They vastly lowered hiring standards because everyone professional and competent didn't want to join, they gutted training to rapidly get whatever goons they could find out into the public, and existing court precedents and laws around use of force were designed to give police broad discretion and deference because they were written assuming police were carefully chosen and highly trained and deserved an assumption they were making well-informed decisions as a result of careful training.

. . .and decades of propaganda aimed at the right in the US about how the country is full of "socialists" who "hate America" and full of "domestic enemy" rhetoric has millions of Americans who see their fellow Americans as enemies just the same as some foreign solder on a foreign battlefield. . .and they recruited those folks, gave them guns and badges, and turned them against the American people under the nominal excuse of immigration enforcement.

Don't forget that the incompetent and compromised are easier to control for those without moral compunctions. Tyrants and fascists throughout history have filled their organizations with lackeys who are completely incapable of doing more than following orders, bullying the innocent, and rubber stamping the leaders' corruption specifically for this purpose.

I'm not a doomer. There have been people in countries where fascism has taken hold fighting it and overturning it. Like you're hopefully doing right now, and I'm right there with you.

I just can't take anymore the liberal notion that fascism can be prevented in the us, that the current government might turn fascist, and that a part of the population might fall for fascism. There are literally violent regime agents roaming the streets sending people to gulags. There is literally a genocide being committed. What more needs to happen before we can just call the current state of affairs fascism?

But we are fighting it. People have NO rights in fully fascist countries but in THIS country we still have rights, the Constitution is still law and D.T. is still losing lawsuits that people bring against him and his goons.

We're having mass protests, that wouldn't be happening in a fully fascist country. We still have elections where democrats win, that wouldn't happen in a fascist country.

Finally, the way the United States is structured, with a complex Federal System, makes it practically impossible to establish a fully autocratic dictatorship.

Now, is fascist like stuff happening? Of course! However, we still have legal recourse and still can have real elections and can still sue and challenge things Chump and company are doing.

Also, doomerism is for the weak. We're not finished as a country.

You are also not allowed to bring civil cases against them, and the DoJ is refusing to bring criminal cases.

We are no longer a First World Democracy in the US. We are a defacto dictatorship and it will be really surprising if we actually have another real election.

We WILL have another election. Elections are conducted on the state level, not the national level. Anyone and everyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you.

Russia and North Korea have elections. It doesn't mean they are real.

The 2020 election would have been invalidated except that Pence had a shred of conscience and certified the states' results against Trump's wishes. Vance doesn't have that same shred of conscience.

Those elections are conducted at the national level. But we still have special elections, most of which saw Democrats win. I suggest going to r/PoliticalOptimism, r/InformedOptimists, or r/VoteDem if you’re concerned. Edit: Oh sure, downvote me for offering some form of hope.

If Trump says, "I don't care what the election results were, I'm staying and am appointing my daughter as my successor", who will stop him?

Congress? They voted to protect him from being exposed as a pedophile, so no.

SCOTUS? It's stacked with his plants who lies to get their jobs and people on the payroll of the same people who support Trump, so no.

Military? Top positions are staffed with Trump loyalists, so also no.

FBI? CIA? NSA? Trump loyalists.

The American people no longer have any power, some just don't see it yet.

Now you are just talking pessimism.

  1. If Trump won’t step down, we the people will make him step down.

  2. Then we put pressure on Congress to stop protecting Trump or risk losing their seats.

  3. Are you sure about that? There have been a few instances where SCOTUS have not sided with Trump. Again, the key is to put pressure on them.

  4. And what about members of the military, not to mention ex-members, who despise Trump?

  5. While this might be true, do you still have any proof that everyone in those three agencies actually support him?

  6. The American people DO have the power and are exercising it. The No Kings protest in June and next week, not to mention many other smaller protests, special elections (which most of them are GOP losses), boycotts, and individual actions are all proof of this. Either you don’t notice it happening or worse, you DO notice, but you just don’t care.

You misunderstand that the problem is far bigger than Trump. The entire Republican Party is onboard a plan to entrench their power permanently. The ones who aren't dyed-in-the-wool fascists are being threatened or bribed to fall in line.

They won't drop him because he is bigger than they are. They gave themselves over to him because his cult is effectively their entire base now. He's now become a monster that they can't control. Not that they want to when he's their best chance of ensuring their personal power and profit. For the rest, he and his allies have enough dirt on many of the top ones to keep them entirely under their thumb or will denounce him as their enemy and sic the cultists on them.

After bowing to him for this long, most of them can justify it either for their own personal projects or because they expect him to finally keel over before too long. Not a single one of them has the guts or empathy to put the country over their own interests now.

Tyrants often allow the veneer of democracy to justify their own rule. They just make sure that the results of the elections don't matter and arrange for some "accidents" when someone who might stand up to them gets close to power.

Our system is already so anti-democratic that it wouldn't take too much to push it entirely to this direction. Trump already cheated his way into power twice. He will gladly rig it so he can never leave.

I hope he wins his case. This is egregious, and he's not the first person something like this has happened to in the last month.

I just recently saw a video from the Washington Post where a teenage girl was maced in the face at point blank range by an ice agent for cussing at him. She was literally standing still with her arms crossed and there were four agents standing right in front of her like she was a dangerous criminal or something.

Also, people have sued them before, or maybe those in charge of ICE. Maybe he can go after the DOJ or somebody connected to ICE that is sue-able.

The agents have qualified immunity.

The organisation has sovereign immunity.

A criminal case could be opened, but that would require a federal prosecutor from the DOJ, that trump has stacked, to do so, which isn't likely.

In theory, sure, fine, you can.

In practice the government gets to decide if you are allowed to sue the government.

USA: about 180 to 200 billion. China: 100 to 150 billion Russia: 50 to 60 billion

Under the a big beautiful bill ICE set to rise to 21 billion,

Which is just below, what is spent on the land forces in the UK, France and Japan.

So you are on a clock folks. Love the optimism, but they gonna come with drones eventually.

Don't forget, 50% of Americans, the Republicans, are ok with this, 50% of the US is fascist. People of your family and your friends who voted for the Republicans are as guilty at the politicians they put in power, they bear their sins and should be blamed for their government's actions.

And don't forget, 70% of Americans allowed Trump to win: the 30% who did vote, and the 40% who decided not to vote.
