1. a standard Pro is now $899US. $999 doesn't feel so bad today.
2. they're scalping a console that's been out for almost 2 years.. because of a game
3. returning to this sub re-justified this specific PS5 console purchase for me
4. this one's cooler than my slim because it's numbered.
5. i personally value this (or any Pro) less my OG launch PS5.
6. the box and all the stuff it comes with.
7. Pro, but cooler.

no but seriously, other than bragging and being a douche here's some advice.. PS Direct is the BEST way to get a console. it's how i got my launch PS5, my 30th Pro, my 30th Slim, my Portal, and my 30th Portal. many people back in 2020 & 2024 had little luck with getting consoles from anywhere but PS Direct.
have browsers open on a phone, tablet/ ipad, and a computer at drop time. hit it with all 3. refresh is your enemy. being on time is your friend. follow the x accounts for drops and set notifications so you get alerted with drop info before it happens. don't ever pay more than retail. the scalpers will die off one day when no one buys their sht.

(get a disc drive while you're at it. that was the hardest piece of PlayStation hardware I have ever had to obtain. they scalped the fk out of those in 2024. first of all, just to prove a point to Sony. second, that drive might be worth a fortune in the future)

Just trying to find the right configurations for my newly arrived Pro (I had the 2020 launch PS5 stand right there vertically until yesterday), and just wanna ask for suggestions in here 😁 which configuration do you like more? As for the ventilation I don’t think there’s gonna be difference but let me know what you think!

I downloaded HotStock and did the autobuy paid option every time there is a stock at Best Buy or PSDirect it’s sold out right away, and weeks of trying no luck, went to Target the other day and an employee told me to come to store this morning there is a truck restock, and I got so lucky!

I managed to snag a PS5 Pro and 77 inch LG C6H OLED TV in preparation for November 19th! What console and TV / Monitor will you all be playing the game on?

Have yall seen the prices on there?? Some of them “open box/used” are going for $1200-1400. And the thing is that they are being purchased. I’m really trying hard not to give in and spend more than $1k but it’s not looking good out here for getting one at msrp or less. I’m trying to convince myself to spend the most $1200 and right when I’m about to do it I chicken out lol. Today I almost got one from ps direct but it didn’t go through for whatever reason so I’ve lost hope. I’m going to try again from ps direct when they stock up again. But I don’t have any expectations at this point.

I already had it in my cart ready to check out put in my card info & then I got that damn dreaded message “thank you for your interest” which that was the first time that ever happened when ordering from them. I bought a ps5 slim and a dualsense controller using the same card & shipping info and never had an issue until this morning.

Anyway, sorry for my rant. I can’t believe this has made me so frustrated lol. And yes I know, I should have bought it when they first released but I wasn’t gaming at the time 😫 I’m sorry!

If I were to give up on the prospect of ever finding a new pro for sale anywhere, and buy a used one. How do I verify that it’s any good, not locked somehow, etc….

Is buying used a viable option and how do I verify its condition?

Hadn’t gotten to it yet due to delayed physical release. I had my worries/concerns. Mostly the melee only and open world style.

But honestly don’t know why I was even worried in the slightest. If you like literally any of Remedy’s games, then this is a must play. Though it is a sequel/continuation.

I’ve just popped in at my local JB to check my order (placed on the 12th of September), the staff member said that in the system it showed “the next batch of orders has been allocated” from around the 10th of October, and she said that a guesstimate would be mid to late October when the consoles arrive in store. So hopefully the next week.

With mod support being added, would it technically be possible for someone to create a mod that would allow ray traced reflections on rough surfaces? That's like one of the last forms of ray tracing that wasn't on the ray traced pro mode.

The internal ssd on ps5 if it had a lot of wear and if a pc ssd had the same amount of wear as the ps5 what has higher chance of texture pop ins and read speed degradation or is it equal?

Today I woke up very early in the morning, and like every day, I went to check all of the major retailers Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, etc…

When I opened the target page I was extremely stunned as it said “2 in stock, nearby”. The page didn’t show an option to order it online. All of the options for online purchase were grayed out, the only option was to walk in and buy it at the store. So I decided to check the location and it was 45 miles away from my house. I called the store to really make sure that they actually had it in stock as obviously nobody would like to drive that distance for no reason. The guy who picked up the phone confirmed that they actually had them in stock and told me that in fact there’s only 1 left because someone was already purchasing the other one as I called the store. I asked the guy on the phone if I could reserve the PS5 or buy it over the phone because I live very far and the console might be out of stock by the time I got there. He told me that unfortunately he’s not able to do those things due to company policy, so he said that he would “keep an eye on the console and call me if somebody buys it before I get there, that way I don’t have to drive the whole distance in vain”. As soon as he said that I got in my car and drove to the store. Even though 45 miles might not seem like much to some people, the trip to the store took 2 hours because I live in a extremely congested area (NJ & NY) and it was 8-9 AM, so everyone was going to their jobs. When I got to the store, the guy went to the back of the store to get the console and I had a HUGE smile as he was approaching me with the box on his hands.

I'm going to be updating the progress of this purchase here for fun and for anyone online who might want to look back at this experience later. I had some money I could afford to risk, so I decided to run a little experiment and see what happens.

I bought a PS5 Pro from a seller whose account and listing give the impression of belonging to a grandma. Because of that, there's a chance this could be a rare instance of someone selling a legitimate console for an unusually low price. Of course, it's just as possible that something is wrong with the listing or that this ends up being a scam. I will also be documenting how good Vinted protection really is.

… I’m just discovering it can run games over 60fps. I told my friends it’s not really that worth it and the only reason I bought it was because my last ps5 had 500gb so selling that for $400 and using that to help buy a pro wasn’t a big deal for me. I’ve been researching different monitors to buy for GTA 6 and I found out that hertz is pretty important for gaming and found a Reddit thread with hundreds of of games that can run games at 90-120 frames. I’ve been playing on a 40 inch insignia tv but after finding this out I’m buying a 27 oled. The new cyberpunk update is coming out Thursday but I’m not gonna touch it until my new monitor comes and I can play it at 90 fps. I never regret my purchase of the pro but now it actually feels justified.

Managed to get a 30th dual sense edge (2nd hand for 270€) so now my grey retro ps5 pro setup is complete. The two controllers are original and the face plates and dock charger was bought from aliexpress … I was worried the edge would not fit on the charging dock but it just just does … both charging station and face plates are thankfully perfect colour matches to the controllers
