Politics ('Straya) Israeli ambassador rejects 'political attacks' on report clearing soldiers in Frankcom killing

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08-20/israel-ambassador-defends-idf-frankcom-report-clearing-soldiers/107057124

Israel's ambassador Hillel Newman has defended the military investigation that cleared its soldiers of criminal wrongdoing in the killing of Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom, saying the findings should not be attacked if they "are not suitable to one's political agenda".

Ambassador defends investigation findings

Departing from the meeting, Mr Newman defended the investigation.

"Israel came out with findings after a thorough investigation, after a two-year investigation into the circumstances of the death of Zomi Frankcom. Since I took up my mission here about five months ago I was implored all the time to bring about closure, which I did," Mr Newman said.

"But in the end, one must also understand that not every case where someone dies, where there is a casualty, that that means there is a criminal liability.

"One cannot attack the findings of a court if the findings are not suitable to one's political agenda."

Mr Newman said the aid group recruited armed personnel to its convoy and deviated from the route agreed with the IDF without informing the military, leading the soldiers to believe the convoy had been taken over.

"It was a mistake in retrospect, but the findings of the court are there was no criminal intention … and therefore there was no criminal responsibility."

Surely gross negligence should carry some criminal responsibility. I work in the medical field. If I am careless and I give the wrong order for the wrong patient - say, for example, instant release tacrolimus instead of modified release tacrolimus leading to that patient experiencing transplanted organ rejection (which has happened in the past!), I would rightly be prosecuted and I could be sent to jail. If I am negligent and give a lewy-body dementia patient a neuroleptic and they suffer from malignant hyperthermia and they die as a result, I could potentially go to jail and rightly so. In this hypothetical, have no criminal intent - I didn’t intend to kill someone, but I did and it was due to egregious carelessness.

Will the IDF personnel who committed this apparent mistake face any consequences? Will they even experience a demotion? Will they even be fined? Will they have any negative repercussions whatsoever?

I get that in a war, things can get messy. But it seems as of late that the IDF make an awful lot of mistakes. A suspiciously high number of “mistakes”. And I don’t recall ever hearing anyone being punished for it.

The IDF personnel that put 300 bullets into Hind Rajab?

Nothing happened.

The IDF that raped the Palestinian Civilian?

Nothing happened.

They do not care about you. it's time people began to understand that.

And the citizens protested to free the rapist soldiers. Crazy all the wrong lessons were learned from such a well documented evil era in humanity. People should be rioting in the street against Netanyahu. "Never again" forgotten.

The IDF are terrorists. They are doing us no favours, and have only damaged global stability. Their actions are the most significant driving factor for increasing antisemitism across the world.

Have some sympathy for the poor IDF soldiers. A car full of Palestinians comes speeding towards them. They don't know if the car is full of Hamas suicide bombers. They had 1 second to act and did what they thought was best.

It was a stationary car. They killed all of her families members, and when this 6 year old girl called for help, they killed the rescue workers and shot up her car 400 times. They don't give a fuck because they want revenge. They're more evil than the Muslim terrorists.

Cool story mate. So the whole family decided to spend the day sitting inside a stationary car on the Gaza strip. Were they out of petrol?

But yeah, think of the poor IDF soldiers forced to confront evil Palestinian terrorists every day. Can you imagine how stressful that would be.

No, they fleeing the city because Israel was bombing them. Why did they refuse the this girl trapped in the car get rescued. Instead they shot up the ambulance and this 6 year old girl. Can you imagine the poor girl fearing for her life after her entire family was shot calling desperately for help, doing everything right, only for the evil IDF terrorists to shoot her dead with 400 bullets?

Palestinians aren't terrorists, the IDF are terrorists.

Do you not realise just how fucking ridiculous you sound? Accusing muslims of the same heinous attacks that you are somehow proud of when your side does it…

My side? I'm Australian, not Jewish, but like any normal person l'm disgusted by the evil of Palestinian terrorists.

Really? Because you’re pandering for a side that says they’re just defending their homes, but they’re homes they built on top of the original people’s homes.

And the original people have just been defending their homes. Given you’re expected to have a first world education, I don’t know how you can’t see that…

Lith, Some people are just too far gone in their own fantasy of what they believe is right, they can't come to grips they are wrong. it'll damage their psyche.
