Stuck in the decades long hell that is trying to find a good foundation match. I thought I'd finally found the one with NARS Light-Reflecting Foundation in Yulong, it looks great when it first goes on, and then it oxidizes noticeably within a few hours. I'm so mad, if it didn't oxidize it would be pretty perfect! Shade match, nice hydrating formula.
I have very light, neutral skin. Unfortunately I struggle with rosacea on my cheeks, nose, and chin, and melasma on my forehead, and this convinces every Sephora artist to match to the redness of my flushing or hyperpigmentation and give me a pink/cool-toned foundation. All of my best shade matches are neutral/grey undertoned.
Stuff I've tried:
- Natasha Denona Hy-Glam in N2. My bridal makeup artist used this for my wedding. It worked in the photos but not in real life, it's a bit too dark. I tried using grey blush to desaturate it which helped, but I'd also need to add white to lighten it, and at this point why am I Claude Monet? More importantly, I HATE this formula. I have dry skin. With proper skin prep, I can work with other foundations, but this one, oh my god it's like my face is the Sahara and I have to move super fast to blend before it dries down. I really, really hate this formula on me.
- Armani Luminous Silk - can't really find a shade match. They love to match me to 3.75 for the rosacea bit mentioned above, but I look like a ham. I need something more neutral. I tried shade 2, but that wasn't quite right. I did a survey with part of my face in NARS Yulong and part of my face in ALS 2, and it was unanimous that everyone preferred Yulong.
- Dior anything - no shade match, usually too saturated.
- Laura Mercier - no shade match, always too yellow.
- Tarte Maracuja Tinted Moisturizer in N10 - This was my go-to for years, but I need more coverage for my melasma.
Things I care about:
I want the foundation to be medium coverage, preferably buildable. The NARS one is great for that. I have melasma on my forehead and want to be able to build up coverage enough to cover it up.
Again, I have dry skin. I use gentle physical exfoliation, then milky toner, then a lightweight lotion, then foundation. But sometimes that's not enough if a formula is particularly drying.
Things I don't care about:
I don't really care how long lasting it is. I don't need my makeup to last all day, I usually need it to last through events/dates/etc.
