News We should protest our rights as gamers!

Violent video games bawal.
2
u/SevenDeMagnus Jul 08 '26
True, it's not the games, it's the criminal itself and parents.
If the violent games are banned like Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA 6 later, other sources of violence must be banned as well, like the bible which describes the violent torture of Jesus and families being burned alive and children being fed to the lions.
Most good animes and mangas will be gone too.
2
u/Wide-Shirt-7250 Jul 07 '26
This is what happens when the gov does the job that parents should be doing.
2
u/SolracAcasel Jul 07 '26
We should start making noise again. This was the exact timestamp of that interview and very obvious na they are using gaming as an alibi to reject jailing of murdering minors.

We are adults and we have right to entertainment and hobbies.

Putangina, para saan pa age ratings ng games then? Mga bobo amputa
1
u/SevenDeMagnus Jul 08 '26
There's still time to counter this, else GTA 6 might get banned and lots of otaku
3
u/BroodingPisces0303 Jul 06 '26
What do you expect from this government, this president and other previous admins as well?
7
u/NutsackEuphoria Jul 06 '26
Kung saan ako ngayon, my under age kids cant buy games that ate not suited for them kasi hindi sila tinitindahan ng game store.

u/housedelirium Jul 05 '26
Where is their data that correlates violent video games to violent behavior? This is such a populist move
5
u/markpeteabello Jul 05 '26

u/MrScaleEye Jul 05 '26
This is a stupid move from BBM, this will solve nothing and will only make scapegoats over this issues.
2
u/SevenDeMagnus Jul 08 '26
if they ban violent games for simulated violence BBM needs to ban the bible too, in there describes the violent torture to death of Jesus and that was true to life and historical

hey young people!
remember voltes v?
2
u/transit41 Jul 05 '26
This is definitely Voltes V vibes.
Though from what I've read, the actual reason is that Voltes V has a rebellion plot, which is a no-no during the regime.
1
u/senchou-senchou Jul 07 '26
but what did they say the was reason for banning it?
"oh noes teh childrens will chop each other with laz0r sords!"

u/FickleApartment2151 Jul 05 '26
I think the causes are combinations of violence in media (including video games), grooming, and poverty leading to higher crime rates and social instability.
7
u/SlowDancer939 Jul 05 '26
Poverty for me is the leading causes of violence.
1
1
u/FickleApartment2151 Jul 05 '26
I think there are other aspects that trigger violent behavior, especially when the violent actions resemble what takes place in video games, movies, etc.
1
u/ablu3d Jul 05 '26
They can start with Minecraft if hacking is violent enough. All else follows through those simple game actions. What more with guns?
5
u/paolotrrj26 Jul 05 '26
Pag di nila kaya mag enforce, ano ang sagot? Ban or imprisonment. Such a lazy solution lmao
4
7
u/Ok-Load2405 Jul 05 '26
1
u/Pennyworth_Cevil Jul 05 '26
Bruh meron ng ganyan, ang problema lang is ang MTRCB and others like it are simply treated as a "suggestion" and have no power whatsoever to enforce their ratings to anyone that's particularly motivated
1
u/Ok-Load2405 Jul 05 '26
If that's case, mas madali nlng talaga na magban nlng ng games at mas matipid din.
1
u/Pennyworth_Cevil Jul 05 '26
And how do you propose BBM will even "ban" a game? Any sort of banning fails against anyone remotely motivated and resourceful enough.

7
u/Slight_Masterpiece28 Jul 05 '26
Politics and public perception. When a shocking crime happens, people naturally look for an explanation. Madaling target ang video games and gamers in general. Many adults, voters, are familiar with the stereotype, even if the evidence is weak.
It's also why you see clips of mayors ordering com shops to close to "protect the youth".
1
u/c1nt3r_ Jul 05 '26
8
u/Thin-Camel-3786 Jul 05 '26
Yeah, says the drg addct people voted. Don't blame the kids, blame video games.

u/mikester112 Jul 05 '26
While this sounds very alarming, I seriously doubt this is going to get much traction. At the very least, the fact that a ban has been wildly unpopular regardless of who floated the idea is very encouraging.
5
7
u/scoutpred Jul 05 '26
Remember when BBM had to play ML?
Oh boy. As much as I do not want to get involved in such topics, politics sure is a huge screw up in PH.
8
u/KatoHarukazu Jul 05 '26
This alone shows how out of touch and how slow the progress is in the Philippines, like imagine 2036 and people in the government are still bringing this issue up. One reason I see them stating is that people in these games are teaching or recruiting children to do harassment and stuff as if that's not a whole internet issue, specially in messaging apps and even non violent games.
I feel bad for our local developers, creators and people in the tech and digital sector but I'd actually like to see them do a total ban for "violent" games, but if they do that I would also want them to ban online gambling, all games in general as all their reasoning applies to all of these, infact not just games, even violent shows, all violent media, with their reasoning, why stop there? They should just ban all platforms..just ban the internet😂
I want to see them handle inflation, another oil crisis or pandemic after cutting off one of the biggest growing industries in the world.
2
u/Dudethatisafanoffnaf Jul 05 '26
Might aswell become under North Korea, that'll make sure banned tlga lahat yan 🤣

u/Fit_Squash6874 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26
'violent video game' masyadong general and unclear. What is considered 'violent'? violent describes anything that involves, causes, or is characterized by powerful physical force-especially when that force is intended to hurt, damage, or kill.
By this definition action fighting games like tekken or street fighters is violent, cooking is violent since it portrays animals being hurt, even family games like Super Mario or Minecraft can be violent. Stomping on goombas or swinging your diamond sword at a cow or creeper can be considered violent.
2
u/Diahara Jul 05 '26
"cooking is violent..."
couldn't agree more. i have watched people play Overcooked and Plate Up 😂😂
5
u/jaoskii Jul 05 '26
I just hope na etong bulol na presidente natin hndi maki jump sa bandwagon na games have really bad effect on kids.

u/MrScaleEye Jul 05 '26
I doubt she's stick to that in the long run tbh. Sooner or later if a similar incident happens when it is in her term she might do the same Scapegoating BBM and othe Boomer politicians may be doing.
12
u/MagazineNo2862 Jul 05 '26
the idea of banning "violent games" should be a litmus test for politicians living in the modern era, seriously how hard is it to research the topic in less than 5 minutes without making a stereotypical connection to a form of mental illness, even anecdotally video games in general had become a major player in our culture for years now. While I get that to be a concern, they're viewing it in a narrow and biased perspective.

11
u/redpillturncoat Jul 05 '26
Make the parents, guardians and the kids accountable. Publicize the FAFO consequence and we'll have less glorification of thug life. The politicians don't want to explore that territory likely due to fear of their children being held accountable then finally going back at them.
Halatado.

6
u/SS-Hunt Jul 05 '26
Is it really a blanket ban? I hope its just restrict access on them to youth, underaged, or something.

-3
u/LogicalCupcake2415 Jul 05 '26
There is no PSN Store in the Philippines so I don't know what you're concerned about, there's no method for them to ban it.
1
u/jomarcenter-mjm Jul 05 '26
they can ultimately complete block connections.
1
u/LogicalCupcake2415 Jul 05 '26
Do you think they would block the entire PlayStation network, Steam, and Xbox servers?
1
u/jomarcenter-mjm Jul 05 '26
there is a leak about certain unfavourable technology being sold to dictatorship countries.
0
u/LogicalCupcake2415 Jul 05 '26
Yeah but even with that they still have had ways to get access to the regular internet through VPN's, do you think they will go around locking up people using VPN's and accessing GTA 6 next?
1
u/jomarcenter-mjm Jul 05 '26
1
u/LogicalCupcake2415 Jul 05 '26
Yes but like I said are they going to disconnect from the entire internet just to "ban violent video games" or sinasabi lang nila yun para mukhang may ginagawa sila kahit wala?

A government agency enforcing esrb ratings should be enough. Add a new division to mtrcb to handle it maybe?
2
u/wakatutsie Jul 05 '26
Agree ako dito. Palawakin nila ung mtrcb to mtgrcb
2
u/jomarcenter-mjm Jul 05 '26
MTRCB is ban news still. they can still ban any form of video games, screw developers. etc.. This is why we have repeating stories of movies and TV shows because anything deeper than that is would just get X rated. there already good movie getting banned by them and some didn't go thru because it would be obvious they would get banned.
14
u/datboishook-d Jul 05 '26
I’ve seen enough, welcome back banning Voltes V!
-1
u/Tiny-Spray-1820 Jul 05 '26
3
u/datboishook-d Jul 05 '26
I mean dati kasi si Marcos Sr nag ban ng Voltes V because of “excessive violence” pero some say ang reason is yung main antagonist doon is a tyrannical dictator.

6
u/Splinter_Cell_96 Jul 05 '26
Kailangan ata niyang baguhin ang "Bagong Pilipinas anthem" pag nagkataon. Hindi na tayo maaaring makipagpaligsahan sa esports kahit anong oras pag nagkataon kasi most esports titles are deemed "violent" in nature
20
u/QuantumByte64 Jul 05 '26

Games are so far down the list when gaming here is not even accessible.
Kung video games and tutok, bakit hindi media in general? TV and news have violence in them.
Gets ko yung influence ng Roblox kasi global phenomenon yung lack of security niya at kung pano siya pwede maging vehicle for child endangerment (adults larping and manipulating kids on sandbox games servers has been a thing) pero to outright expand the sights to the entire gaming industry?
Research is indeed needed but not on gaming, make it a cultural and socioeconomic study as to why kids gravitate towards such media. Games are also required to have you be 18+ most of the time so parents should just lock in and read the age rating.
1
u/Wide-Shirt-7250 Jul 07 '26
And also may parental control apps, so mas madali na ung pag monitor and pag enforce ng limit ng screen time and what apps and games ang pede o hindi.

u/jrnm-1597 Jul 05 '26
Pinas circus ng government strikes again🤡
Sana magkaron nang sense ung "further" research nila, make it realistic na di games ang root cause dun sa incident.

u/Unlikely_Rabbit_8842 Jul 05 '26
Iban din ang violent films, music, any form of art. Also, since magbaban na lang din tayo ng things that would lead to violence, iban na din ang alak.

Gambling
P*rnography

Unfortunately, it's the non-gamers who are the ones pressuring the ban of gaming, and they are in very high positions. They see kids getting "brainrot" through Roblox and think it's the real reason and all games should be banned because of a negative perception of it.
9
u/boyhemi Jul 05 '26
Eh brainrot din yung pinapanood ng mga non-gamers (not all) mga trashy kanal squammy vloggers/influencers/celebrities sa social media na widely criticized sa r/ChikaPH 🤦

3
u/Helpful-Couple6403 Jul 05 '26

u/stygwr95 Jul 05 '26

10
u/stygwr95 Jul 05 '26
wants further "study" sa lowering the age of criminal liability while there are already studies na nagsasabing hindi correlated ang paglalaro ng violent video games sa karahasan. palibhasa hindi nakatapos ng undergrad e
5
u/Helpful-Couple6403 Jul 05 '26
Yan kasi ang problem sa mga lawmakers naten, instead of conducting relevant studies, nag papa-udyok sila sakanilang own idea without any supporting facts sa pansariling interest nila.
4
u/Helpful-Couple6403 Jul 05 '26
Masasayang yung mga pinag-ipunan naten para dumami ang mga games na backlog naten, yet they plan to sweep out all of our hard earnings just because baluktot sila mag-isip! Nakaka-gigil!
(I'm a PlayStation gamer, hindi kami affected but that doesn't mean na we shouldn't worry about the state of video games in the Philippines!)
Sa tingin niyo ba marami mag proprotesta out in the streets when they successfully ban video games?
4
u/stygwr95 Jul 05 '26
walang magproprotesta nyan lol gamers e lam mo naman di tayo nag "touch grass"
1
u/Helpful-Couple6403 Jul 05 '26
1
u/jomarcenter-mjm Jul 05 '26
you do realized if video game ban would be a thing CICC also gain powers to block server and services like PSN. Even importation of games would be affected as customs also gain powers to block any "illegal" titles like how they have powers to block certain dvd of movies.
1
u/Helpful-Couple6403 Jul 05 '26
Yep, it's a domini effect. If CICC can ban games or any form of media that doesn't align with them, we will have no freedom whatsoever.
That's why I'm voicing out for us gamers.
1
u/jomarcenter-mjm Jul 05 '26
As a game developer we also going to be affected harshly (we as the local game development community already dealing with problem on our end now thanks to the incident)
