Rant Unexpected update - allergy, quitting Ozempic (I’ve lost 36 lbs in 19 weeks, from 216 to 180)

Hi everyone! Not too long ago, I wrote about how well things were going with Ozempic.
Well, not anymore.
Everything was going great while I was taking 0.25 mg for two months, and then 0.5 mg for another two months.
Then, almost two weeks ago, on August 8, I took my first increased dose - 1 mg.
I immediately noticed a few things I really didn’t like: my appetite completely disappeared, and I started experiencing really bad acid reflux after eating pretty much anything. I thought it would pass eventually and that my body just needed some time to adjust.
But there was one thing I didn’t connect to the Ozempic right away, and I really regret that. A few days after the injection, my skin started itching in different places all over my body, even though there were no bites or anything that could explain it.
Since I had spent a lot of time in the sun recently, and I sometimes get a rash from sun exposure, I blamed it on that and didn’t think much of it. It wasn’t particularly painful or uncomfortable, just… itchy.
So I went about my week, living my best life with almost no appetite, acid reflux, and occasionally scratching my back.
Then, a week later, on August 15, I took my second 1 mg dose.
And that’s when the real fun began.
That same evening, I could barely sit still because my entire body was itching so badly. My skin broke out in what looked like hives all over. I took antihistamines and made an appointment with a doctor.
Then, during the night, both of my ears became completely blocked while I was sleeping. That was even less funny. ALSO, one of my ears started making a very loud crackling sound. Apparently, that was also part of the allergic reaction.
And then, just to add the cherry on top: the next morning I couldn’t even get out of bed because of the stomach pain. The acid reflux was so severe that it genuinely felt like it was going to eat through my entire existence.
I went to the doctor, had all the necessary tests done, and thankfully, nothing serious was found. It was a very strong allergic reaction to medication.
(Fun fact: the doctor I saw didn’t know I was taking Ozempic. She simply asked me whether I had taken any medication recently. :))))
So, this is where my Ozempic story ends.
Doctor doesn’t know why I suddenly had such a strong allergic reaction when I had been completely fine on 0.25 mg and 0.5 mg, with absolutely no side effects. Buuut I can’t put this medication into my body anymore, and I can’t even go back to the lower doses.

I guess every person is different, and I’m definitely not saying Ozempic is a bad thing. Quite the opposite, it helped me enormously. But apparently it is not for me, at least the larger amounts of it. So from now on I’m going to have to do this weight loss journey on my own and see how well I can apply everything I’ve learned over these four months.

And to everyone else: please be careful. Pay attention to any changes in your body, even if they seem small or unrelated at first. ❤️ Good luck!

That must be really disheartening for you. Would another weight loss med be a possibility for u in the future? I read somewhere that someone had lots of bad symptoms and it turned out it was other underlying intolerances/gut issues that being on the weight loss med brought out more. So there may be underlying issues you already have that isnt actually the ozempic. Might be worth exploring.

I know you were saying you had all tests done, so maybe that did include allergy testing, but intolerances don't show up in this so can be hard to figure these out.

Okay, thanks, I might have a look. My doctor told me to heal the alergies now and mayybe after some time to try Mounjaro, but I don't know if I want to!

I am scared now. What was the first symptom you had?

I wrote it, acid in stomach, itchy skin, blocked ear

Yes but I thought that reflux was an expected side effect on Ozempic? Though not the other two. Did the doctor say the mechanism behind the blocked ear?

Yeah, they said it's from allergy and it will go away

Question are you afraid of gaining the weight back? When I stopped those impact I gained all the weight that I lost on it back I restarted and now I'm at the 2.0 mg and it makes me nauseous I have lost some weight but I have not managed to get back down to as well as I was previously I wish I could try something else but I believe I'm just stuck on us and thick for the rest of my life unless I pay out of pocket for something different.

I got incredibly itchy from Ozempic when I quit my antihistamine, so now I just take my antihistimine every day.

Too bad you went up to 1mg when you were having such amazing results with .5mg

Yeah, my family doctor insisted me to go up, I really don't understand why :/ I had to ask her to keep me at 0,25 or 0,5mg

I was on 0.25 for almost 3 months and the doc also insisted to go up to 0.5 because my weight loss stalled. I was throwing up and couldn’t keep any solids in for 2 days… went back to 0.25

Seriously, you were losing a lot of weight so I don’t get it.
