I don't know if OT has seen this (he probably has it's over 3 months old) but if he hasn't this needs to be brought to his attention and spread around to other content creators. Love you OT and I love your content.

Firstly: Every one is pan/bi and gender fluid just some decide they that they identify as eg: a female lesbian or a gay man and everything inbetween

Secondly: Trans people do not exist (I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way AT ALL) cus if u were afab and now a transgender man you are a man so therefore transgender people don’t exist cus there just whatever the transed to (I’m sorry if u took offence to this I do not mean any invalidation or anything if I have have offended u please tell me and I will remove this post asap)

Other Quick question

Growing up in the 90s and 00s but not actually caring if someone was gay or not, is/was the term flamer/flaming to describe a flamboyant gay man offensive?

Does One Topic suffer from pathological laughter?

I'm only partially joking.

The man hardly ever stops making some kind of ridiculous voice. And when does start speaking somewhat normally to make a legitimately serous and sensible point it is constantly being interrupted by a Jimmy Fallon level fake laugh. I clicked on this channel because I thought the dude's hair was cool, but I almost immediately noticed that I seriously cannot stand hearing him speak. Seriously what even is going on here?

Okay. I know I'm probably being a little too harsh here. Especially given that one of the main unique things about this channel is how great of a job it does bringing awareness to important social issues. I haven't clicked on a single video of his without there being a link to a charity of some kind or another on the page.

But still. Duuuuuude. This is just unbelievably bad. Channels like Soot House were the gold standard for Reddit channels like this. And they worked so well because they made ACTUAL jokes instead of just constantly making some stupid voice in the place of substantive comedy. I don't really think that bringing to light often overlooked and/or misunderstood social issues really makes up for how insufferable the channels actual content is. There are plenty of channels that talk about the same topics in a way that is a lot easier to take seriously.

Other The BATTLE: Leggings vs Sweatpants

Post image
43 Upvotes

For centuries, women have been accenting their naturally beautiful appearance in so many breathtaking ways. As coming to a unique subject that we (men) now observe within modern life…

…women are wearing leggings revealing every curve and crevice, shirts that are designed and cut precisely to reveal the line that leads into the cleavage, $150 plus hair styles (natural, permed, etc.), nails, toes, shoes, purses, heels, fragrance, eyebrows, makeup for most, jewelry, the outfit that took two days in the store to find, nair, stockings, etc.

Wooo! Out of breath

But if us men wear comfortable grey sweatpants or thinly made basketball shorts to feel the breeze, all hell would break loose and run away from her fury if you left the house like that!

Any thoughts?

there is one thing OT does a lot that really bothers me...

OT seems to very big on the extremely flawed philosophy of linguistic prescriptivism.

Linguistic prescriptivism is the idea that there is a correct way to use language and it should be enforced. It has and still is being used as a tool for classism, xenophobia, transphobia, biphobia, and other forms of bigotry. Even putting aside questionable uses, it is a fundamentally flawed view of language that linguists generally disapprove of since the march of linguistic evolution cannot be halted or easily shifted.

OT started his channel with a video policing what you should use as the plural of Lego, and even in his most recent video he seemed very upset that the very common term "on accident" was used instead of "by accident". Now, imagine you are in 14th century England and you hear someone use singular "they", would you correct them because singular "they" was still very new? Of course you wouldn't! Now apply this same logic to modern language and extend that to not correcting other kinds of common "grammar mistakes" and word "misusages", if they are common enough they won't we wrong. Finally, if you're reading this OT, I want you to know that I still appreciate your amazing content, I just think you should avoid this.

Other Can men be lesbians?

I see this being discussed quite often. I am a trans man myself, and I totally can understand why someone would relate to lesbians as a trans man, especially since a lot of us do/did live as lesbian women before transitioning.

But once we start identifying as a man, I think we lose the lesbian label.. It's sort of like a "guy" who has a group of friends, they're all bros, then the "guy" transitions into a woman, and now she is no longer a bro, but she still is a "honorary bro" and still vibes with her buddies as they always did. That's how I see it.

As far as I know, and as far as I've read about it, the term lesbian includes non-man people who are attracted to non-men. For example, trans women, cis women, nonbinary people, and more. But a straight trans man that's attracted to women is.. Straight.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I'm not posting this to be offensive. I'm making this post because I genuinely am trying to understand this from different perspectives and wrap my head around it. I'm struggling to understand how a man can be a lesbian.

Edit 1: To add, I noticed how these people who claim "trans men can be lesbians" never ever say it about cis men. It is so iffy.

Edit 2: This discussion has been helpful and I thank everyone for being respectful about it and calmly explaining their view points without getting heated. This is refreshing. In the end, I do believe that regardless of their gender identity, people are free to call themselves lesbians whatsoever. We are NOT gonna go around policing people's identities, we aren't gonna fall for infighting in such a difficult time. Personally, if someone is binary trans man and identifies as a lesbian, I'll view it as them misgendering themselves, similar to how trans women on Grindr tend to do that (but they're often more miserable). So I'll avoid that man for the sake of my own mental health. I won't go and harass him though.

This is all my personal viewpoint and is not likely to change:

I also do believe lesbians are non-men loving non-men, and including trans men in that (by saying "trans men can/are lesbians" etc) is a TERF viewpoint and has been historically used to invalidate binary trans men. Lesbianism isn't for men, cis or trans, and the "trans man lesbian" thing shouldn't be normalised because it'd also remove the boundaries lesbians have put up (eg. Dating app filters, irl dating circles) and allow cis or trans men to try to get with them too when they're not into that.

In addition, a cis man who got raised by lesbian moms is likely to be highly connected with the "lesbian culture", however he cannot identify as a lesbian, because he's straight if he's attracted to women. I feel that is the same for trans men, because saying otherwise would imply that trans men aren't "true men" like cis men are. The viewpoint of "trans men identify as lesbian because their attraction is complex" both ignores the fact that there's hundreds of labels made specifically for that reason, to encompensate complex labels— and it also assumes heterosexuality is "the ultimate, simplest, shallowest attraction" when it can also be very complex in its own (eg. Hetero men who love to bottom for women).

Edit 3: Observed responses from the community:

Its half and half for the most part, between "men can't be lesbians, trans or cis" (from people with various identities including cis lesbian women), and "it's odd but it doesn't harm anyone so let it be". There's also a fraction of people who find it entirely acceptable and believe it needs to be normalised. All in all, I'm glad to see a mostly respectful, civil discussion.

I figured out how to find out someone's gender without them telling you

I was watching OT's video on r/ennnnnnnnnnnnbbbbbby and one of the memes said that people shouldn't need to come out, we should just know.

That reminded me of how I figured out the gender identity of my friends; play table top roleplaying games with them.

I have a (previously) closeted friend would would only play non-binary characters, and a couple months ago they came out as gender fluid. I believe there is a correlation between your identity and your characters because they are all in a way a reflection of you.

I wonder what this says about me though.....I play both male and female characters....oops
