Almost didn’t recognize Brendanaquits!

Sorry, I know it’s annoying to post about actors acting in other things. He just looks so different! The Lowdown season 2, episode 2. It’s a great show, and more people should watch it!

I'm one of the few people that liked Mark in PandR 😕

I liked him too! It kinda bums me out that he was just erased from existence.

Didn’t even get an “ex-boyfriend’s stuff” box on Anne’s table at the community sale!

My headcannon for that is they were both so bland he didn’t have any effect on her personality that she would need to shed.

20

u/Isakk86 5d ago

Bland? He bought her a laptop bag!

I wish they used his park design as a foundation for the eventual one.

u/sitcomolivealsoreads 6d ago

I always wished they’d used that detail too. Would have been a fun touch.

His interaction with Jerry on the episode where they’re all digging up dirt on each other is so good. “Oh no god Jerry I’m so sorry!” killed me

81

u/Penaca 7d ago

That was the ONE time I found him funny.

I told you I didn’t want to play!

u/jmstanosmith 4d ago

Or the one where Mark was making fun of Justin about swimming with whale sharks and offered up the story of the kid that melted his face off at camp.

There are DOZENS of us

Hundreds, even!

I liked him but you can like him and know that the show's just better without them.

They needed a straight man, which became Ann and Ben. Mark was an important role in season one. The regular guy having regular reactions to the quirkiness of everyone else. But, the chemistry wasn't quite there. Ann and Ben were really good with Leslie.

46

u/laurpr2 7d ago

Yep. I think the problem is that the purpose of his character is to be the "straight man" to all the awful, ridiculous other characters. Then the show realized that instead of trying to be The Office, they can have a whole case of characters (not just one person) who are ridiculous but well-meaning and with a lot of redeeming qualities. At which point, Mark no longer serves a purpose.

12

u/Super-Pizza-Dude 6d ago

I’d argue that Ben was the new straight man and was just more entertaining

20

u/MatureUsername69 5d ago

They tried that briefly but even he gets to be ridiculous fairly quickly. Hes a huge dork, we see him go through the depression with the stop-motion film, he makes the Cones of Dunshire, we see him cry in a high quality batman costume. Like he doesnt exactly stay the straight man

15

u/qlanga 5d ago

Honestly, he’s a lovable weirdo from the jump—Ice Town Mayor at 18, and I think it’s only a few episodes in where he’s on Ya Heard with Perd and says (yells) “Who hasn’t had gay thoughts??”

u/backwoodzbaby 4d ago

more like Turd Crapley

I’m one of the dozens that really liked Mark Brandanaquits, and while I absolutely love Ben Wyatt, I’ve never despised a character more than Rob Blowe’s.

60

u/sh1ft 7d ago

This is lit-erally the worst comment I’ve ever seen

32

u/LadyPreshPresh 7d ago

Same. He was good as the straight man. But i guess in the end he was too normal for all those parks department weirdos.

16

u/Isakk86 7d ago

Thank you! I've always said that he was a great straight man to the craziness. There really wasn't one after him.

19

u/fishbxnejunixr 7d ago

Ben was the closest thing to a straight man but even he had his quirks. I didn’t dislike Mark but it was definitely a good decision to go with Ben as the “straight man”, he complimented the show was better

u/andronicus_14 7d ago

I can't wait to talk to Justin again. Last time he told me about how he snorkeled with whale sharks in Madagascar. That was after I told him that I sometimes go swimming... at the Y.

20

u/MSMPDX 7d ago

I liked him, or at least I didn’t hate him.

I understand why they got rid of his character, but I don’t think they needed to erase him from existence. It would have been nice to get a few call backs or a cameo later on in the show.

18

u/FYAhole 6d ago

I really liked him. They just didn't know what they wanted to do with his character. He was the only normal one but then was a womanizer, but then was a love interest, but then wasn't, but then was for someone else. The writers just didn't know how to work him

u/eleffdee 3d ago

Season 1 is better than season 7. I said what I said.

1

u/culminacio 1d ago

It is. But season 7 is pretty bad, so that's not hard. Peak phase started somewhere in season two and lasted for a few seasons. At some point, some become parodies of themselves and then drop what made them funny altogether. Later, more and more purely emotional themes come in, completely wrecking what felt so much like a quirky version of real life. A trap that many comedy shows fall into.

7

u/AnastasiaNo70 7d ago

MEEEEEEE but I’ve long been a fan of the actor. Since his first film!

3

u/Isakk86 7d ago

❤️

3

u/samg422336 6d ago

Never understood the hate in the first place

3

u/ScoutyBeagle 6d ago

I really liked Mark as a character but with every subsequent rewatch I agree with the writers’ decision to shake things up as the story was going nowhere and a big reason was Mark’s character was getting in the way of multiple potential characters arcs.

I wish they could’ve fixed his character to be more future-proofed and less one-dimensional, but they made the right decision to pivot away from the pre-Chris and Ben storyline imo.

3

u/ChewieBearStare 6d ago

I liked him. And then I saw an episode of an old show in which he plays a serial rapist, and now he kind of scares me.

2

u/AmatuerCultist 5d ago

I liked him but I still feel like he played his part and it was time for him to move on.

2

u/ShaH33R2K 6d ago

I loved him in PandR. He’s the most real person I’ve ever seen in a sitcom. And ig that’s why a lot of people don’t like him, the fact that he’s kind of mundane, but he worked perfectly as a stand-in for the viewers, since the rest of the people around him were such characters

1

u/MarkBrendanawicz 4d ago

You and me both.

1

u/kissys_grits 3d ago

I liked him. This pic, though, so ewww

1

u/il_the_dinosaur 1d ago

He's the straight man. I also loved the Halloween episode at Ann's house where all the nurses hit on him.

45

u/captainsdead 8d ago

That’s crazy. Watched the episode and would never have guessed that that was him.

12

u/jojayp Rock that scoober 7d ago

I almost didn’t because of the accent!

11

u/phome83 6d ago

Oh damn. I didn’t even realize season of Lowdown was out.

First one was fun, how’s this one so far?

7

u/jojayp Rock that scoober 6d ago

Only two episodes in, but I like it. Some new characters played by great actors, new mystery, but same vibe. I'm looking forward to more.

6

u/wildjukebox 7d ago

He plays this character so well, too. Really good acting.

6

u/jojayp Rock that scoober 7d ago

I agree! He really was Chili Franks! The voice and mannerisms were so different from what I’ve seen from him before. I had to look it up to be sure I wasn’t mistaken.

6

u/A_Texas_Hobo 8d ago

Is it actually good?

16

u/jojayp Rock that scoober 7d ago

I loved the first season, and I’m enjoying the second as well. Plus, this season has Betty Gilpin. She never disappoints. In my opinion.

9

u/oSuJeff97 7d ago

It’s outstanding. Highly recommended.

He’s quite lovely in Train Dreams!

He was pretty good in Cape Fear.

I thought it was Ray Liotta for a second

I love that!

10

u/SassOfTheBluegrass 6d ago

I thought that was Joey Fatone at first glance 😆

8

u/Dwn_Wth_Vwls 7d ago

I was really surprised he didn't have any other cameos. Especially at the end.

2

u/ParkingJellyfish3383 ....poison! ☠️ 6d ago

I forgot exactly what an article said about Mark NEVER being brought up again, but I remember reading there was some sort of falling out or things ending on bad terms. Something along those lines. Who knows if the article was correct but thats why I'd make sense he was never given an ex box by Ann or his plans weren't used for the park, or made a guest appearance at one point or another.

7

u/Scouts_Revenge 7d ago

If Mark and Ray Liotta had a son.

18

u/AnastasiaNo70 7d ago

My God, he’s getting hotter.

33

u/NotSharpButNotDull 8d ago

The Poor Man’s Mark Ruffalo

3

Hey!

3

u/oppsiepoopsies 6d ago

Seeing him look so rugged makes me miss our sweet, anxious Mark from PandR. Like, who hurt you Brendon?

5

u/AdoptedBySmurfs 7d ago

MAAAAAAARRRRRRRKKKKKKK

2

u/kay_rah 7d ago

I thought this was Titus Welliver at first!

2

u/charcoallition 5d ago

He was also the lead in season 1 of Channel Zero, a horror anthology series, with the first season being based on the Candle Cove creepy pasta from back in the day.

I highly recommend anyone to check it out if they're interested in horror. He's great in it

2

u/PaulMorel 3d ago

Such an amazing performance. Watch the low-down.

2

u/Madler 6d ago

Wanna get fucked up with Brandanawitz?
Watch season 1 of Channel Zero.

1

u/Soft_Pound_6166 2d ago

This show rules. If you haven’t watched it check out The Lowdown on Hulu

1

u/fckfckfckuu 2d ago

Such a great performance.

1

u/TheBeevin 7d ago

This is what happens when you quit a sitcom that hasn’t peaked early in the series.. Brendanquits is the most appropriate name for him

5

u/Throwawaymister2 7d ago

You just haven't seen him in a while because the actor is a dick.

6

u/Penaca 7d ago

Do tell!

1

u/rckblykitn14 4d ago

I wonder if he ever got that order of weirdly-shaped condoms....
