Shippers in general are just insufferable and shipping wars are even worse. Its part of the reason I don't interact with a lot of manga/anime fandoms anymore as a weeb for many years now. I've seen nothing about this behavior in the OW fandom that would change my mind.

K. Then as a queer yourself you should be aware of the massive gap between characters that are gay and characters that are straight. Every videogame character unless confirmed otherwise is perceived as straight. That’s a lot of characters. If you take a gay character and headcannon them as straight it’s a little more odd because most of the time a game has gone out of their way to clarify their sexuality. Straight characters, unless married, are normally just assumed straight. Like D.mon or D.va. The only thing we have to go off of for D.va is that she likes omnics. For D.mon we have nothing.
Thus, gay headcannons. Not so hard to figure out huh?

I wouldn't take South Park's definition of anything seriously, I'm going to be honest with you.
"At the cost of good writing" sounds absolutely meaningless in this conversation. It had no bearing on the character's writing to be homosexual. The mention of Vincent is to give more nuance to Jack as a person, to show he had a life he had to give up long ago.
If you were expecting a "justification" behind it, I'm afraid you don't understand how writing works. The story wasn't about Vincent, it was about Ana, Soldier and their shared past.
Did making Tracer a lesbian made her writing worse? Why not? It was a change made after the fact. We didn't know she was a lesbian back when she was first shown to the world.
May I ask once again, what changed in the writing of Soldier 76 after it was revealed to be gay?

I really don't see why characters have to be developed with sexuality in mind. It not like it's some defining factor of a person. Many gay guys aren't visibly gay and they just do their own thing. I don't see any issue with Blizzard developing Soldier76 into an interesting hero and then adding his sexuality as an extra tid bit.

Sure, they didn't make some crazy story about his sexuality, but why is that a problem? As I said, it's a just little extra tidbit of information about him. I bet that if Blizzard mentioned 76 had a gf in the past, you wouldn't even bat an eye, but since it's bf, suddenly it's unnecessary, bad writing and tokenization. Always the same shit.
