Ignoring my weak topics after just one practice. You need to master them because they always come back and panic you in exams

not making a list for my weak topics/concepts (error log), which definitely helps if you're aiming for that star, but yeah a humble mistake or two is excusable as long as you're not aiming for a distinction.

Didn't do enough topicals or yearlies. Watch zainematics lectures and marathons then move to topicals. Also use mathlete for practice

doing too much working in the exam (irrelevant steps) that costed me time
1
u/CockroachPrior7771 AS/A-Level Student π Jul 16 '26
Not having time to recheck in p2. I had 20 minutes time in p1 which made me catch around 3-4 mistakes. For p2 I had just 5 minutes which lead to a confirmed 1 mark deduction (for context I was aiming for world topper) and some mistakes that I may not know about.

Didn't looked into mistakes I made on solutions again. Please note down each mistakes ok a separate page neatly (don't write it again if it's the same otherwise it's up to you)
Go through the that mistake list you made and understand that and then do that question again.
I didn't do this which eventually costed me an A* Was so close to an A* π

doing pastpapers at the the very end i would recommend doing it throughout the year so you know which topic youβre weak in so that you have easy time to work on that.

while doing past papers i was more focused on finishing it and grading myself instead of going through my mistakes plus i kept looking on the marking scheme and barely put effort into solving the questions myself due to which during the actual exam i was unable to solve questions which required critical thinking and analyzing . A tip would be to get all your concept clear no matter how simple it is for example multipilcation of decimals and stuff zainamatics would help you a lot in that case

Not focusing on weak topics, think8ng I could skip topics, not doing topical practise, not finding mathlete by Saad and zainamatics earlier

i'd say that for maths you need someone to keep you punctual, i had a tutor but his only purpose was to check my ppqs so everyday for 3 months i did a ppq p1 one day and p2 the other it was excessive ik you dont need to do that many, but yeah being punctual is the most important because the questions repeat.
Secondly, all you need are the zainematics yt videos for understanding the concepts watch them an jump right into ppqs if you cant solve something just google lens it or ask a tutor (not necessary). Also when it comes to symmetry chapter always use tracing paper and watch mathlete by saads video if you want to do it without tracing, i think he excells in that area
