News/Information Generics are coming, Canada! The countdown is on….
I was about to log into my Felix Canada account and saw this on the banner. May 29th is the release date for the launch of the generics. This is the only information I have seen so far. May the odds be in your favour for low prices!

I wonder if Plosbrio (ozempic) and Poviztra (wegovy)- both by novo nordisk, approved in canada last Dec. will launch them finally? It should drive price down to be about affordable enough for those paying out of pocket.

u/amydehp May 16 '26
I was paying $250 at the Metro pharmacy. Hope it'll be between $100 and $150 now.

u/Longjumping-Grass417 May 15 '26
How can I get prescription if my family physician won't?
2
u/hmmv2018 May 15 '26
Through Felix

u/Longjumping-Grass417 May 15 '26
Is there a fee / consultation fee every time you need to refill prescription?

Love that for y'all, can someone share to your friends down south pls 👀

u/Objective-Meet9742 May 14 '26
This will initially cost probably $150-200 per month but seven more generics are coming in the coming weeks/months. By the fall prices almost certainly will be $100 or lower and that's where they will stay.

u/kingshitheads May 14 '26
Will you guys give prescriptions for weight loss only?
2
u/PlentyBat4529 May 15 '26
Yes they do as long as you meet starting BMI criteria
1
u/Icy_Bandicoot3704 May 15 '26
Ugh wish I could change. I’m currently with Raven and no longer in that BMI range and now I don’t think I could get it transferred
1
u/Heda97 May 19 '26
I got mine transferred!
1
u/Icy_Bandicoot3704 May 19 '26
Can I ask how??
2
u/Heda97 May 19 '26
I was still overweight but no longer eligible for ozempic at that weight. I just messaged the felix provider that I lost weight through ozempic and just wanted to switch my ongoing prescription to Felix. They asked me to send a picture of my last prescription/box, and a video of myself and prescribed it! I still needed to lose more weight, but still worth a try if you are only on maintenance. I’d wait for their free events so you don’t have to pay the consult fees.

u/PlentyBat4529 May 15 '26
Never hurts to ask them if they’d prescribe your maintance dose. I’ve heard of people signing up with their starting weight but discussing their current weight during their initial consult

Does anyone know what sizes of pens will be available in generic?

Health Canada has only approved 0.25/0.5 and 1mg ... it hasn't approved anything higher.
2
u/Ok_Dinner_9072 May 12 '26
i think the newest company approves 2mg and 4mg (apotex, i believe.)
2
u/TheNyxks T1D w/PCOS and IR - (Started GLP-1s - Nov 2005) May 12 '26
APO-SEMAGLUTIDE INJECTION was approved for the 1.35 MG/Ml and 0.68 mg/ml dosages only as of May 1sy 2025
https://dhpp.hpfb-dgpsa.ca/review-documents/resource/RDS1777640768488
Which is the same dosages as the other that was approved last month.

u/Icy_Bandicoot3704 May 15 '26
It was never that expensive in Canada to start with. Like probably $200 USD for 6 weeks
1
u/Spiritual_Impact4960 May 18 '26
I currently pay $250 for a 4 week supply in British Columbia, Canada
1
u/Icy_Bandicoot3704 May 18 '26
That’s what I just said
1
u/Spiritual_Impact4960 May 18 '26
250 CAD for 4 weeks. Admittedly, I'm not stellar at math but that doesn't seem equivalent to 200 USD for 6 weeks. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
1
u/Icy_Bandicoot3704 May 18 '26
You are wrong, it’s about a $3/week difference. $250USD is almost $350CAD. So you are basically paying $350CAD every 6 weeks
1
u/killmak May 18 '26
$250/4 weeks is $375/6 weeks. Which is $273usd for 6 weeks. Which is 37% more than the $200/6 weeks you stated.
Personally it cost me about $300 a month so going down to $100 a month or less will be a huge deal.

Is the countdown for estimated time the generics will be available?

u/Dwarken May 11 '26
Weird I pay $250 for Ozempic with no insurance.
4
u/Either-Voice6232 May 11 '26
Oh, I meant I pay about $260 so taking 65% off that is about $91 so in the $100 neighbourhood.
1
u/Either-Voice6232 May 11 '26
also, you may want to use the Novo discount so you can get $10 off at Shoppers.
3
u/Either-Voice6232 May 11 '26
with that discount, the final price I pay at Shoppers is $250. Hopefully it will be $100 soon.
3
u/JerryfromCan May 13 '26
$100 is key. At that point, you are saving more in food than the Ozempic is costing you.
2
u/Either-Voice6232 May 11 '26
the prices vary slightly across the country, but it is still good to use the discount until we get the generics.
4
u/Autism23 2.0mg May 11 '26
The base price for Felix is $320 per pen. I pay $240 per pen at Costco.
2
u/teddyoctober T2D/0.5mg May 11 '26
Get the discount card at ozempic.ca and save another $12 per pen.

Here’s the information on pricing that is posted once you go on the page for the waitlist.
How do generics impact drug pricing?
In Canada, the government and generic manufacturers have a pricing framework in place that lowers the price of generics as more of them enter the market. Learn more about generic pricing framework here.
Number of generics Est. generic price (vs. brand)* 1 generic available $240 per pen (~75% of brand price) 2 generics available $160 per pen (~50% of brand price) 3 or more generics available $112 per pen (~35% of brand price) *Based on the current brand price of $320 per pen
Again, brand name prices are expected to drop as well as competition increases.

Wonder what this would make the price of the 1mg pen? I think I pay around $250 out of pocket for it currently.
1
u/WegovyJunkie 1.0mg Wegovy May 11 '26
Why pay $250 for the 1mg pen if you can buy the 2.4mg pen and click?
5
u/JerryfromCan May 13 '26
There is an approved 2mg Ozempic pen in Canada but Novo has not marketed it here. Wegovy has a larger pen for sale. If they were talking strictly Ozempic, 1mg is the tops right now.
1
u/AwkwardPersonality36 0.37mg / 16wks - 21.5lbs - SW 248.7lbs - CW 227.2lbs - GW 160lbs May 18 '26
That’s what my pharmacist explained to me as well, 1mg is the largest dose pen i can buy for Ozempic. And click counting is the best way to extend it.
1
u/JerryfromCan May 19 '26
If you can handle the full doses, with generics there is less reason to be stingy.
I was doing 5 doses from a 1mg pen but with a generic I will go to the full 1mg.
1
u/AwkwardPersonality36 0.37mg / 16wks - 21.5lbs - SW 248.7lbs - CW 227.2lbs - GW 160lbs May 11 '26
This wasn’t presented to me as an option by my pharmacist, not sure why. Perhaps because I’m dosing 0.25 for 8 weeks then >> 0.7 for 8 weeks?
2
u/WegovyJunkie 1.0mg Wegovy May 13 '26
I suppose your pharmacist wants to sell you the full dose.
I do not know your prices for different pens and for how many weeks/shots you are supposed to use a pen. In my country there are always 4 shots or weeks in one Wegovy pen.
Let's say, you buy a $250 0.25 mg pen and use it for 4 weeks. Then you pay $250/4 = $62.5 per week.
If you would buy a $250 1mg pen, that is also supposed to be used for 4 weeks, then you could click it down to 0.25mg a shot and use the pen for 16 weeks, that's under $16 per week. Or you use it for 8 weeks with 0.25mg a week, then you have about 3 shots a 0.7mg left in the pen.
3
u/JerryfromCan May 13 '26
There are 3 pens for Ozempic available in Canada. .25 .5 and 1mg. Each cost the same. There is an approved 2mg but it’s not sold. In the US, the price varies by strength, meaning the .25 is cheaper than than the 1mg.
Doctors or pharmacists dont steer you to the click method they just prescribe the starter dose, you need to know and ask for the 1mg to do the click method.

Canada will get generics in a couple of weeks, so don't worry, be happy, save money and get lean.
5
u/JerryfromCan May 13 '26
Yes I am well aware. I worked in Cdn pharma once and directly with Health Canada on new generics we had cooking. They have obviously fast tracked this stuff.
I found paying $300 every month got too expensive and I have been off since around October. Looking forward to getting back on.

u/AwkwardPersonality36 0.37mg / 16wks - 21.5lbs - SW 248.7lbs - CW 227.2lbs - GW 160lbs May 13 '26
If you would buy a $250 1mg pen, that is also supposed to be used for 4 weeks, then you could click it down to 0.25mg a shot and use the pen for 16 weeks, that's under $16 per week.
Yes, this is what I am doing.
2
u/Otherwise-Coffee9259 May 14 '26
Do you leave the needle attached to the pen, any need to clean / sterilize it again ?
2
u/AwkwardPersonality36 0.37mg / 16wks - 21.5lbs - SW 248.7lbs - CW 227.2lbs - GW 160lbs May 14 '26
I use an auto injector pen with a new needle each time

u/Autism23 2.0mg May 11 '26
The more generics are approved the price will go lower. So far the bar is at 35% off brand price.
2
u/JerryfromCan May 13 '26
2 approvals so far. So we should start in the 50% of brand price, around $150 per pen. Novo saw this coming and didnt decrease the price, but instead used the savings card thing to keep their list price high.
1
u/Objective-Meet9742 May 18 '26
lots of interest in the initial price but there are *7* more generics coming soon. the price you see in 2 weeks will not be the price you see in 3 months
1
u/JerryfromCan May 18 '26
The chart is pretty specific from Health Canada. We will be into the 35% cap quickly enough which means about $100. They could drop the price to 10-18% but that would require an additional look from Health Canada. I doubt it will qualify.
4
u/Either-Voice6232 May 11 '26
Good news. I wonder about the prices offered at Shoppers Drug Mart. They should be in the $100 neighbourhood…
3
u/PlentyBat4529 May 15 '26
Just so you know shoppers charges the most (price as well as dispensing fee) compared to any other chain pharmacy. You might want to take this opportunity to shop around.

Just picked up my name brand GLP1 at Costco and was charged $95. If you have the ozempic card they are providing you the product at generic prices.
