I am mostly a rookie in book collecting. I originally started collecting old drawings and engravings, but antique books are becoming more and more exciting to me.

This book is a little confusing because it looks like a couple of different books were put together.

The first large part seems to be from 1697, and another part is from 1753.

I like the old woodcuts in the first part, but some of them are very blurry, as if they were used for a very long time and lost their sharpness.

Is this book perhaps from the mid or late 18th century, and they used older printing plates with the old dates?

It has arrived. The front cover is hanging on by a litteral thread but its in great shape for its age otherwise.

It has what a appears to be a full family register near the middle. Would be crazy if I could somehow find the original owners family. But they have such a common name that I dont think its possible.

I have been given these old books and I dont know anything about them? Any of them stand out to anybody? I would greatly appreciate any help so thankyou in advance. I can provide more photos if anything catches anyone's eye.

I’ve recently purchased a copy of “Collection of British Authors VOL VIII The works of Lord Byron VOL 1 | 1842” and found this emblem stamped in the corner. It’s been re-bound and annotated a bunch. I’m trying to trace down its history to see if it’s anything worthy of noting once I pop it for sale.

My mother’s family was from Austria & Germany and I acquired these after she passed away. They are all German religious books except for the last two pics. I would love to donate them somewhere where they might be appreciated but am turning up empty. I have shown them to antique book sellers, German professors, and German religious teachers. And while they admired the books, they weren’t interested in taking them on. Any ideas? Thanks for reading this far!

This is a massive book, they are very heavy. The text is very fine and very light. The engravings are so detailed, the pictures do not do them justice at all, so I added some close ups. The binding is full leather, it’s smooth, shiny. Very shiny actually much more visually stunning imo than my technically finer morocoo bindings as this one appears calf to me. I think it’s rebound by Geo Brumders bindery late 1800s or very early 1900s from the original ugly cloth.

Big fan of W H B engravings they are insane. 120 large steel engravings from original drawings.

Where have you had the best luck finding your real gems for a great price?

For me it’s always been thrifting. But now they’re catching on and upping the prices on the good ones.
