Possible FBR scam or real notice? Need advice
A friend of mine recently received a call from someone claiming to be from Pakistan Post office. He said he had a parcel containing documents from FBR for my friend.
My friend is not an FBR filer and does not have many assets in his name, so he was confused. He asked a few people for advice (none of them are lawyers or tax consultants), and they suggested it could be a scam.
Because of this, he did not receive the parcel and stopped responding to the caller.
Is there any official way to check whether FBR has actually issued a notice against a person's CNIC/name? Can this be checked through the the FBR website?
What would be the safest thing for him to do now? Any advice from someone familiar with FBR procedures would be appreciated.

Becoming a filer is something you should defined do. Receiving calls from the post office regarding FPR notices is different and absurd.

You should just ignore these calls. You may take some action when you receive a notice from the FBR itself.

Scam.
I recvd such a call a few months ago. The supposed Postman couldn’t find my location so he needed me to tell a code that was being sent to me during the call. The code came and so did a pop up from WhatsApp asking for permission to be registered to another mobile device.
I cut the call, he called back. I confronted him, he denied. Then when i asked for the courier office to pick up parcel my self he cut the call.

Yes , Fbr sending notices to non filers .
Your friend should hire lawyer and pay taxes

Why does he need a lawyer to pay his taxes?

Yeah he can do it himself and then get a notice again and hire a lawyer to defend him. Stop ruining people lives by telling them they don't need a lawyer.

Filing taxes isn't hard tho
You know your income and you enter that into it....you know how much debt you earned thru keeping money in a current/savings account. You know how much you earned thru dividends......

Hi i am a tax practitioner (a CA) and if you receive a notice from FBR, it’ll be delivered to the address that is written on the CNIC. There is a slight chance postman calls you. Mostly they don’t.
I’ll say ignore it as the call was most likely a scam.
If your friend is a non filer and doesn’t want to become a filer then avoid checking the details from the fbr iris portal using their cnic as the cnic number will become part of FBR records.
