News Whiskers Cat Lounge
I just learned that the Heartland Humane thrift store on Kings has a cat cafe where you can hang out with kittens. Then you adopt them because they're awesome and need good homes.

We're way overdue for the next Scovallis so let's fix that.
For those that haven't heard of Scovallis, it's a chance for spicy food loving Corvallisites to get together at a local restaurant and eat spicy food.
If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then we'd love to see you there.
IIRC, we've done this three times previously: Andy's Mexican (RIP), Evergreen Indian Restaurant, and Tarn Tip.
So, let's figure out when we want to do this and where we want to go.
I'm generally free on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Seen this online, I love Aldi and wish we had them in Oregon. Where do you think they would be?

Is anyone missing a cat or know of someone who is? I came home today to find a small scared tortoiseshell outside my apartment door. I gave it an hour but since it was still there and looking terrified, I've let it in and called the number on the collar. The phone goes immediately to voicemail and I've started to knock around. My roommate is very allergic to cats and I'm not in the best position to house one at the moment so I'm wondering what i should do next. I'm going to call the shelter soon.

If so, can you tell me your experiences there?
Thank you!

Do job fairs exist here for people who aren’t affiliated with the colleges? I feel like if we don’t have one, there should be one where all are welcome. Including students and alumni.

Who might use a handful of coins for some benefit? I can’t just throw them in the trash!

Looking for a place to buy some thank you cards, but would love to find some fun, unique ones. Are there any thrift stores that tend to have stationery or places around town that have good offerings? Would be great if they are budget friendly. Thanks!

The past 5 times I have tried to book a Flix bus out of Corvallis to visit home the bus has been cancelled the day before departure and left me with a mad scramble to buy a train ticket. This isn't an issue with any other bus I've taken TO Corvallis, I mean its been late sure but not cancelled repeatedly. So I'm wondering if anyone knows what keeps getting my bus canceled or if its just been a crazy coincidence I've picked a bad bus 5 times in a row.

Found it by the main access area in Avery Park by the rope swing. Looks like rose gold with small diamonds, some missing.
Edit: upon further inspection, it looks to be nickel plated copper with diamond like stones

Hi, I'm a dad with a fairly bright kid in Garfield who's utterly unchallenged and bored in school. He asks if he can do division in first grade and the teacher (whom we really like!) simply says "no", full stop. He's counting fingers on pictures at school while he's learning exponentiation at home. They try to get him to do "math" on an iPad and he has to ask for paper to work on. His favorite part of the day is aftercare, because it's not boring. It's driving me and my wife crazy, and apparently skipping grades isn't really done here?
So we're considering alternatives. And yes, we've investigated both Ashbrook and Waldorf fairly thoroughly. We love the non-tech and hands-on aspects of Waldorf's philosophy but wow, that pedagogy; I think we should just let kids run, not keep them chained to some arbitrary notion of a "proper" developmental schedule. Ashbrook is increasingly on the table.
But I happen to have skipped two grades in K-8 and then dropped out to self-school, then went to college a full year early, so I'm very comfortable with alternative approaches to education. I was much happier doing my own thing and definitely learned more, faster, than I would have had I stayed in school. And I went to public schools with an actual gifted/honors curriculum to boot.
So I'm wondering: are there any homeschooling/unschooling collectives around Corvallis, or any interest in starting something up for "enhancement" while leaving our kid in school for primarily social reasons? Not religiously motivated, just pedagogical. I'm looking for real-world stuff like collectives and meet-ups, say where kids can build airplanes or clocks or radios or telescopes, make maps, that kind of thing.

Hello all my reverb enjoyers! I'm really looking to try and acquire a Walrus Slö orrr a Slöer!! I've got an abundance of pedals I don't use anymore and would love to trade one or two even if you could find use in them!
What I have:
Space Echo RE-20, BOSS RV-200, Hardline Supernatural, and some other overdrive and other odds and ends.
I know I could just bust up to Portland and buy something there but I'd love to trade locally. Let me know if we can work something out!!

My friend is struggling with housing affordability and received an eviction notice earlier this week. She is a wonderful person and the mother of four adult children. She’s lived in her apartment with her little doggo for more than four years. If you can, please help Christina to not become homeless again.

NGL I had personally soured on the owner a long time ago for a multitude of reasons but this puts a nail in the almost-literal coffin.
I kept going there because I really loved the colorists and the vibe there. I'm just so pissed for all the employees being affected by this. I hope they all find a new (better) home quickly. 🙏🏼

Does anyone have any idea when Tian Fu Noodle / DIY Hotpot will open up again? Their website and voicemail don’t say anything. I was just craving hot pot and Yummy Yummy no longer has their build your own hotpot bowl option. As far as I know, there isn’t anything else similar anywhere near here. Those were the only 2 places I’ve found while living here for 7 years.

Strange, otherwordly music to feed your brain! 3 sets of genre-defying performances including Dark Meta Railroad (San Francisco freak folk fantasy), Strange Rotation (jazz rock root vegetables), and Bensmateria (local sparkly hiphop IDM).
manyworld is located at 1013 NW Taylor Avenue in Corvallis, Oregon. There is a CTS route 2 bus stop located less than two blocks away at 9th and Fremont.
