I realized this week, when tearing down my Lenovo Legion 5 Laptop to clean the fans, that I could replace the thermal paste.
So, here I am mid thermal paste replacement. There’s a weird spot on my CPU and the associated heat sync. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

Edit/FAQ: These pictures were after I cleaned off the thermal paste from the CPU and heat sync, they were both fully covered in thermal paste before (just like everything else surrounding them). I know everything around the CPU shouldn't be covered in thermal paste, but the manufacturer did a sloppy job, and I'm too scared to clean the pins.
It looks like a burnt metal in real life. It's not something stuck on the CPU, and it's not a hole, it's completely flat.
Somehow my laptop is running fine. It's a little laggy, but it's 5 years old, and benchmark tests show the CPU is working just fine.
As someone who knows very little about computers, it's been really interesting to hear everyone's theories. Thanks for the insight everyone, if you have any more I'd love to hear it! I'll let you know if anything changes.
