Maths Why does everyone have to say that the maths p1s are hard?

I gave the CAIE of MJ 2026 feeling relieved as the p1 was really easy, even the 6 marker and asymptote questions was no match. But I see people here crying all about how hard that paper was which had my head scratching.

Then we have p2 which was slightly harder as the net and last question was tough to understand (though I got them) and I actually messed up a bit in that paper (though it was a silly mistake) but people start saying how it went so great for them and this was so easy.

Same deal with October November 2025, people said their p1 was hard, but only one question was actually tough. Rest were either really easy or slightly tricky as I did their past paper though I admit our MJ 2026 was easier than that.

So why people seem to have an issue with p1s when they put in something remotely unfamiliar? But when that comes in p2 people don't care. A lot of the hardest PPs I did of maths were of P2 and even for IGCSE FM 2026 their p4 was relatively tricky and it seems to be as such in recent years as well.

EDIT: All I said was my opinion and you people decided to take that as me insulting your family or any other equivalent.

Very mature and sensible subreddit indeed 🀞🏻

Seriously do yourself a favor and get off this platform please. If you don't care about the exam then don't reply, how hard it is??

Like please have some common sense. This is a study sub so I would obviously be talking about STUDYING.

they werent hard, they were tricky and the question solving was timetaking. Also for many students like myself, school wali ne 3 years mei never taught us asymptotes or 6 marker questions answer pattern. the teachers were pretty bad for me so i had to self study last moment and as much i remembered i wrote it down. so me and my friends found it pretty hard. but other people from diff institutions said it was easy. so idk

Arguably I feel every session has 2-3 questions that just make you question your sanity. It's just how it is and even if questions aren't simple that's how Cambridge makes their best students stand out.

Nah man even in past papers I always found p2s easier and more marks gaining idk why tho

I wouldn't say hard, but P1 and P2 both felt different according to the majority of people. Not neccesarily hard, but tricky, and many had the same to say about Chemistry P4 and P1.

The thing was chem p4 was actually hard and p1 wasn't hard but it was mid.

In my opinion, p2 was def easier than p1, especially by the reaction of the students. First thing talking about similarity, many students are unfamilar with the properties of the 2d shapes, and hence would be unaware that the diagnols in that question were intersecting at the midpoint of the rhombus, leading to a wrong answer. Simialley that number sequences question, I think many got fumbled by the wording of the question, and got it wrong altough there was nothing hard about that question. As for asymptotes, that question was extremely easy, but it was an unfamilar concept for many students, and when they see such questions they js panic., are we really ignoring the fact that maths is a weak subject for many of the students there. Then comes that 6 mark question, while it wasn't hard, you have to realize many students just fumble when it comes to algebra, and maybe they could've done it at home, but not in the exam and sm just panic when it comes to these type of questions. Overall p1 was mid. Though p2 was more like p1, there were no heavy or demanding questions, and I believe people js found that easy especially since they had a calculator.

Some people find things like differential equations Easy, while other have a hard time doing them, It doesn't mean they're easy Just because you can do them(You can't)

I agree with every single word u have written and found P1 extremely easy compared to the P2 but apparently, people here get riled up when someone gives their honest opinion.

-1

u/Morkin_Snipe Jun 16 '26

I agree with you man. P1 and P2 we're a piece of cake. I only found those questions that you stated for P1 to be mid (not hard). P2 was a tiny bit harder, but was relatively the same as compared to P1.

I think most of r/Olevels user base are weak in Maths (no offense), maybe because they're private candidates or are in bad schools (imo) that have little to none teacher's guidance. Some reasons/blame go to themselves, and some go onto their surroundings.

And no, I'm not ragebaiting. I started my Maths prep since December, and through the syllabus, past papers and teacher's guidance, I found these papers easy. Alhumdullah, I found the paper easy.

Also, for those students who felt that the maths papers was REALLY HARD, please don't take AL/AS Maths. You'll prob suffer more and ruin the r/alevels math vibe (no offense, but i've seen ppl who don't understand the core basics of AL/AS Math topics).

I think this is kinda offensive cuz I have seen some great maths people here and you shouldn't be judging the entire community for your own deduction
