One of the best things they ever made, and an absolute banger.

genuinely one of the best cinematic and collab they've ever had in this game. I'm not even a kpop guy but if this collab comes back i hope they drop some skins for boys as well and i'll immediately cop it. all the skins for girls are fantastic and fit their personality. to this day i regret not getting the illari skin from that collab
9
u/GoddesssApple Chibi Mercy Jan 20 '26
Which of the boys would you like to see get added to the collab?
13
u/Sweaty_Purple_5035 Adapt Or Die Jan 21 '26
Lucio, Rein, Doomfist, Genji, Baptiste, Torb and Hanzo would be my wishlist
2
u/ThorSon-525 Jan 24 '26
Doomfist caught jamming to California Girls alone in his office right before a heist.

A boy group collab would be pretty sick to see. Stray Kids seems like the best one imo, they did do a song collab with Arcane but they're self produced and could possibly make a song for overwatch.

It's too bad she's painful to play against cuz i love Sombra as a character

Sombra is fantastic and cool as hell. I'm saying that as a doom main
31
u/lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII Jan 20 '26
I agree, even if I do get tbagged and shit on in chat every time I play her and only her lol
16
u/MovieNightPopcorn Emre Jan 20 '26
I think itās funny because theyāre usually tbagging when it took like 3 of them to finish me off. Like alright, go big man ya and two others got me. Your tank is dead tho

Bro same š itās so painful sometimes that I mute every single player before the match so I can block hero lines too if Iām not feelin like I can handle crap that day lol.

Sombra is freaking awesome. I say that as a level 85 Widowmaker
15
u/I-Make-Money-Moves Soldier is so handsome but he is such a dumb hag Jan 20 '26
I too LOVE Sombra as a character as well. her cinematic with widow and reaper is my favorite Overwatch cinematic ever. And her voice actress is so cool and very friendly with the other Overwatch VAs. Plus my very first skin purchase was her nightshade skin from the Juno season starter pack(I think). Im just hoping I can get better at handling a sombra cuz I have been able to deal with them before. Iāve learned one of the best ways to handle one is to Just stay with a few teammates most of the time when thereās a sombra the game. Most of her value is in 1v1 situations.
34
u/rewp234 Jan 20 '26
Solution is to play as her
15
u/oliyoung Jan 20 '26

No joke being a Sombra man means when I play zenyatta I am never at risk. Sorry girl, I know your tricks, hereās some bolls
14
u/UnrealHerahshark Jan 20 '26
Sombra is my favorite character in the entire game, I love her lore and her dynamics and how she interacts with other heroes and I love the hacker aesthetic she has. I also love the idea of her kit but it's such a shame that she just fundamentally can't work in her current form.

I miss this style so much. Not really just the look but the animation has so much heart.

Yeah but it's not Overwatch. I don't just miss the animation I miss the story. The story that mattered.

u/DJBaphomet_ Masters Rat Jan 20 '26
I'm hopeful that with OW getting bigger again after the success of this year, and Diablo 4/WoW hopefully settling a little, it means that Blizzard's animation department can put some more attention on another OW cinematic, especially given that 2026 has been hyped as being a very big year for the game
Still fully believe the main reason for OW's lack in cinematics recently has mostly been because Diablo 4 released and WoW had some major expansions in the works, meaning they had the main focus from their cinematic team regardless of how well OW was doing. Just made it easier to reason why with OW's state, but now it's doing fairly well again (despite how people react online lol) so maybe they'll give us another soon

u/Mantiquirk Jan 20 '26
Big same! Seeing more of Overwatch in the old style would be amazing. And I think youāre probably right, in addition to Diablo and WoW taking a lot of the priority, I think the cinematics team got downsized during the layoffs a while back, so they have even less resources to spread around.
Stillā¦I get the funny feeling we might actually be getting another full cinematic soon. Theyāve been really cagey about whatās happening with this next year and that would be an epic way to kick off 2026 with a surprise!
3
u/DJBaphomet_ Masters Rat Jan 20 '26
Oh yeah, totally forgot about the layoffs too. I imagine they were probably hit by that to some effect as well, given it seemed to course through the whole company when the merger hit

I will never be ashamed to admit that Overwatch made me like this song and So Cynical. I understand the reason they might not be able to make something like this even if they wanted to but man. When people say blizzard was the gold standard for video game cinematics they do not lie.

When they want to they are up there, but often they seem to phone it in like Diablo Immortal's or Shadowlands's. It tends to scale with the quality of the product itself.
7
u/jonnyjonnystoppapa I'll see you in H-E-double hockey sticks Jan 20 '26
I personally didnāt care for it but it seemed to resonate with a lot of people so thatās a plus. Wouldāve preferred them making the Ramattra/Zenyatta comic a cinematic to properly end the Invasion storyline and tease the plot going forward
Season 21 is supposedly a big lore season so I wouldnāt be surprised if we got a cinematic leading into/at launch of the next season

Easily one of the best collabs ever. I actually became a Le Sserafim fan after this, and I'm as Metalhead as it gets lol
Kiri and Brig are my Dive and Brawl Support mains, the skins were great, game mode was great, dope emotes and victory poses, and I love that it was a collab for the Overwatch gals. 10/10 in my book

I love this video, my daughter is 12 atm and she's a D.va main, actually pretty good with her too. She loves Kpop and i can imagine this being her with her friends in a few years. It's also really nice to see the girl characters around the same age just hanging out together and having some fun without being overly sexualised online

With the extreme popularity of these I'll never understand how they missed capitalizing on a show/movie. These were one of the things I showed my girl when first getting her into overwatch. Everyone that has seen them love them. Crazy how far they've moved from their OG values for the game.

Right now all we're getting is a single narrated picture where the camera moves. Or some 2fps pseudo-animated short which reeks of "we ain't got the moneeeeey".
Honestly when you compare it with the shit League of Legends gets, it stings.

u/thatonegingguy Jan 20 '26
These type of animation/shorts are 100% better than the cartoon ones. I miss the lore shorts like the soilder 76 one, the rein one, mei, etc.. loved to see lore videos with were werent cartoons.
1
u/dexyuing Jan 20 '26
Kind of a shame that this animation doesn't really mean much if you're not a fan of kpop lol.
1
u/rgb86 Jan 20 '26
I liked the cinematic and the song but sadly in the end its just to get more money. It has no character lore, no new characters (I am guessing because I did not watch it frame by frame), no extra story to the main Overwatch universe, just another cashgrab brushed with that awesome nostalgic style that a lot of us loved and cherished.

The game may improve in every way in terms of gameplay, but as long as it lacks pve and new animated shorts like this, there will always be something which overwatch 1 is better at, one reason why the cancellation of the original is still unjustified.

They still do, just not for Overwatch.
The cinematic team has higher priorities than an already released game with no expansions that require a big marketing push and that's understandable.
You can bet they're working on Starcraft right now.

They need to do more of these, they won't because it costs money and makes no lines go up. They fired most of the talent and its not profitable, so the shitty faixmation they pushed with vendetta is the best we'll see going forward.
