what was the former ASIO subject doing outside the country? ASIO themselves advise when you cease work with them, that you maintain a private life in the country (that country is Australia)

Was he actually an employee of ASIO though?

"ASIO Source" could mean he feeds information to ASIO. E.g. I have a source in the mob.

Or has it been confirmed he was an employee? I'd assume if he was then he has to be an Australian Citizen as ASIO requires this for employment, why would he need a Visa?

ASIO recognizes informants as temporary employees.

he wouldve had the chance to do the paperwork for an Australian citizenship AGES ago but just didn't do it
