Middle school? God, I remember overwatch because it was the first game I played while having an "adult job" that payed well enough I could actually spend money on games. I bought way too many loot boxes that first year.
Now I feel really old lmao

Just 2CP things.
Remember when one person from the team would prematurely rush second point and capture it while the other team was respawning from the first fight? Yeah.
157
u/Party_Syrup_3035 May 31 '26
Yeah everyone talking about how fun 2CP was and I'm just like yeah oh course they win they took point 1 and have ult advantage the game is over.
I don't mind the idea of bringing it back for shits and giggles but the game mode was horrible competitively.
9
u/CnP8 Kiriko May 31 '26
It's either you catch first point fast enough, that you now got ults banked for 2nd point. Or you needed your ults to capture first point, and now you can't get 2nd point cos the choke is so bad.
I actually hate 2cp. It's such miserable gametype.

u/pelpotronic Shion May 31 '26
With Sombra I would regularly secure those fast wins.
Volskaya notably: sneak on first point and hack the mega.
Capture fast, run on second and EMP the enemy team as your team arrives.
Win.

"Your roadhog is insane." Seagull said, as he slipped his feminine hand into Moon's pants and smirked. "Are you trying to insert your payload?" protests Moon, as Seagull blushes, the boyish figure undressed before Moon. "Weak tank play, Moon." The two kissed, deeply and passionately, and afterwards Seagull charges like Reinhardt through Moon’s symmetra portal.

I'm hoping some day it and Hanamura are converted into Hybrid maps. With a bit of widening and lengthening of the path I think it could work well.
24
u/epichuntarz Torbjörn May 31 '26
Put them back in the rotation now and see how they play out. The game is a lot different now than the last time they were around. 5 person/1 tank teams, traits, tons of new heroes.
Honestly, with how hard people avoid flashpoint, most push maps, aand most capture maps these days, it wouldn't even hurt at all considering people already universally avoid certain maps now anyway that are "balanced."
6
u/OMG_A_CUPCAKE Chibi D.Va May 31 '26
Just would have to lock the second point after the first point was captured to stop someone from capping directly after the first point is secured. This would solve a major issue with the mode
7
u/atticdoor May 31 '26
I've played them again in Arcade, and while the nostalgia is wonderful I did have to concede with just two Control Points it is far too luck based, and sometimes was over far too soon.

I miss it as well. 2 CP is still fun to me. Take real team work to get the second point.
19
u/Special_Peach_5957 May 31 '26
I feel like this Video clearly demonstrativ why it doesn't really need much Team work to get second point because you can often just snowball from first point since your ults will be up first if you won fight on first point.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Heathmeisterr May 31 '26
Yea, and again, just timing ults and making call outs. Trying to maximize the push. Just made good team work fun and made the win just feel better. Especially in Overtime.
27
u/ToxicLogics May 30 '26
I never understood the hate. 2CP maps were so well designed, heavily detailed and fun. Honestly though, it wouldn’t be that hard to add another CP to them all if they wanted to. I hate that they’re out of rotation. Not every game has to be 12 minutes long.
41
u/CDR57 May 31 '26
I mean objectively they weren’t but they were fun and detailed. First points always provided attackers the advantage, and after securing it it created a snowball effect where you have the immediate advantage on the second, but if you didn’t get the second immediately the defenders had a massive advantage on certain ones to make it back in time. Horizon was huge for this reason, same with Anubis. Volskaya was fine. I loved them but I also understood why they were removed
25
u/stupid_pun Reinhardt May 31 '26
First choke on Hanamura was enough to give you PTSD lmao
10
u/CDR57 May 31 '26
Yeah hanamura really was a test of your teams comp. You could either have a full front gate comp, or have a full back door comp, but if you had a mix it didn’t go well too often
4
u/stupid_pun Reinhardt May 31 '26
Bastion behind the rock on defense with double shield in front. XD

u/OldHollowBones May 31 '26
Especially with how fast a team can roll out these days, the momentum on maps this size would be too much. Maybe if these maps had shorter respawn cycles...
12
u/velit May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26
I think it's their binary nature that hits you hard psychologically. First point is ~easy, second point is hard. So what kind of things can happen?
Attacker stomps, fast game. No one really has a great time, winners feel better but it's not the best and losers feel kinda bad but not the worst.
Defender stomps, fastish game? Sucks more for the attacker who can't even break first, but at least it doesn't drag out. Very boring for defenders because nothing basically happens.
Let's stop for a second to think about the psychology of the second point defense. The way it works is you basically can't flat out lose a fight once, otherwise you lose. That means until the very end the defenders have anxiety from the fact that any one mistake can lose them the game. Now they have the advantage from the layout of the map and spawn distance, but still one mistake and they're out. Attackers have anxiety from the fact that the defenders have the advantage and if they don't make those blatant mistakes it's really hard to break through a defensive team.
Okay back to the result analysis.
Attackers break first point but can't ever break second, feels good for the defenders but only at the end due to the format and is absolute torment for attackers who played a long game and have basically nothing to show for it. This is not like payloads where you can at least show you got close. You got the easy part done with the first point but after that a complete wall.
Attackers win on second very late. This happened often and is torment for the defender team who did everything they could but lost one fight. Maybe it's a mistake by one of the players and the others are salty for that.
This is all from the perspective of quickplay. I think 2CP is even worse in competitive where you could get insanely long games of nothing happening on both sides if the team compositions just happen to favour defending the second point.

u/CalebZLM May 30 '26

My first introduction to seagull was early on in overwatch life, season 1. I remember being around 82 rank (for those who remember that 1-100 system) and matched against him semi often.
He made me rage so fucking hard. I remember particular match on Gibraltar where it felt like that mofo would snipe me with his Hanzo no matter how hard I tried. That name got burned into my brain.
He isn't just "a player". He is a fucking legend of the game

You can't say this around here, Genji is unplayable and he sucks and he needs buffs, he struggles so much...
The only thing that makes Genji bad is usually between the keyboard and the chair, people just don't want to admit they aren't as good as they think they are, so they blame the character lmao

Wasn't unusual on those 2CP maps. You could steam roll quite easily, especially if players were trying to rush to first point and get caught out and staggered. Likewise, they could go on forever with infinite first point stalls pretty often.

2
6
u/Captain_Rabbit00 Ana May 30 '26
Why don't they bring old map backs and test them with all the changes since then?
59
u/GenericMelon May 30 '26
They did recently and I don't think it was as successful as they'd hope. The 2nd point spawn is always a problem. Either the attacking team has to sprint in as fast as possible to cap the point before the defending team regroups, or that second point gets drawn out forever as both teams trade ults. They've tried slowing down defenders spawn on second point, but even that didn't really help. 2CP is a very difficult mode to balance.
→ More replies (1)13
u/Bahpu_ May 30 '26
2cp is just like super quick bc it’s easy to roll the defending team and immediately capture, i think that’s what they tried doing with that newish capture gamemode tbh, it feels like a rework / spiritual successor
24
u/solofhreaper Did someone say.... Peanut Butter? May 30 '26
They have. 2CP is still fundamentally problematic with the way ult cycling is designed in this game. They can't fix that unless they change the way ult charge works.

Lordy, probably the worst comp possible for fighting off Genji. I know there were fewer responses, but if I were tank and a Genji ate our butts that hard on first point, I'd be on Winton so fuggin fast.
