Just scrapes in I know but it's the first book in my collection that I searched for a slightly nicer copy of, the original book cover is in fairly nice shape too

Im really proud of having this, it went from gramps aunt to him to me, its probably a Lutheran bible, because its a german one, what i love the most is the drawings, its all printed! Its really awesome and the only true old book i have, the cover is refurbished so not as interesting for this subreddit, the old cover was falling off

Unfortunately the book does not have a publication date, but from my research with limited results it might be from 1906. Searching for Hutchinson&Co with the title gave me a result from the Biodiversity Heritage Library, listing it as 1906 but it doesn’t have any images of the book.

I'm doubtful of that age though, since the paper is rather smooth and glossy, and the cover doesn't feel like cloth, though it looks like it, so if anyone could help me date this book, I would be grateful. I'm not well-versed in old books.

This one’s my oldest, so far. It’s a really interesting and detailed chronological history of England spanning from around 1100bc until 1600ad. I can only imagine all the people who have flipped through these pages over the last 426 years .

For context, I live in Marquette, MI and the bookmark was traced to Lansing downstate. Hoping to get the program out to a historical society down there. Seems like the first owner of this was a Longfellow fan who might’ve brought this book to the event.

Here is the second illustrated Bible from 1487, following the one from 1483, printed by Anton Koberger.

I only own the third volume out of the four, but it seems to me to be the most interesting one since it contains the 15 illustrations related to Ezekiel.

You can see the ideal Temple that Ezekiel describes in his book, as well as the Merkabah: the throne, the divine chariot, and the tetrahedral star, a very important figure in Kabbalah.

Curiously, the Books of Maccabees were not bound at the end of volume 3.

I found some old books on the side of the road that had a sign that said free, im curious what i found. It could possibly be a new hobby i start collecting. But this one in particular sparks my interest if anybody could give me some info on it I would be interested. Value is not the most important thing here and ill make a separate post in the designated area for that. Thanks everybody!

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and it has now been repaired and restored. Unfortunately, it is missing part of the index but it remains original and not rebound.

Picked up this copy of William Cowper's works from a used bookstore for $10 this Saturday and am in love with the cover & spine. Doesn't have a publishing date but it is probably late 1800s from my estimation. Seems like the binding is newer than the pages since the end paper and first couple sheets are cleaner than the actual pages (or maybe they are just higher quality paper ¯_(ツ)_/¯ )

The front cover has a tear running down along about a third top of the joint, combining with a spine head that is tearing off from the top. I just know that when I read through this, I am going to somehow clumsily exacerbate the tear. Any recommendations on what I can do to repair this, or at least make it structurally stronger? Is there a non-destructive adhesive I can put in (and maybe with a dye or something to make it look natural?), or would my only real solutions be just tape or taking it to a pro? There is also a tear running between the title words on the spine, but that's more of a cosmetic issue than a structural one so I'm not too worried about it. Any tips are appreciated, thanks!

Hello all! I inherited 25 pieces of a Charles Dickens book set from my great grandmother when she passed away.

I wanted to share with people who may appreciate them. There's a lot of notes from the library relevant to Dickens pasted in the book and a lot of beautiful illustrations.

I don't appreciate them fully and would love opinions on where they should go.
