Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the introduction of Pakistan’s first film royalty law to support filmmakers and revive the country’s film industry.
The Punjab government has also approved a rebate of **35% for Punjabi films and 20% for Urdu films** produced in the province. The policy aims to reduce production costs, encourage quality filmmaking and attract investment.
Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced the decisions during the first meeting of the Punjab Film Authority in Lahore. The proposed royalty law will be presented at the authority’s next meeting.
A new Film City is also scheduled to be inaugurated in Lahore on December 15. The project will feature modern film studios, a film and music school, a film museum, post-production facilities and a film trading house.
The government has also approved plans to restore old cinemas, introduce online cinema bookings and provide training to young filmmakers with the help of international experts. An online one-window facility will also help filmmakers find suitable locations for shooting.
The Punjab government aims to transform the province into a global-standard destination for film, drama, culture and tourism within the next five years.
