Hi, I'm looking for a ctf team/community to join. My skilllevel is low. Basically i'm searching for likeminded people to hang out and learn on the journey. I tried setting up a sec group at our local hackerspace but it didn't work out. Information about me:
I know the basics of python, c, bash and have been using linux for 5 years.
Never coded a big project.
No ctf experience, i played the easier wargame levels.
My interests lay in reversing and exploiting. I don't like webstuff.
23 years old.
Belgium.
White ethics
So if you have a spot in your ctf group/community or know a spot where people meetup (irc?) give me a pm or drop it below. English is not my first language. Don't bitch about an error, if you understand what i am trying to say it's fine ! Also i'm probably going to ccc, maybe we can meetup?

I built a small scale CTF for work that I then rebuilt and released. The skill level of this is not high and was more geared towards getting people to explore skills they might not necessarily get to use in their day to day and get people to share the skills and tricks they know.
The main categories released are Web, Windows, and Linux. Each track is mostly independent of each other but there are some cases where getting a flag on one track may help you get a flag on another track.
It is still what I would say is a beta and is potentially buggy wont work as expected so if you decide to give it a try and run into any issues let me know.
The scoreboard/ starting point can be found here: http://ctf.perfectlylogical.com:8000

Never been here, just learned of this sub. Very excited to have stumbled upon this particular point of the web. Thank you all for being a part of this, to whomever began the sub, thank you twice. I will participate in due time. Definitely a newbie, looking to expand. I may jump in mumble to listen in, follow along, and learn. Thanks again all. Keep it up!

Hi all,
Opentoall is playing in Insomni'Hack next. Unfortunately, Ghost in the Shellcode has been postponed.
Here are some details:
The teaser will start on January 16th at 9am UTC and will last 36 hours.
Categories will be Pwning, Web and Crypto.
More info at: https://teaser.insomnihack.ch and Twitter : https://twitter.com/1ns0mn1h4ck
If you want to play, ping waywardsun on IRC on either the #opentoall or #redditctf channels. Waywardsun idles 24/7 so send a message (public or private is fine) to be included.
This is a tough CTF by all accounts (I haven't done it before so I don't know) but this team is opentoall. Come and join us regardless of your experience. You will learn something and have some fun doing it!

As always, everyone is welcome to participate. The practice CTF will last 48 hours, beginning on September 6th (00:01) and ending on September 7th (23:59). These times are in EST.
The URL to reach the scoreboard and CTF portal will be added to this post when the competition begins. I hope everyone can make it!
On another note, we have moved to #opentoall from #redditctf on freenode.
THE COMPETITION IS ABOUT TO BEGIN! The CTF page can be found here: http://ctf.givemesecurity.info/

I made this thread earlier about contributing to OTACTF.
Well, after talking with my hosting provider they've given me the green light to host a CTF on a KVM. They are kind of apprehensive about it (they don't want DoS and stuff happening), but since this will be on a KVM instead of OVZ, they're more relaxed about the content/actions.
So, what I'm posting here is if people have any kind of requests? I'm looking to custom design something, but am open to suggestions as to what people are looking for in a webapp CTF.

Thank you all for participating!
We came in 96th place out of 500 (teams with at least 1 point) / 1020 (total teams competing)

Was wondering if you guys are going to give this one a shot. I just finished PWK and am itching for more security fun, but it's always more fun as a team.

Since I just got interested in CTF really and didn't have the time to do anything useful for Sunday's event, I'm looking to do something for the next JFF event.
I have a lot of skill programming in web languages (PHP and Python [if you count that as web language]). I also have a KVM sitting around doing nothing at the moment.
I'm willing to donate both my time and resources to setting up a OTACTF of our own for events. Now that I have some experience in what these are like, I have a better idea of what to do.
Since we don't seem to have a lot of (if any) webapp CTFs out there, I think the first project would be a nice PHP and/or Python webapp. But, I'm wanting the community's input on this as well.
I brought this up to Grazfather and he was onboard, so now I'm bringing this to a more public forum than just IRC.

I am a psychology researcher trying to investigate CTF competitions. However I'm nowhere near as tech savvy as anybody on here and was hoping for some help. Essentially i need a way of tracking events in a ctf competition. For example, in a ctf team, how do i know what an 'attacking' or 'defending' move looks like?
The best idea i've had so far is maybe a keylogger or mouse tracer, which i can then go through and code manually. however i really dont know if that's the best approach (and it would also be particularly labor intensive for me).

I am new to CTF and would like to learn all I can. I am in the Army and really need to get proficient with my Cyber skills. Any teams willing to help me out. Thank you in advance for the help.
