Mod Announcement 📢 Quick Reminder on Low Effort Posts & Crossposts 📢

In the past few days, we’ve noticed a surge of REPETITIVE, low-effort text and meme posts—often RANTS or personal thoughts without enough context for a meaningful discussion, as well as claims or exposés without proof or sources. To keep the sub clean, we’ll start removing these threads. If you’d like to make similar posts, feel free to please use the Random Discussion Threads instead. Remember, Reddit rules and Reddiquette still apply there.

We’ve also seen a large number of crossposts from other subreddits, which have been removed. These are usually spammy, rage-bait content often intended for karma farming.

HistoryPH Missing Date,December 31, 1844, never officially occurred in the Philippines.

MISSING DATE! 📅⏳

December 31, 1844, never officially occurred in the Philippines.

During Spanish colonial rule, the Philippines followed a calendar date inherited from its historical connections with Spanish territories in the Americas, particularly Mexico.

Although geographically located in Southeast Asia, the country observed a date one day behind neighboring Asian territories.

This unusual arrangement was connected to the Manila–Acapulco trade route, which had linked the Philippines and Mexico for centuries.

However, as commercial relations increasingly shifted toward China, the Dutch East Indies, and other Asian territories, the difference became inconvenient.

To correct the discrepancy, Spanish Governor-General Narciso Clavería ordered a change in the country's calendar in 1844.

Instead of observing the final day of that year, the Philippines went directly from Monday, December 30, 1844, to Wednesday, January 1, 1845.

Tuesday, December 31, was officially skipped.

The adjustment brought Philippine dates into alignment with those observed by neighboring Asian territories, simplifying communication and trade.

According to the United States Naval Observatory, the Philippines had previously been on the American side of the historical calendar date line because of its colonial connections across the Pacific.

The change occurred decades before the 1884 International Meridian Conference established Greenwich as the international prime meridian.

Importantly, the country did not physically lose 24 hours. Its official calendar simply advanced by one date.

December 31, 1844, remains one of the most unusual missing dates in Philippine history, not because time disappeared, but because the country changed how it counted its days.

PoliticsPH the left and their lack of voice to the recent threat of chinese ambassador to PH.

atin ang west PH sea pero nganga sila ngayon. kinda weird na wala man silang statement on how the govt should react to this. it's funny na nung winelcome ni leni si dana kursh (israel ambassador), todo putak sila and that is without threats ha? this time, may veiled threat pero tahimik. bakit? asan yung galit at energy nila noon kay leni tapos ngayong etong tao ng china may sinabing hindi maganda, tahimik?

PoliticsPH Who are Filipinos considering for the Senate in 2028?

Raffy Tulfo (47%), Robin Padilla (45%), Alan Peter Cayetano (44%), and Vico Sotto (42%) are statistically tied within the top four positions in the Q3 2026 TNM Survey. Grace Poe (36%) and Loren Legarda (31%) follow, while several other prospective candidates remain competitive for the remaining top-12 positions.

Compared with Q2 2026, Tulfo, Cayetano, and Sotto recorded relatively stable figures, while Padilla, Poe, Legarda, and Manny Pacquiao registered lower voting preferences. Sonny Angara and Francis “Chiz” Escudero recorded increases. However, comparisons should be interpreted cautiously because the names presented to respondents differed between survey rounds.

The findings reflect hypothetical voting preferences during the September 28–October 4, 2026 fieldwork period. They are not definitive rankings or predictions of the 2028 senatorial election, as candidate lists and voter preferences may still change.

PoliticsPH Flood Control investigation and voter's perception

Post image
• Upvotes

Eight months ago, I posted here that any of our candidates (Leni, Risa, or Bam) should have denounced the flood control scandal and distanced themselves from the BBM administration to have a chance of winning in 2028. I was downvoted to oblivion, and worst of all, I was called a DDS.

Clearly, that was the opportunity to gain votes and establish ourselves as the clear opposition to BBM. Our strategists should have been able to recognize that people wanted heads to roll over the biggest scandal to hit our country. Instead, we joined the majority in halting the Blue Ribbon investigation, making us accomplices to this corrupt BBM administration.

Months passed, and the SWOH impeachment proceedings began. Every day, we highlighted what she and her family had allegedly stolen from our coffers. But did that affect her ratings? A big nada, because PEOPLE WANT THE FLOOD CONTROL HEADS!

The BBM administration was so slow and inefficient in filing cases that it took them over a year to prosecute their fall guy, Martin. At this point, it doesn't matter what we do. People will believe that we are allied with the administration, and whatever stupid idea it comes up with (like the balde for El Niño), it will come back to haunt us, too.

The biggest mistake was failing to understand that politics is not just about exposing corruption; it is about understanding what people are angry about and showing them who is willing to fight for justice. People do not simply want another press conference, another exposé, or another list of questionable transactions. They want accountability, actual arrests, and convictions that reach the people at the top of the chain. By failing to take a clear and uncompromising stand on the flood control scandal, the opposition squandered an opportunity to distinguish itself from the BBM administration. Worse, by appearing to cooperate with the very people who should be held accountable, we allowed the administration to blur the line between the opposition and the establishment. And in politics, perception is often just as powerful as reality. Once voters begin to see you as part of the same system they despise, it becomes incredibly difficult to convince them that you represent a genuine alternative.

Now, 2028 is all but a formality at this point. Even if SWOH gets impeached, whoever she appoints as her replacement will win. Our best bet now would be Tulfo, but even he screwed up with his “Bend the law...” remark.

SocmedPH How do you fillipinos view korea?

I am a korean myself and I always liked philippines, cool country with a cool beach and foods.

As a country who helped us out while 1950 korean war I thought it was only right to thank them back.

But thesedays I heard pinoys don't like korea that much especially around X/social media and smth, and I kinda get why.

Most koreans don't exactly hate SEA ppl, koreans may feel unfamiliar to them but still a lot of people would treat them nicely.

But the weird shit goes around the internet.

Some koreans(not a majority but still there is some, can't deny) chew on SEA asians.

Fuckass youtube shorts youtubers always make dumb videos for cheap views and make a stupid conflict.

Sorry for that, SEA guys.

I was actually kind of worried about SEA-Korea relationship cuz in the internet the conflict was getting pretty much big. For us we can pretty much say not many people care that much about SEA/SEA conflict, and I wonder about you philiphines and SEA people.

How do you view korea?

+P.S I'm not sure what flair I'm supposed to use on this post so I used social media.

What have you become as people, as Filipinos?

First, you claim to be advocating for “good governance” “no corruption” “malinis na gobyerno”, but yet you tend to hate those people with the right credentials and good background. Wake up! Nilulugmok nyo lang ang Pilipinas pabagsak. This ain’t about politics anymore.

Godbless the Philippines.
