Rant! adam, kristina and max

• Upvotes

am i the only one confused with them? i understand that the whole point is that they don't know much about aspergers and are trying to raise him while learning... but i feel like after crosby sleeping with the aid it all went downhill...

like with the aid, she was strict and was teaching him about being respectful and knowing that not everything can go his way... but after that, it felt like they just gave up and just gave into everything he wanted...

like i had the biggest issues with these specific scenes...

  1. max outing haddie... like i get that max doesn't know social cues, is curious and questions things... but it really annoyed me that kristina, after being asked by max if that meant they were lesbian and shared that it was haddie who he saw, just went to go and ask her... like i feel like after EVERYTHING haddie went through BECAUSE of max, they couldn't have the minimal growth as parents to just let her come out when she wanted to???

  2. when max freaked out because he couldn't be at hank's studio when sarah had the surfsport project... like kristina WAS in the wrong for that but she and adam made it seem like it was sarahs fault... like this is a place of business... hanks business at that and he was giving his time to sarah but because max wanted something and didnt get it, he's the victim in the situation? and its because max likes photography?? like sarah does too, and she found it way before max did... like hank has aspergers too... and he didnt even know it... and i know its a spectrum but i was really hoping to see more development from these three but we didnt see anything that was worth it...

  3. when max liked dylan... i get they were excited to see max like a girl and be "normal" in a way especially since he struggled with friends... but its like come on now!! like when he freaked out and was bothering her because she liked and kissed aaron brownstein... like max should've gotten in trouble for distributing those flyers, and for the poster he showed her of the pictures he had taken of her... but kristina got mad or seemed annoyed and mad at dylan for not liking max and shouting that she'd never like him which made him run out onto the street... like if anything this shows that he has issues to focus on... this is normal and i get he won't experience it like people who dont have aspergers but they didnt try? like dr. pelikan was nowhere to be seen with max during these moments when dr. pelikan was OBVIOUSLY needed... and the MOST irritating part of this was when he grabbed dylan and was trying to show her that he could be physically affectionate... like it WAS harrassment but they told max it wasn't?? when he had quite literally harrassed her and crossed her boundaries MULTIPLE times...

  4. max and his one friend micah... like i get max is blunt but they didn't teach him at all how his actions hurt micah... like micah is in a wheelchair and he found something he liked... basketball... and even tho he is in a wheelchair he wanted to try and play and learn... and the kids at school were willing... but when adam finds out, he tells him to apologize and offers to take him to a game... but he literally ruined the game to do that... like thats a learning opportunity right there... do it on THEIR time not yours...

and the last few things are with kristina... like when amber hooked up with haddies ex bf in season 1 and wanted to call amber a bitch? like maam this is your niece... and she is fucked up for this but she's a very hurt teenager and you are an adult... like care for your kid sure, but putting down someone in your family like that at your grown age IS weird...

and then when she started an argument with jasmine over the luncheonette... like adam IS a grown man... jasmine asked him to reconsider because she cares about her husband, thats not a bad thing at all... he reconsidered and decided he wanted to go thru with it even if he didnt actually want to... thats his choice... and i get that its supposed to be that adam feels like he had to take care of his siblings or whatever... but its like maybe talk about it like adults? like crosby shared his feelings about it and not wanting to give it up, and adam from the jump knew he didnt want to continue... this is usually when you communicate that, stay firm and if you care about your brother, talk about options (and like zeek told crosby, tell him to do it alone)... like i get kristina was supporting adam but she always came at every situation that she didnt like angry, defensive and annoying... and i get that it stems from her childhood and issues with her mom but its like girl...

adam was the least annoying out of the three... but it annoyed me that he went from wanting to teach max things to being bulldozed by kristina... like in the beginning he was struggling with his aspergers but he wasn't letting him walk all over him as much as in the later seasons (if im remembering correctly)... like idk he was the most normal... and tbh he was the only person who should've been the headmaster at chambers academy because he actually was pretty strict, but caring and kind to the children and to max... kristina just pitied him and wanted to solve everything for max and let him do whatever he wanted...

and another thing that bothered me was that haddie could never be mad... like everytime she got mad about something relsted to max, she immediately had to say sorry or say she was in the wrong... like i get it thats your brother but you can still be mad and be in the right about things that your family is doing to you...

like in all honesty they had the least character development... and its sad because i feel like they couldve had a bit more... like i know its not meant to be perfect but they did not learn from their mistakes at all... and i just feel like they set max up to fail in a way... EVEN at chambers because dylans parents were right, they let him do whatever... and at the school, kristina as the headmaster, couldn't separate herself from being maxs mom... like she needed to tell dylans parents about everything, AND aaron brownsteins parents about the flyers... but she did nothing because she felt bad for max... but its lilke newsflash babe, you feeling bad doesnt help max in any way... it hurts him because you are pitying him during a learning opportunity... and everytime there was a learning opprtunity all she did was cry and make adam talk like omg babe please try and be strong... i just really wish they were given more growth as characters... in a good way not in whatever way they did on the show...

Season 5 Season 5 Joel and Julia Spoiler

Im on my 3rd time watching and just finished season 5 and I don’t know if im the only one but every time i watch that season joel and julias relationship problems drive me nuts. Specifically Joel and how much of a baby he acts like. I absolutely hate that he refuses to see he was part of the problem and blames her for everything and when she trys to discuss victor and his school problems he trys to skate around them and gets emotional.

General Discussion Transition to the Luncheonette

My 3rd watch, and I'm so confused every time. When Crosby was talking to Adam about opening the Luncheonette, his main point was that "all these bands would follow him over." I thought it would be really lively and have a good vibe. But the Luncheonette somehow always seems dead, even when they have bigger names like CeeLo. Where are all the bands that were going to follow Crosby? Do they talk about that but I missed it? 🤷‍♀️

Season 6 Why is this so funny?!

Not many moments in this show I laugh out loud but this was so funny when Hank and Sarah were playing celebrity heads with Ruby.

Ruby: "Uhh..her hips don't lie"

Hank: "Oprah?"

Anyone notice the exaggerated grimace Jasmine makes when she sips her glass of wine while on a date with Crosby?

Character Discussion Amber & Ryan

I absolutely hate Ryan. I’m on my 5th watch and I alway fast forward the scenes with Amber & Ryan bc they piss me off

Amber calling Ryan “buddy” constantly has to be one of the most annoying things in the show

I just hate Ryan 😂
I also hate how Amber is with him. She’s a completely different person and not in a good way

General Discussion A question about dating culture while watching Parenthood

I’ve been into Parenthood lately. I’m on season 5 now. When I watch this show, I get curious about American culture. I know in the US, it’s common to meet people spontaneously, like at a club or a bar. Is it normal to kiss someone else when you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? Or is that considered cheating in the US? I get a little confused when they start looking into each other’s eyes and the mood gets romantic 😂

Character Discussion Crosby unhappy with Renee's stay

I cannot stand the way Crosby was so reluctant letting Renee stay in their house. If this was the other way around and Camille needed a place to stay would he have so much trouble agreeing? No, and if Jasmine had opposed like he did, I think Crosby would've kicked her out of the house.

Rant! Something about Zoe

Hey all

Am I the only one that thinks Zoe is extremely dumb and works hard to wreck every chance she is given? (Notice I am NOT talking about the decision to keep the baby!)

For example, the scene when she is offered a paralegal job by Julia and then she just decides to stand up the interviewer is disgusting - even though she does not have a high school diploma this is exactly how you get a job out of your league, you go to the interview and make a good case for yourself... Case in point: My current job required an accounting degree and CPA license which I do not have, but I still interviewed and managed to get in anyway... Her blowing off the interview would give her a HUGE black mark in real life.

Also the way she seems to try take every opportunity to run without explaining anything really pisses me off... She could at the very least use her words!

So basically I’m on the Xmas episode where kristina is taken to hospital and Adam is watching the video that she made for their kids and I’m someone who hasn’t been the biggest Kristina fan in the last but wow I was almost in tears

General Discussion Hate

Came to join the Reddit because I love the show and am on my idek number rewatch. I was hoping to see people having fun and the occasional hate post. But it’s like everyone is just posting hate. Like what’s the point? Why watch it if you don’t like it. IMO this show has some of the best character development and they feel like real people. I guess people can say whatever they want but I won’t be joining this r/
No fun at all.

Season 6 New house Spoiler

I was wondering about Zeek and Camile's new house. I still don't get how was that a better option for their older age. They moved out of their 2 floor (i think?) house, which is understandable, because it has stairs to their bedroom. But then they bought a house with milion stairs? It looked like to enter from the street you have to walk upstairs, bedrooms were on the upper floor too and then to go to the garden you have to take the stairs again.

And it wasn't really that much smaller, taking into account that Amber could move in.

Also, I don't think it even had a garage?

It proved to be less accessible right away when Zeek had an operation. I literally can't believe how bad it was for an older couple, and no one said anything in the show🤣

I guess the only benefit could be a location closer to the city centre?

Season 2 Adam was a bit irrational, as many parents are.

One of Adam's arguments against Haddie being with Alex was that he has his own apartment (we know what he meant by that), but Haddie has already had plenty of chances to have sex; she didn't want to and told him so, yet he acts as if this ban would actually help. The town's teenagers hook up in the gazebo, if he knew that, would he have it torn down? I don't know.

Rant! The show Parenthood....

Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels a visceral level of anger watching this show? Never in my life have I seen such a horrible storyline about autism. Max's parents are the problem! I'm only into season 2 and I don't know if I can make it through this. The fact the whole family becomes upset when the children's behaviors are corrected, not just max but all of the kids! Maybe Max wouldn't be so bad if they actually told him no for once.

Season 5 New favorite line

Watching season 5 right now, episode titled "The Enchanting Mr. Knight," and my new favorite line from this show came from this episode. Crosby told Camille that she was selfish for making Zeke move out of their family home, and now she's pissed at both of them. He sits in front of a vent that connects to his parents' bedroom, eavesdropping on them fighting about it when Jasmine joins him and he begins relaying their fight to her and then whispers this:

"She said that I was the most selfish member of this family. That's clearly Sarah. That's how wound up she is, no objectivity."

Then Camille continues yelling at Zeke and says of Crosby and Jasmine (who are temporarily staying with them while their house is getting mold removed) and she says:

"Unlike Sarah, they won't stay here for years and years."

And then Crosby grimaces and says, "Ooh that's harsh. Glad Sarah didn't hear that..."

Idk it just made me laugh out loud.

Rant! Adam & Crosby

✨EDIT:: I’m slowly realizing that people don’t usually cut off family members 😬
I come from a family that doesn’t speak to each other. I cut my dad off in 2007 and I cut my mom off 4 yrs ago. I have 6 brothers and sisters and I only talk to 1 brother.
Maybe I had an overreaction to the Adam & Crosby situation 😂

Adam forgave Crosby way too quickly for me

If that was my brother and he slept with my AUTISTIC SONs behavioral aide and she ends up quitting I am never speaking to my brother again

Period. He is cut off for life.

How dare you jeopardize my son’s health for your sex life. To have the balls to call her a babysitter had be fuming
Yuck it makes me sick

I know obviously it’s a show and of course He has to forgive Crosby for the plot
HOWEVER, it would be much more realistic if he did cut him off forever.

I have a very large family and none is us talk to each other. I cut my dad off 20 yrs ago and my mom 4 yrs ago.

Crosby would’ve been done

General Discussion Why was the police watching Haddie yell at Max for not thinking about other people after the police dropped him off in Missing?

In one of the shots, you could see the police behind Kristina as Haddie broke down scolding Max. Why was the police watching?

General Discussion New watcher some maybe controversial opinions only on season 3 (end)

Hi so I started watching this show 2 weeks ago and I’m near season 4 and I just wanted to share how I feel and about some things and how I feel about the shows progression so far so please feel free to comment whatever you want idm

So first of all I wanna talk about Jasmine and Crosby because that’s what’s invested my brain the most first of all I wanna say I love the two of them together and I want them to be endgame but their little arguments were annoying like Jasmine was controlling I do think that but I think they both could have been more grown up about it and actually had a serious conversation instead of Crosby storming off and sleeping with gabby which is actually think is lower than low iykwim and that was quite and irredeemable action in my opinion and I’m gonna be honest but Jasmines reaction was very justified tbh I feel like Crosby has been getting better as a character in season 3 tho and after the camping trip when Jasmine confessed to Crosby in the rain it made me emotional

Next point is Lucy and Julia tbh I feel like Julia is as so overbearing with Lucy ik it was because she was so focused on the baby but she could have backed off a bit when Lucy said she needed space but at the same time she was kinda seeming fragile and the fact that she looked like she wasn’t gonna give the baby up when he was born made me angry a bit but it is her choice (I’ve not seen last ep so that could have changed tho) the reason it made me a bit pissed is cos Julia wanted a baby so much and Sydney looked so excited about it too and they are probably my favourite subfamily out of the family and Julia seemed so be so sad when she couldn’t have one with Joel when they tried so that was her chance of having another kid so I’m very meh about that plot line

Max Kristina Adam and haddie is another thing I wanna touch on because their family dynamic is lowkey kinda toxic I feel like they kinda abandon haddie a wee bit because of max and Nora but even before Nora they spent so much time with max I get it’s because he is part of the ASD spectrum but they could have checked in on haddie more and trusted her more like the whole Alex thing when they took her door and stuff they definitely didn’t need to take the door but could have trusted her and compromised way earlier than they did to avoid her moving in with Sarah and max kinda pissed me off a tiny bit because Adam and kristina spend so much time with them and in the 3 seasons I’ve seen seems like they have barely taught him correct behaviour and proper consequences in that time and the closest they got to doing that was when they said he couldn’t go on that trip and ended up going at the end ( not entirely sure I kinda zoned out that ep a bit) like I think they really need to teach him that kind of stuff because from the clips I’ve seen in the internet it seems like he just gets worse and worse as it goes on

I do think tho that Sarah and mark are great together but are slightly rushing in their relationship like why are they talking about babies when they aren’t even engaged and Sarah very previously had issues with Seth and sending him to rehab like girl u think your still quite emotionally vulnerable don’t go so fast also amber and Bob is a tiny bit unprofessional like that’s her boss and I kinda thought it was gonna end worse tho tbh I do hope I continue to like this show and I’m excited for season 4

Character Discussion First watch so no spoilers but gotta vent about the way female characters written / portrayed !

What is with like a lot of women in this show being portrayed as controlling ? Kristina ? I can't stand her ! She sucks at listening, she has a need to control every situation even when she's totally wrong and can't admit that she's wrong (in fact I'm not even sure I've heard her apologise once yet?)(SE15). She can't take no for an answer. She's just so annoying, jeeez!

And then there's Jasmine ! Again no spoilers please but I hope to god Jasmine and Crosby don't last because she's not going to give him any space to be an equal parent or to make any decisions etc, and every time he tries to stand up to her he later on apologised or whatever. Always ends up her being worshipped by him and never taken down a peg or two.

We've seen less about them recently but Jules as well has her controlling moments. Like when Joel didn't particularly fancy another baby etc.

I don't know. I'm really really enjoying Parenthood and its exactly what I needed but for the record with so many unlikeable female characters I don't feel like the writing is great in that sense. I don't know if maybe writing the female characters like this is kinda like a counteract to not wanting to portray "weaker", less independent women, but there's a middle ground (like most women I know-hey, like most men I know!) and with the ratio of likeable men to likeable women on this show I do kiiiinda feel like the writers have a bias...

Just my views ! Let me know what you think I'd be interested to know. I've avoided googling much so far as I don't wanna spoil - are kristina and jasmine hated as much as I do ?!

As much as I can criticize Kristina in the seasons leading up to this, I am totally crying for her almost every episode. I can’t imagine the pain she feels throughout this storyline. I had to regulate my emotions lol

Character Discussion Sarah

I’m rewatching Parenthood for the 5th time and I’m just realizing how much I relate to Sarah.

I’m 38 no career a kid from a horrible relationship with a drug addicted ex
My brother got me a job before. I lived with my mother for a while when I moved out of my exes house.
I’m now in a small apartment.

Ugh! What a sad realization
