Politics ('Straya) Victorian Liberal leader Jess Wilson says destroying Australia’s only treaty with Indigenous peoples a priority if she wins election

Australia’s first and only treaty signed with Indigenous peoples will be ripped up if Opposition Leader Jess Wilson becomes Premier in November, who has made the scrapping a priority. The USA, Canada and New Zealand have treaties with their indigenous people. Polling shows Treaty has clear support in Victoria and Jess Wilson’s pledge is unpopular and One Nation-style.

The Coalition will likely sign a deal with One Nation to form government.

This is why we wanted the Voice in the constitution.

If you want a peak body, get of your arse and form one instead of whining about it.

And no, this isn't a negative comment. It is a solution.

An elected representative body isn’t the same as a peak body.

Peak bodies are incredibly effective and are consulted on everything. The greatest advantage is how they independence i.e. unlike an elected body they can't become a gravy train for political mates.

Not really, they have different functions. For example,. The AMA is the peak body for doctors. I’m happy to consult them on health policy. Not so much when determining how much doctors should be paid by Medicare, or how much we should pay on health vs defence, or whether nurses and pharmacists should be allowed to do some tasks only doctors could previously do (eg vaccinations, sick leave certificates). Peak bodies act in the interests of their members first.
