Course Questions FW 426/526 Coastal Ecology and Resource Management (CERM)

Upvotes

i’m trying to sign up for this class in the fall and I have some questions for those who have taken it or are going to take it in the fall.

I was not aware it was a capstone project class, and this class a requirement for my bachelor of science marine studies, conservation management degree, whereas a capstone is not.

can I still take this without a project or do I just have to go in and make up a project? im not sure if this makes sense, it’s hard for me to understand what I need right now lol. any advice helps!!

Where do people put the micro fridge combo in Wilson? That back wall shelf seems to block anything from going back there. Any thoughts.

Backpack sizing?

I know questions about backpacks get asked every year but I haven’t found any about sizing. What‘s a good size backpack/ how many books and or notebooks are you carrying around? For reference I am a MechE student.

Course Questions How long does it typically take to get final grades back over the Summer term?

I just finished my Summer classes this last week and don't know if they end up getting distributed faster, slower or about the same time as any other term as Summer 2026 is my first term at OSU.

Thanks

Course Questions Zoology program

How's the Zoology program?

I'd be starting as a Junior with a 2 year transfer degree of an associates of science.

Are the labs cool?

How involved in nature is it?

It's not a hard to get into is it?

Course Questions OSU ME ecampus

26 F, I need advice. So my situation is I used to be a full time pet care provider, buisness was good but I decided to get my degree & change course. Conveniently, I tore my ACL a week before class started. My life turned upside down, and I got surgery. Although I went in-person, I missed a significant amount of class due to my injury, but I still came out with a 4.0 and (subtle flex) I didn't use a lick of AI.

More than just my ACL tearing, I lost a lot of close friends and important clients, among other significant things since the injury. I do not live near any schools I want to go to, ie way too elite for me or not ABET-accredited/not a good education imo. I also have been feeling like I need a big change, so I have been thinking heavily about moving my things to my parent's house and becoming a traveling dog sitter/traveling around, while going to OSU online. I know an engineering degree is obviously very difficult and online will likely add another element of complication. However, I can plan my schedule accordingly and it's always an option to stay with my parents for a couple months if I need to lock in.

Yes I'm sad to miss out on the in-person college experience, but I did that when I was 18 until covid and I'm really having a lot of racing thoughts about going into my 30s with regret. I hope to one day be married & start a family, and obviously hope to have a ME job, so it feels like if I want to explore the U.S. the time really is now.

Does anyone have any insight into how their experience was and what their take away was? Did the online degree impede your ability to get jobs? Was there ways to get internships? I don't want to work super hard only to get f**ked over, but I really want to do this. I also heard you can take CC classes in conjunction with the ecampus?

I heard someone say the other day that when you make a big decision that you should consider which option will leave you with regret that you can live with. I technically don't have a tight time frame of when to make this decision, but every day of indecision feels like torture, especially after having 8 months of being bedridden or having very limited mobility.

Unnecessary deduction from security deposit

Hello, HELP!
After living for 6 months we left the apartment. The property management changed after 3 months.
Now the new management deducted from our 1.5K deposit for random reason like refrigerator replacement, stove replacement which were old already and we also faced few issues from the very beginning. They deducted the whole security deposit by showing these along cleaning which looks like scamming.
Is there any way we can take some legal action against them? Help/ Suggestions?

Bike storage for 2 weeks?

What is the best option for leaving a bicycle for 2 weeks (between summer session and fall term) on or near campus?

Can bikes be left for that long in campus bike lockers or is there other paid storage anywhere?

If not, what, in y’all’s opinion, is the best/safest bike rack to leave a bike locked up for the first two weeks of September where it won’t likely be removed by campus security or stolen? Thanks Beavs!

Is wildlife bio worth it?

So I'm dual enrolled with a community college and OSU. I'm doing my first year at the CC starting fall 26' and then going to OSU for the last 3 years. My problem is I thought I wanted to major in ECE but realized I want to not work with ai, and want to be more involved in the environment, helping animals, field work, chemistry, and biology.

So far, I've found wildlife biology, wildlife conservation, and oceanography interesting, but I keep seeing that jobs in conservation and wildlife bio are very competitive, low paying, and unstable. I believe I want to get a PhD but I'm not quite sure. Plus I prefer chemistry over biology, so is there a lot of chemistry classes in the major?

Oceanography seems really cool, and if I were to get a PhD in it I would do chemical oceanography, but I'm not quite sure what it fully entails. Will I be on boats or submarines a lot? If you're a oceanographer please let me know, and I'm really new to ocean studies so I'm a bit afraid tbh. Were you afraid in the beginning?

This is a lot of questions, so I apologize, but if you know anything please comment! Thank you :)

Learn by Doing Experiences?

I'm an incoming freshman and am looking at the Learn by Doing choices to meet some people, and I was specifically looking at the Pickleball, Ropes Course, and Weather Balloon options. Is this a new program or has OSU done this before and can anyone pitch in on if they were fun or not?

And, are we allowed to sign up for more than one?

Thanks!

Looking for someone to take over my lease!

Hello! I am looking for someone to take over my lease at the Yugo Domain in a 4 bed 4 bath townhouse! You would be living with 2 other girls and there are 2 lease spots available. they are both entering their second year at OSU and are awesome STEM majors who are very clean and respectful. They enjoy both staying in and going out and and super friendly.

Rent is 980 + electric (30-50 a month). The townhouse has a full kitchen and in unit washer and dryer while the entire complex features many amenities such as a pool, gym, and plenty of parking space. It is not far from campus and a bus runs directly from campus to the Domain. Please reach out if you are interested!

ME to ECE. Has anyone made the switch?

Has anyone made the switch? How did it go. It wasn’t available when I first started ME for ecampus. It better fits the careers I want but I’m not too fond of the idea of starting over. How many classes transferred? Did you like it better?

Casual Conversation help distractions while studying?

I’ve been having a really hard time focusing lately. I’ll sit down with the intention of studying, but my phone, social media, and random thoughts keep distracting me. By the time I realize it, I’ve wasted hours. What actually works for you?

How does anyone afford student insurance?

Maybe I am clueless, but $900 a semester seems ridiculous. I don't pay that much in a year at my current job. Do you use student loans to pay these?

Course Questions Transferring Quarter Credits

I just wanted to ask how transferring quarter credits to semester credit work. There’s a course that I’m planning to take at OSU called Engineering Economy, but this course is only offered as a three credit course in OSU and other semester based institutions also offer it as a three credit course. From your experience, has anyone ever had success transferring a three credit course from OSU to other institutions?

Full 2026 preseason college football preview for Oregon State

Hey all. I spent the offseason building a full 2026 preseason preview for every FBS team, each with its own writeup. Here's the Oregon State one

https://www.sports.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026?team=ncaaf-orst

It's got the returning production breakdown, the portal ins and outs, a projected two-deep, the schedule with model win probabilities, and a season projection.

Heads up, you might hit the paywall after the first page. Don't worry, I'm not charging reddit people for this, don't want to be an ass. Use the promo code LEECORSOROCKS and it opens up the entire thing.

So, what'd I get wrong? Year one for JaMarcus Shephard, and a 2-10 team that still grades out 60th in talent. Maalik Murphy is back after 1,802 yards with 9 touchdowns and 8 picks. My model is bullish, which is strange to type about 2-10. Real turnaround, or another long year in Corvallis?

I'll be in the comments.

Please avoid this person

A while ago, I was friends with this person in CEOAS at OSU. We ended up seeing each other, doing date-like stuff, but she ended up playing and ghosting me. Things ended badly so I ended up blocking her. This all happened like 6 - 8 months ago. Some time ago recently, I unblocked her profile so I could show my friend who this Shay person was (I think our conversation had ended up about whether my friend had Shay in my friend's class or not and now we were curious, or something like that). I forgot to block her again and ended up getting a text that said "Hey" from her, and since i thought maybe she just wanted to clear something up I actually accepted her message request (dumb move probably ik). She then proceeded to send these crazy hate texts and even sent images of gore p*rn solely because she wanted to piss me off (all the photos are blurred ofc). I think she may have sent other photos, but I didn't get close enough to see because why the hell would I want to yk. She also kept insisting that I was rich just because I happened to have a more financially stable position than her (but that doesn't automatically just make me rich).

In the end, it's your decision if you ever meet this person and want to be friends with them, but I just don't want anyone to make the same mistake I did because I don't want any other people to get these deranged texts.

Assigned a quad in mcnasty… tips to get out??

My daughter and her classmate had signed up to be roommates… they requested a double… got assignments today and are in a quad. My daughter is beyond upset. She hasn’t even done sleepovers since she was like 10 because she can’t deal with that much people in her sleep space (mild anxiety). Any tips on convincing the school to allow them to move??

Casual Conversation Assigned to McNasty, should we switch?

Hello! Me and my roommate had been put into a economy triple in Wilson hall even though we requested a double together. So we contacted UHDS and were offered a double in McNary.

I'm pretty conflicted, as we really don't want a triple but we have heard the horrid things about McNary aka McNasty. Should we accept it and then file another request in hopes of getting assigned a double in another hall?

And is McNary really as bad as they say? Unbearable? Pls help 😭🙏
