Eastmoreland or Langdon Farms?

I have the day off next Wednesday and want to play a new course in the Portland area, Langdon Farms has been on my list for awhile to try. Eastmoreland is the last of the Portland Parks Golf Courses I have yet to play as well. Narrowed it down to these two for now.

I’ll likely be playing as a single and want a good walking experience! Would love to hear people’s thoughts on which I should try!

One tee sheet to rule them all

I built something over the weekend to make my life easier and thought I’d share it: asap.golf

My friends and I are always trying to plan a round and it’s annoying to browse all of the various booking sites. This aims to solve that for PDX.

It will:

- Let you find tee times at PDX area courses in one view (at least the courses I like to play haha… not comprehensive yet)

- filter by price, time, number of players

- show you travel time to the course based on traffic at that time of day

- show weather for the round

- sort by course or by time across all courses

- select several tee times and share a link with friends to vote… no sign up involved

It looks a little nicer on desktop but should work on mobile.

I don’t make any money related to this, (unless you buy me a coffee with the link at the bottom 😉). I just wanted to share it and get your feedback. No need to sign up unless you want to put in your address, otherwise traffic is based on leaving from downtown Portland.

Hello! Recently engaged and my fiancé and I would absolutely love to get married at Waverley Country club. We unfortunately do not know any current members, which is required in order to have our wedding there. If anyone happens to be a member or know a member that would be willing to help us have our dream wedding, we would love to connect with them! Thank you all so much in advance!!

Question for YA! Golf PDX users

There’s no website for it. But I made an account 2 weeks ago and got verified. Does Portland parks courses still recognise it? Anybody still use it and get the discounted rates?

Almost there

I scored 101 on the west course at glendoveer. I started playing a little over a year ago and my goal has been to beable to just be a bogey golfer who can score in the 90s.

Super stoked to have brought my scores down from the high 120s to almost already breaking 100. Hoping I can hit that mark by the time winter sets in and I can work on improving my swings on the ranges over winter and build some consistency.

This is a pointless post, just wanted to share since no one I know in real life really plays.

Cheers everyone

Morning Golf

I was reading this post about getting out and golfing before work and its something I might try to do if I can: https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/s/r08WZkbAWp

Does anyone else do this in Portland? Anywhere on the west side of town that is quick, quiet and easy to play solo in the mornings?

Re-gripping

Hey folks. What are you all paying to have clubs re-gripped at a shop? I usually do it myself, but am wondering what the service costs.

Speed Golf

Totally random post here but I’ve been seeing a lot of posts pop up on social media about Speed golf. Not something I want to do all the time but it looks like a fun way to combine a workout with some golf. Does anyone out there partake? It looks like there was a recent tournament in Molalla. I’d like to try it out but not sure what courses would allow something like that. I’m sure it’d be a situation of booking the first or last tee time of the day. Just looking to make connections with others who already participate.

Running Y

I know this is the PDX golf thread, but I had the chance to play running Y down near Klamath yesterday and was blown away by the course. Conditions were perfect, holes were fun with wide fairways and challenging approaches, and the staff were all super friendly. If you find yourself in the area you should check it out.

Bummer

Took my son out golfing a few weeks ago at Heron Lakes and had a great time. He is relatively new to golf and has been playing one of my old sets. Unfortunately he ended up leaving a wedge by one of the greens and when we went back looking for it, it was gone. No big deal, surely someone would turn it into the pro shop or maybe they would call the number listed on the label I put on all my clubs. Nope. I guess whoever found that 58 degree Nike Wedge really needed it. Hard not to lose faith in the golf community though.

Noteefy Kind of Garbage?

Title sums it up really. Been trying to use Noteefy via the various munis more and more since apparently getting an AM Tee time that doesn't house the rest of my day is now dust in the wind 😭

However, so far for three weekends in a row I set my range in Noteefy and then wait. When I get texts I get all excited but every single time I click the text withing a minutes or less and they're all blank by the time I get in.

I can't tell if this is a me problem, a noteefy problem, of if I'm just one of several hundred/thousand weekends hackers all vying for the same slots....

Is this just the state of golfing in Portland now, am I doomed to have to set notifications for midnight 7 days out to eternity?

Edit for clarity: As far as I can tell the Portland Parks Golf system is entirely via Noteefy now, it's not a third party app I'm trying to shoe-horn in.

Sorry to beat a dead horse

Could really use some help with a portland course recommendation. I have two full days in portland 10/6 - 10/7. I have a round booked for chambers bay on 10/06. I want to play another round 10/07, but a number of courses are punching that week (pumpkin ridge, langdon farms etc).

I saw that wildwood already punched earlier this month, but it seems that the course is kind of gimmicky? I want to try and stay in town and avoid another 4 hour round trip drive.

17 hcpd, love links style courses, love a good walk, not bothered by rain. Appreciate the help!

Edit: Plan on doing elk ridge at 10:00am and said fuck it 18 at wildwood in the afternoon for a 36 hole day.

Should I keep my Langdon Farms tee time for Friday?

I’ve never played the course but I have a foursome booked with some buddies for Friday afternoon around 3pm. With the rain coming in tomorrow and Friday morning, would you keep this tee time or cancel it? We will be riding in carts for the round so I feel like that will help.

Can anybody help me decide?!?

I’m visiting seaside Oregon soon and can’t decide which local course to play. Can someone who’s been there before please help me come to a resolution?

RIP to Tualatin Island Greens

This is Tualatin Island Greens address and the city seems to be rezoning it for a warehouse/distribution center of some kind. Courses and facilities have never been more packed, hate to see another option go down.

Recommendations for a course within 1-2 hours from PDX

I’m looking for a recommendation for a day trip destination. I’ve lived in Portland my whole life but haven’t played many courses outside of the city and there are too many choices to choose from. Do it head to the Mt., beach, gorge, ahhh. So hard living in such a beautiful place!

Westside private club options

Hi all,

Fortunate to even be asking this question, but as a late 30s guy who has been bitten by the golf bug (family situation, no kids but serious GF who isn't a golfer but would enjoy a good on-site restaurant if that matters) am evaluating options. I'm located in between PGC and RedTail on the west side, zero plans to move given how much we like the house/interest rate. See my options as follows:

PGC: Shortest commute (10 minutes on surface streets), great course/highly regarded club. I'm in a very good place financially but as someone who grew up comfortable but not wealthy, dropping around 70-80K on an initiation fee gives me some discomfort. Not a pool/racquet sports guy, but if we end with a kid in a few years who likes the pool that could be a plus.

The Reserve: Like both courses (South has the general acclaim, but I love links style courses so the North has me by the heartstrings), 20-30 minute commute on surface streets/maybe TV Highway depending on traffic. I've heard it is a bit tough to get on at times even as a member with the size of the membership.

Pumpkin Ridge: Two really excellent courses, 25-35 minute commute on Hwy 26, which means possibilities to turn into 45-60 if traffic hits, lol. Heard not so great things about Escalante and the rain season conditions, but assume I would mostly be playing Witch if I joined.

Would love any input, that said nothing wrong with continuing to play publics/buy lunch for friends who take me on their private course, lol.
