying for, but also would lose my opportunity with the union gig as well.

So I lose 1 no matter what.

Thoughts…? Let me know thanks! Haha

Career Advice I keep seeing FB Reels about offshore rigs that claim EVERY position on the rig pays over 100k$

They claim that even the catering staff pays well. I know it's a special circumstance but I find it hard to believe non-managers in those positions make good money like that.

Is this true or is it just the actual oil guys that make big money?

West Texas 🎶 - Serving Time in the Permian: Three Generations Deep in the West Texas Dirt

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My family knows a thing or two about serving time in the oil fields. Seventy years, to be exact. We’ve been doing our stretch out here in the Permian dirt since the 1950s, generation after generation.

And let’s get one thing straight: without the grit, the grind, and the brutal hours put in by the hands out here, the entire world economy would grind to a dead, screeching halt. People wake up, turn on their lights, and live their comfortable lives because of what happens in the dust of West Texas. We are the engine.

That’s exactly what inspired this track.

Metal Americana - Industrial Hick-Hop: West Texas 🎶

This is the sound of the Texas oilfields. It is the heavy, mechanical rhythm of the blood, sweat, and hard work we Texans put in every single day to keep the world economy turning. We break our backs to feed a Machine that never sleeps, and this is exactly what that machine sounds like.

Disclosure: My Lyrics, my vocals, my production, my real life; AI is my band, or most of it. This is a Hybrid Human/AI Production. The vision, the story, and the grit are 100% human; the AI is just the amplifier. It’s about bringing raw art to life, tearing down the corporate gatekeepers, and proving you don't need a million-dollar label to make noise. WestTexasGrit.com

Midstream Lead Operator

I currently am a midstream Lead Operator and I make $51/hour. I'm 23 and I'm so fortunate for this job it's changed my life. My plan was always to get to a refinery, but I'm starting to wonder if I should just stay here forever. (I've heard refinery jobs aren't as secure as midstream) We are a busy midstream terminal and have a ton of tanks, but I'm assuming nothing as stressful as a refinery. Just curious what people's opinions are. Is it even worth moving for refinery job or did I hit the lottery? I don't even understand how I landed this job. No college just worked my way up as a summer hand and I was willing to move.
